If you guys didn't see the discussion at the end of the vol 2 thread - DC is unable to release Vol 3 through Fallen Oak Recordings (anything through that label for a while actually, due to his new Vials of Wrath contract) and Duane from Vision of God Records offered to release it.
Here is a question for EVERYONE that would contribute to this compilation.
A 2-panel insert would basically be the front cover, the insert and tray card. The pro for this is, Duane could produce and release it in a more timely manner. The con is, no room for posting track lyrics. Having enough panels to include the lyrics would put it on par with the "booklet quality" of the prior 2 comps but.... The con is, it may take some time for financing and production. (if I had to venture a guess, the delay could be "months")
This isn't my release, so its not my call... but I would like to see everyone who will contribute, share their vote/opinion on what they want the complication to have. In a more succinct question form:
Which would you choose? - The basics - 2 panel insert, no lyrics, could be released much sooner - The works - multi panel insert, contains lyrics, could cause the release date to be delayed
Personally? My vote would be "the basics". It would be easier for VoG to come up with the financing, be out faster, and lyrics could be sent to anyone who asks for them.
Thoughts?

My thoughts are to investigate the actual cost difference between the two, and not be in a rush to just get something out there. A 6 month wait from “today” doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’ve offered to help defray some of DC’s expenditure in the past (though he didn’t take me up on it), and that’s potentially something I might be willing to offer again, depending on costs and timeframe.

I like having lyrics included with releases, but I'm not the one releasing the compilation, so it's not my money.
I personally say, leave it up to Duane. Let him consider it, pray about it and see what falls into his lap. If he feels comfortable doing the full layout, cool. If he is given hesitation of some sort, I'm certainly willing to go along with that both for the sake of God's will, and for Duane's finances.

I'm wondering if we need to do a contribution headcount before we figure out layout for a next comp?
I'm only aware of Orationem, Stormsinger, Bozkath and Sentinel Mysterium so far....

I'm wondering if we need to do a contribution headcount before we figure out layout for a next comp? I'm only aware of Orationem, Stormsinger, Bozkath and Sentinel Mysterium so far.... Probably a good idea. Also, like I said, *I* am in no rush.......mostly because I’ve got 4/5 half worked up ideas, but nothing anywhere concrete or “ready to go”, nor have I made any overtures to any of my potential co-conspirators. I’d also personally like to keep the idea of having the ability to print the lyrics open as long as possible, simply because I’ve been sitting on an unfinished piece with lyrics R. Michael Cook wrote the majority of for nearly a year and a half. It was going to be last year’s contribution, but between a pair of HD crashes and my alcohol issue, it never panned out.

I'm in no rush either, my friend. Like NI said, I was thinking more about Duane's pocketbook than I was having this comp in my hands in the next few months. Plus, I've got his 2 panel releases of all 6 Orationem albums and I've found the quality to be more than satisfactory.
Sorry to say, I'm not very driven to hunt down forum musicians and other associates just to make a comp happen. I'm more inclined to just wait and see who else replies to this thread with an interest to contribute...

Maybe we do two tracks each this time or something. Plenty of options to figure it out.

Maybe we do two tracks each this time or something. Plenty of options to figure it out. I'm more than ok with abandoning the "compilation" idea and making it a "split" between a handful of forum projects. (instead of 5 minutes between 15 projects for 75 minutes of music, 15 minutes between 5 projects for 75 minutes of music) ...but since VoG was cool with a comp, I'd have to check if they were cool with a split - if it came down to that. The actual "forum anniversary" (which prompted the compilations to begin with) is January 24th. (wow, this forum will be 4 years old in 22 days) Unless someone vehemently disagrees, I'd like to wait until the end of the month to see who else wants to contribute until that date - before "locking in" less contributors but more music between them.

Waiting works for me. Perhaps I can finish another track or two for if it ends up more like a split, or I could even work on a revised version of my most recent demo track.

15 minutes works for me but I prefer the idea of keeping a comp format.

I'm honored to be on the comp, thank you for this opportunity.
As far as the voting goes, I don't mind holding off on the release (that is if the financing isn't going to be outrageous) most people buy up these compilations rather quick. At least from what I've witnessed. People really like them, I think it's up to us to deliver the best product possible. I believe having a delay may prove a positive turnout in the long run. Plus it will give everyone plenty of time to advertise this compilation and potentially reach more people with our music.

I'm gonna need to skip out this comp, unfortunately. Unbeknownst to me, my song title from the last comp is quite a defining word for where I am with my music making.

If there aren't enough entries, I can always contribute more than one song. I have a couple projects I haven't really done anything with yet that I'd like to start on.

I currently have my original track and approximately three minutes of a track I began writing this morning, which is probably halfway done. So, I will tentatively have approximately three to nine minutes of material to contribute.

Any semi-concrete info as far as a timeline yet? For me, the farther out the submit deadline looks to be, the better.........

Any semi-concrete info as far as a timeline yet? Not yet - but I'm thinking about locking in the contributors on the exact anniversary date of this forum. (January 24th) Once I figure out how many contributors (looks like 8 so far) then we can calculate # of tracks and running times. I'm just guessing, but a month or two as a time frame for submissions sounds like plenty.... at least for me. Does anyone have an interest in falling on the artwork/layout sword? Obviously we'll have to figure out the panels and stuff later, and while I can help contribute, I'm also wondering if anyone else would be willing to chip in...
