Seeing as I technically worked on material for all three of my projects today, I figured it would be better to follow the examples of other members and make a thread of my own so as to not clog the general updates thread, and have something more permanent than the shoutbox or Discord channel.
Fair warning: There are currently no definitive release dates.
Aethereal Shrine: I am working on a couple of tracks to include alongside an improved version of the demo track. I have not yet decided whether or not to include vocals, but expect atmospheric black/doom with a healthy dose of funeral doom and occasional drone. All of the tracks are shaping up to be over ten minutes long.
Álfablót: I am working on a new track for my first project, and plan to release a three-track EP consisting of improved versions of two tracks from the demo and the aforementioned new track, which is in the expected style for Álfablót.
Sentinel Mysterium: In addition to the track for the compilation, I have been working on some other tracks for the project. Some are based on unreleased recording from before the actual formation of Sentinel Mysterium, thus have some melodic death metal influence within the symphonic-esque black metal. The doom influence from Adélon Abyss will also be present.

I feel like I may upload a rough version of a new Aethereal Shrine track this weekend.

In addition to the above, here is an updated version of the 2017 demo track. It is not yet finalized, but I wanted to share it. I may add keys and synths to select passages, and possibly vocals. Production is the most likely change. soundcloud.com/kyle-kristian/aethereal-shrine-forgotten

That second track? It is going to be at least fifteen minutes long. Granted, I am cheating a little bit with a four-minute ambient drone intro.

Suppose all of Sentinel Mysterium’s released demos up to this point were released together in a physical format (most likely CD), do you guys think there would be a market for that?

Aethereal Shrine has officially passed thirty minute of material for the upcoming album, and I have not even finished the second track.

Out of curiosity, what would you guys consider your favorite Sentinel Mysterium track(s)?

My favorite music you release, in general, tends to be the music where the keyboards are more prominent in the mix and overall have more "breathing room". So I would probably say "Adélon Abyss".

If anyone uses the platform Álfablót and Sentinel Mysterium now have Instagram accounts at @alfablotband and @sentinelmysterium, respectively.

Is anyone here interested in or know anybody who would be interested in organizing a split with any of my projects? Secular or Christian are both fine, as my projects are kind of in the area between.

I would be interested! I would prefer a Christian project -- and, as I recall, you consider Sentinel Mysterium and Kyle Kristian to be Christian, right? But I would need to record more music first.

I would say they are Christian in that I am a Christian and that Sentinel Mysterium has close links to the Christian scene, but the concepts behind the music are not necessarily directly inspired by Christianity.
I would also need to write more. When we both have something, we should discuss the idea in more detail.

Would you guys consider a two-track release with a total running time of over thirty minutes to be an album or EP?

If it only has 2 tracks, I would probably consider 30 minutes to still be an "EP" I would probably consider a two-track "album" to be 40+ minutes Of course, if you want to make the album longer, you could always just go the kvlt route, hold a keyboard note for 10 minutes and call it an extra song, haha! If anyone asks, just say something like "THE TRACK LENGTH 10:01 IS A PALINDROME WHICH REFLECTS THE FINITE WAYS OF MANKIND, THE SINGLE KEYBOARD NOTE F# REPRESENTS A CONTROVERSIAL, ANCIENT GREEK INTERPRETATION OF THE MYSTERIOVS AND OBSCVRE TEN LARGE CHUNKS OF CHEESE REFERENCED IN 1 SAMUEL 17:18. I currently have thirty minutes of material, but the shorter track is still in the process of composition, currently sitting at a total length of fourteen minutes, ten of which are loosely-structured riffs and four being more ambient drone-ish. It is certainly possible it will end up around twenty minutes as I implement more structure and decide which sections I want to draw out and repeat.
I was originally planning to include a third track, a revisited version of an unreleased demo track, but it does not seem to fit as well with the other two tracks as well as I had hoped, so I will hold onto it and continue to work on it to release on a special occasion, such as a split on compilation.

If it only has 2 tracks, I would probably consider 30 minutes to still be an "EP" I think nowadays it has become quite complicated to categorize a single, EP or album. Its definitely a subjective range, not a set time or track number. Back in the old days, an album was what could fit on a record. (vinyls were either 15 minutes each side, or 22 minutes each side) That went out the window when CDs came around. ....then was brought back in the window and thrown out even further when it came to the digital release format. Spotify will consider a release an EP if its 4-6 tracks and 30 minutes or less. iTunes will consider a release an EP if its ↑ that, OR, 1 to 3 tracks, 30 minutes or less, IF one or more of the tracks is 10 or more minutes running time. Ironically, 3 tracks, 30 minutes or less, with no tracks 10 minutes or more is a "Single" according to iTunes. Heh. 3 track single. Source

Greetings, all. I apologize for my recent lack of activity. I had trouble logging in, and am in the process of moving off the mainland. Music is still being created, but most of my recent writing has been focused on a non-metal project which is not likely to see a public release.
All three metal projects are still active, just coming along slowly. Aethereal Shrine is still the most likely to have the soonest release, possibly, but unlikely before the end of the year. It is looking like it will be two tracks with a running time of approximately thirty-five minutes.

Thank you! I wrote, recorded, and mixed everything beginning Wednesday evening, so it was a rather quick process. I experimented with adding more gain to the bass drum for a punchier, more audible hit without drowning other drowning out other instruments from the mix or disrupting the atmosphere. Any further feedback is greatly appreciated.

What do you guys think about re-purposing a track or riff or what have you from the demo of one of my projects for another of my projects?

What do you guys think about re-purposing a track or riff or what have you from the demo of one of my projects for another of my projects? I plan to reuse a few riffs/melodies in the future for a few of my songs. Now, re-releasing an entire song from one project, on a release for another project, I've heard of people doing it. Personally I find it kind of strange, but it's not really hurting anything.

Any further feedback is greatly appreciated. Vocals please! What do you guys think about re-purposing a track or riff or what have you from the demo of one of my projects for another of my projects? I think this is actually pretty cool. I remember a newer Cryptopsy song called "Leech" where they... heh... "leeched" a riff from a track off their None So Vile album. ie: "why does this sound familiar?" "I think they played this on a prior album." *finds the riff on the prior album* "Ah ha! That's so cool!"

I ask this because I am considering re-working the Uncertain Destiny track from Sentinel Mysterium’s second demo into a track for Álfablót. I would change certain things, but the core of the track will remain mostly the same.

Obviously I have my musical influences, but what bands, Christian or secular, would you all describe as musically similar to Sentinel Mysterium? Others and I have listed a few on the Metal Archives, but I am curious what you all would recommend.

I do see some similarities between Sentinel Mysterium and Orationem, if only for the atypical chording/fret-work the guitars are doing. A secular recommendation, again, this wouldn't be like an SM clone, but I get a similar "melody feeling" between what you do and (some of) what they do. Imperium Dekadenz

Honestly, the most similar band I have heard is Dawn. The structure of the songs and melodies seem fairly similar.
While we are at it, aside from merely black metal, what genre would you all assign to Sentinel Mysterium? If I wanted to get really specific, I would say something like “atmospheric melodic black metal with symphonic and death-doom influences.”

Post by nocturnaliridescence on Dec 28, 2019 19:23:59 GMT -6
I would call it... Atmospheric / Melodic Black / Doom. I might actually change the genre tags on Unblack Archives. Right now I only have "Atmospheric / Black Metal". Technically that's not wrong but I like to be more thorough with genre tags than say, Metal Archives are. (I actually started doing this at the suggestion of thevociferator !)

Are the doom elements really so prevalent? I suppose in two or three tracks. Sentinel Mysterium and Aethereal Shrine could probably both be classified under atmospheric black/doom, but different corners of the genre. More “Dawn-meets-Daylight Dies” for the former and “Akhlys-meets-Evoken” for the latter.
