I know some other people here like rap. I like rap. I don't know a whole lot about it (including the difference between "rap" and "hip hop") but I know some songs, and I like how it sounds. So I figured we could make a thread for Christians in the rap scene, of which I know... almost none. So I figured I'd start off the thread with something I randomly found on Bandcamp today. Dunno how well-known or underground this guy is. MIST - Minister in Spirit & Truth

Cool! I love Christian Hip-Hop. To me, Rap is an element of Hip-Hop. Such as turntables, breakdancing, emceeing, and graffiti art. There is not a lot of going on the Mainstream. One of my favorite rappers, The Prophet X released a Metalcore album, and it has rapping. Nice! You guys should check his music out. There are two Hip-Hop shows in early 2018 I want to go. KRS-One, and NF. It will be my first time seeing them. It has been awhile since I gone to a Hip-Hop concert. Do you guys go to Hip-Hop concerts? What is your favorite Hip-Hop album of 2017? Do you think Hip-Hop and Rock or Metal should mix? I seen a lot of debates on this subject. Feel free to share your thoughts. Thank you for reading this. I will get back on this thread. Goodnight.

I like some artists. Fedel, Bizzle, Monty G. I saw T-Bone once but I really didn't like it. Never heard a studio recording of his though.

Never heard of Mist, definitely sounds pretty good. Hip-hop is the first type of music I choose for myself. I remember my mom getting me my first CD for Christmas (The Eminem show) good times. But I still love hip-hop, haven´t really listened to a lot of christian artists but I really like Gifted Da Flamethrowa and from secular ones Krino, Jantar, Vargek Beatanga, Kool savas, Lowkey & Immortal technique.. basically if the beat is good and lyrics smart (no bling-bling, booty shaking) I´m in Edit: also to answer Avjr I´ve never been to a hip-hop show, but I´m all for mixing and experimenting with rap and music in general. There are some killer projects out there that mixed rap&hip-hop with rock and metal

I'm so excited to contribute to this thread once I can make a bit more time (after December 18, really). I'm pretty sure The Eminem Show was my first rap album as well Borndead . Sevin is my favorite rapper, hands down. I'll recommend specific songs later. For now, . This song inspires me to pursue my purpose in life. Edit: ugh, it's hard to not recommend more Sevin. " Yankin'" is a new one and a good one; " Crusafix" is dope (DOPE chorus); aaand " Broken Mirror," which has some wise lyrics in it (e.g., "He don't stop being the Rock because we stepped off.")

Love hip-hop. Favorite artists right now are: Shai Linne, Propaganda and Foreknown. NF is ok, strikes me as a Christian Eminem. Used to love 116 but saddened by the drift from outright biblical lyrics.
I'll have to find time to check out Sevin.
Great thread, NI.

My favorite Hip-Hop albums are Perception by NF, Reubonic by John Reuben, The World is MIND by KRS-One, and Nothing is Quick in the Desert by Public Enemy. Speaking of PE, I dig Chuck D's rapping in Prophets of Rage. This is DEFINITELY the year that Hip-Hop returns! I haven't listen to any new Hip-Hop music in 2016. The only song I listened to it was Digging For Windows by Zack de la Rocha. It's a decent song, but I prefer his fierce raps in Rage Against the Machine. RATM are one my favorite Rap Rock bands along with Zebrahead, P.O.D., Molotov, The Chimpz, Comprados, Manafest, XL and Death Before Dishonor, POR, and Every Day Life. I guess this is all I have to say. Goodnight. [zzz]

I saw him and a bunch of cats live. Bizzle is a wise dude. Do you guys go to Hip-Hop concerts I've been to one secular one and one for Sevin, Bizzle, Thi'sl, Eshon Burgundy, and Datin. Both were awesome. There was multiple sermon's worth of wisdom shared at the Christian one ... those men really have heart for ministry and preaching the gospel. He's awesome. His 'Minivan' song makes me laugh . I wish he made more music. Bartimaeus did you check out the new Beautiful Eulogy? I know you like them, right? Beautiful Eulogy is the Christian hiphop artist I show people who don't typically listen to rap. I've been enjoying this song by them a lot recently (...the second verse is WISE):

check out the new Beautiful Eulogy? Yeah, buddy. It is incredible. If you like their work, you should absolutely check out Streetlights. It's the guys from Beautiful Eulogy, among others, speaking the Bible over some sweet beats. Just NT right now, but really good.

That's the extent of my Christian Hip-Hop knowledge.
Want to take off the Christian qualifier, I listen to a lot of ICP.

Oh, yeah! I know three songs by DC Talk!
I really couldn't do that. I mean, I definitely qualify as one when I think about, but face paint is out of the question, whether it's for Metal or ICP or anything. I hate makeup or anything like it being on my skin, especially my face. I especially don't like other people applying changes to my appearance. I've never let anyone braid my hair, not even my mom.

What 3 DCT songs you know? The only song I like from them is Jesus Freak. A very grungy rap rock combo! It's cool that you don't like makeup. Every women is different. 🙂

Jesus Freak, Luv Is A Verb, and Time Is.
It's not that I don't like it (I don't, but...) It's more that it freaks me out.

Oh. HAHAHA I didn't even realize there were posts above yours, where you and avjr were talking. So the context of that comment was totally lost on me. I Oh my gosh I'm going to bed now. I need to stop being on internet forums late at night, because then things like this happen.

Sevin, the actual GOAT of Christian rap, is prolific and makes great stuff. The track by him I was jamming to today was Go Inn (off his newest work, 2017). The song that God used to keep me alive 2016-2017 was Suicideal Tendenciez (off his oldest work, ~2000).

Everything I've heard on Humble Beast has been amazing, LOVE Sho Baraka and Prop! Streetlights is a really great app too, especially for kids who may never pick up a bible. They do a killer job with the readings and background music/beats. Lecrae is pretty mainstream, but generally good stuff nonetheless.

I listened to this song hundreds of times as a coping mechanism (as well as simple enjoyment) in 2016. It's honest about doubts and lack of joy.
