Hi!
When I first "tried" to make this thread, I scrapped it because "my logic" just seemed to be rebuttal for a preemptive, perhaps imaginary debunking.... I decided to take a different approach and lead with what scripture states.
God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
The heavens and earth were COMPLETED before the 7th day of "rest". Genesis 2:1-2
Angels were created BEFORE the earth was created. (as they "shouted for joy" when the earth was formed) Job 38:4-7
There are "countless thousands" of angels. Hebrews 12:22
Angels have the ability to be "destructive" on earth. Psalms 78:49
Angels are "spirits". Hebrews 1:14
Spirits do NOT have bodies and are not tangible. Luke 24:39
(side note - interesting that the NLT version uses the word "ghost" instead of spirit)
People can see angels when God "opens their eyes". Numbers 22:31
(side note - the angel is wielding a sword, a weapon)
Angels see us, without us realizing it. Hebrews 13:1-2
Angels can be seen and can communicate with people. John 20:11-13, Luke 2:9-10
Angels can sin. 2 Peter 2:4
Angels have names and a hierarchy. Jude 1:8-10, Luke 1:19
Angels are not omnipresent. (if they help, they have to "come" to help) Daniel 10:13.
Angels are from the heavens, but can traverse to earth. Job 1:6-7.
Angels have homes. Jude 1:6
(side note - NIV version uses the term "proper dwelling".)
Angels are "stronger" and "more powerful" than people. 2 Peter 2:11
The fact that angels can sin and rejoice, implies they have some ability to choose and discern - therefore intelligence. The fact that they can be destructive on earth and aren't omnipresent (can travel, aren't everywhere), implies choice and being "physically" capable by action and location. The fact there is a hierarchy and they have "dwelling places" implies social construct, habitat and culture. The fact that people are afraid when they see angels (multiple references) implies, when they can be seen, they LOOK different.
The term "extraterrestrial" as an adjective, (ie: "extraterrestrial life") is defined as:
originating, existing, or occurring outside the earth or its atmosphere - Webster.com
outside, or originating outside, the limits of the earth. - dictionary.com
I don't think it could be disputed that "alien" is an accurate synonym for the word "extraterrestrial".
Bottom line, angels are intelligent life, from the heavens (not native to earth), therefore are "extraterrestrial".
Angels are aliens in that respect.
The questions I have as further food-for-thought... What about technology?
Angel technology is a verificationist concept. (impossible to prove - we cannot know)
The ancient world in which the Bible was written, there was no concept of technology. No concept means, no definition.
Going back to the verse with the angel wielding a sword - do you guys think the angel acquired it from earth? Or was it perhaps crafted "in the heavens"?
If it was an earthly sword - wouldn't Balaam in Numbers 22 have seen a sword floating around before he saw the angel?
If the sword was crafted in heaven by an intelligent powerful being, with a residence and a society, would "smithing" basic melee weapons be the extent?
My closing remarks - there's a lot of information (evidence) out there regarding aliens, UFOs, etc. etc. etc.
There are God fearing people out there that have had very strange and unexplained encounters/sightings with "something" that seems from another world.
I'm not qualified to separate the wheat from the chaff, but I think its safe to say - it IS biblical to think "aliens" exist, as it is written.
