I was "meh" about the "All Shall Fall" type Immortal sound but....
Great googly moogly.... this ↑ statement is true. A bit on the repetitive side, but my itch is sufficiently scratched and I will absolutely be getting this.

A bit on the repetitive side That´s exactly what I´ve thought, the energy reminds me a lot of "Battles in the North" and "Blizzard Beasts". Anyway, I hope there´ll be a lot of melody and epicness now that Demonaz is taking care of stuff ^_^

I’m possibly more excited after hearing the first song than I was when it was first announced. My only real question is where it lands on my year end top 5 list, and if it outranks the new At the Gates.

I got to 2:18.
I see my musical tastes still vary as much from the mainstream secular scene as they did a few years ago. It's not "bad" (in a musical or ideological sense!), but I can't get into it. When the drums go FULL-ON blast close to the two-minute mark, that's pretty cool, but otherwise it just feels like the same thing being played for several minutes with nothing to keep my attention.
Edit: Also, I always hoped Immortal would include a little atmosphere in their music. Let their epic, wintery tales speak for themselves a bit. But it seems they're still content to just do standard black metal fare.

it just feels like the same thing being played for several minutes with nothing to keep my attention. Agreed. Its very repetitive. I always hoped Immortal would include a little atmosphere in their music The last 2 Immortal albums were TOO atmospheric for my tastes, compared to their other releases, and its only this release of them going "back to black" that have piqued my interest....

I gotcha bro. Sorry, I meant atmospheric "for Immortal". XD
Synth on an Immortal release would be downright heresy. LOL

I'm liking the new one. Evidently Demonaz has gotten past his injuries and is back in old form. You can easily hear that when compared with his solo album.
I like "All Shall Fall." That's one I keep coming back to as some of it holds a sort of special meaning for me. Was listening to it a lot when it came out and certain things were going on in my life at that time. So I will always associate the two and it's nostalgic in a way for me that goes past mere respect for the old lineup.
It's also one of my go-to albums on my mp3 player when I do grocery shopping if you can believe.
But I was definitely looking forward to the new Immortal and for me, it does not disappoint.
