I like the idea of volume four.

I was, at one point recently, beginning the process of attempting to contact folks that participated in the first two HotBL releases about getting those two things on Spotify.......but I have had some crazy stupid SERIOUS life stuff crop up and simply don’t have the time or willpower to dedicate to the process......stuff MIGHT clear up for me in the near future.....but it could just as easily tip the other way. If anyone reading this thread was a participant and has a “yay” or “nay” to the concept, please feel free to say so.....

definitely a nay. the original intent of the comps--if I am right--was to keep it underground, so having it on spotify undermines that. Also I would just prefer not having my stuff on spotify.

I’ll “hard stop” on the process, if for no other reason than you just offered me an “easy out” on all of it while my home life is a bit of a wreck. But when all my stupid “life” BS has blown thru? I’ve got a LOT of questions re: the concept of “market exclusivity” vs the collective Christian call to “bear witness” and “minister”. I can “get it” when we’re talking about a hundred or so physical copies, and yeah, I honestly think that’s kinda cool, nevermind that none of us will ever see so much as a dime for our efforts..... But deliberately limiting “our” capacity to “reach” people? I’m NOT “OK” with that. Maybe I’m “projecting” because the last couple of weeks in my personal life have brought a RAZOR SHARP focus on EXACTLY how shiort I’ve fallen...... But WE HAVE A CALL,,...and I just DON’T see how the concept of “exclusivity” fits into it,...

the original intent of the comps--if I am right--was to keep it underground Uh, no We never discussed specifically keeping the comps "underground" at all. The reason we had limited pressings was because we knew there would only be so much interest in compilation albums, especially featuring mostly lesser-known bands. Not because we specifically "created" limited interest. I would be 100% fine having my contributions put on Spotify if I could be guaranteed royalties from it.

I understand your point of view. I just don't view those former projects as any form of ministry or bearing witness. As far as falling short, I view these projects as falling short. I decided to release music without taking time to perfect the songs and did just half-assed work. I don't want my half-assed music to take on the appearance or context of bearing witness if that makes sense. So if you choose to put it on spotify, I would just ask you to not use my songs.

I don't have anything against it being promoted or put on spotify, I don't even need the royalties(just donate them to VOG records). I make music to spread the Word and to express myself in a way I enjoy. So, for what I care give it a go.
But it might be a hard task to logistically get the ok from everybody.

We never discussed specifically keeping the comps "underground" at all. If underground is meaning "no digital distribution", it was discussed for Vol3. As for Vol 1 or 2, I don't recall it even getting brought up to DC. (which is who it would have needed to be brought up to)

I’ve already been in contact with DC, he was the first person I broached the subject with, since we all had to sign release contracts with him. He’s fine with it, and sent me several email contacts. I haven’t emailed anyone yet because I figured it might be better to put feelers out here first.
At this point, the primary obstacle is the logistical end of things. From the investigating I’ve done, it seems that comp albums can get “weird” to get on Spotify......and if we’ve got folks not interested, I’m not gonna expend any more brainpower trying to untangle that stuff. Too much “other stuff” in life right now.......
