Empty Life - The Cold Universe. Doesn't really fit into "post-black" or "DSBM", it's kind of a mix of both. I like it, though. Imo the vocals are a bit abrasive for what the style calls for, but enjoyable (in a depressive black metal sense) nonetheless. Do you know if the artist ascribes to any particular religion/ideology/etc?

Do you know if the artist ascribes to any particular religion/ideology/etc? Nope. I can't find the lyrics anywhere, and the artist is (apparently) not in any other bands with more obvious lyrical themes.

Depressive black-noise if anyone would be interested in that. Vibrant LifeIf I ever do anything else with this project, it'll probably be in a more "normal" DSBM style, but for now, I just have this one song.

It was a bro from Unblack Amino that was sharing videos of Pure's music on TBL Discord. That how I found out about them. Good stuff.

DSBM is my second least favorite (next to the rightfully hated NSBM). With that said here are some bands that I love that not many know and some you guys probably already do: - Ghostbath - Moloch - Trist - Deep Pression - Lifelover - Coldworld - Gris - Sombre Forets - The Dying Light - Airs - Hanging Garden - Happy Days - An Autumn For Crippled Children - Harakiri For The Sky - Lantlos - Xasthur (Obviously! Check out Nocturnal Poisoning. It’s Malefic’s folk project) - Al-Kamar - Old Silver Key - Psychonaut 4 - Forgotten Tomb - Nocturnal Depression - Hypothermia - Amesoeurs - Les Discrets - Abyssic Hate - Crippled Black Phoenix - Heretoir - Woods Of Desolation - Misfortune
Now, people are probably wondering...where’s Shining? Like THE DSBM to many people. Well, I hate that band. Any band where the singer encourages people to take their lives and openly promotes it while bragging about the fact that people have told him before that their friend/family member took their lives to a Shining album isn’t a band I want to support. I was never a fan of their music anyways except for the EP they put out that was all cover songs, that album (Lots Of Girls Gonna Get Hurt) is good, other than that I’m not a fan.

One of my favorite bands, they call their style "Dark metal" but I still see them very close to dsbm, also their guitarist made the Silencer cover art and I´m very much influenced by Landfermann´s vocals <3 Bethlehem a few more

I saw someone post about NONE earlier--their album Life Has Gone On Long Enough helped me get through a bad depressive spell, and I still have Damp Chill of Life sitting in my library waiting to be listened to. To what extent do DSBM artists glorify suicide/depression as opposed to just talking about it? I know Shining openly promoted suicide, but as far as I can tell he's the exception rather than the rule.

To what extent do DSBM artists glorify suicide/depression Depends from artist to artist, the lyrics should give it away

To what extent do DSBM artists glorify suicide/depression as opposed to just talking about it? I know Shining openly promoted suicide, but as far as I can tell he's the exception rather than the rule. Sorry for the year long delay, but here's my answer. I do think some artists do glorify suicide and self harm, making a spectacle of it. Whereas, a good amount use dsbm as their own personal catharsis. A perfect example of the latter is Deha, the musician behind Ter Ziele, Vaer, Coma, and others. The best way to find to ascertain if a dsbm glorifies suicide or not is by going through their social media. If they're always saying dumb stuff or trying to look edgy, maybe stay away. But then Deha actually did a full on interview about his own mental health and it really impacted me. He's working on himself and his music is a part of how he does it, and it shows both in the music and in his social media presence. For me, DSBM has been a very special genre, very close to my heart for years now. It held me together in really difficult times due to its relatable and cathartic nature. But in the wrong context, it can be a very harmful genre. I'm at a point where confronting suicide, self-harm, and suicide is not triggering to me. I can talk about it to others and be open about my own experiences and then what my relationship with death looks like. I've confronted my own mortality multiple times and I go back to that every once in a blue moon to make sure I feel the same way. Other people can be more sensitive to these themes so they definitely do need a caution warning. More than anything, even if it's not glorifying suicide, just make sure your heart is in the right place to get something beneficial from this genre. Hopefully that won't be very often, but when it happens and you know you're receptive but won't be triggered then go ahead! There are some great bands in this style and there's a lot I like about this scene, so hopefully NONE is just the beginning for you

Strangely (ironically?), I don't know that I'd be alive today without DSBM... It kept me going in a VERY dark pre-Christian time of my life. Since then, I haven't come back to it much, although I do enjoy the bleak and hopeless atmosphere from time to time. I am no longer hopeless, but like you, I do re-examine my own mortality now and then. Does anyone else just get tired of this existence?

Does anyone else just get tired of this existence? Yes. Since before I was born again. The only thing that's kept me going for the past decade or so has been my work for the divine. While my view of these tasks and obligations has obviously changed a lot with my theology, and life has a broader purpose now with the coherent teachings of Christianity, my life ultimately boils down to divine work.

Forest of the Renounced Way to Depression, The Cold of LonelinessI wish there were a little more "metal" here, but still VERY solid. There's a lot of black metal with a "wistful" attitude and atmosphere, but very little that captures it so beautifully!

Suicide in Rainy Woods - ThrenodyDespite the word "suicide" in the project name, I would describe this more as a "beautiful/poetic" depiction of depression, rather than a really desperate/suicidal one.
