Some of you guys seem to have much more experience with secular black metal than I do. I've decided to create this as a sort of list thread, for the purpose of making a list of the best secular black metal bands that do not contain anti-Christian lyrics (keep in mind that Satanism, Paganism, and Occultism all count as anti-Christianity).
The only bands that I've found that I enjoy are the following:
Hoth Gaoth Anair Old Graves

Carach Angren. Definitely. ...and I'll present the evidence why. This is one of my favorite bands by the way - very technical, very symphonic with strings/keys/guitars often doing completely different riffs simultaneously (unlike so many bands) and absolutely the EASIEST band to understand what they're saying. I'm not kidding, every word without the lyrics - speaking better English than most natives. (They're from The Netherlands) For one, Shamgar from Sletchvalk actually told me about the band - recommended it to me as something I'd like. Two, their lyrics are dark - they talk about murder, death, suicide, hauntings, hauntings and more hauntings... but its not suggesting it to the listener. They talk about it like its happened, its happening. (and I'm all about a good ghost story) They swear as much as Jim Gaffigan. (If you've seen any of his brilliant comedy standups, you'll realize that it happens once or twice per "album".) They're storytellers. Their 2012 album "Where the Corpses Sing Forever" is based on World War 2. Stories of soldiers going mad. Stories of ghosts haunting the battlefields. "Death Came Through A Phantom Ship" is of course a tale of a captain going mad at sea. Ghosts at sea.... I only recall one mention of Christianity in 3 of their full length albums... and that's in the interlude (I call it that because its like 2 minutes long and sounds like really cool guitar-absent black metal opera, which is an argument between the captain and his crew. The crew of course saying "Christ has forbidden us to sail on easter Sunday.", calling the captain on his blasphemy and they won't obey him to sail. The captain, who's gone mad in the story... well here's that interlude and the following track. Definitely worth your time to find out what happens. LOL They look really cool too. Awesome corpsepaint. Awesome album arts. My favorite tracks? Hard to choose a favorite because again, this is one band that can pull of me liking ALL their songs.

So I'm confused, do they stab the captain, or does the captain stab the crew? XD
Anyway, great-sounding band. I'll probably be listening to these guys.

The captain is the black metal voice. He stabs the dude standing up to him.
Hence the next song (the heavy track) narrating, "The crew froze as he wiped the blood off his coat and threw the helmsman ruthlessly overboard." HAHA!!! ( ^ - ^)♪♫
They've got a new album coming out the end of February. I've heard two songs from it - that lyric video is so awesome! Getting really excited! So getting a digital download of this!

Generally speaking: I think there are a lot of BM/Pagan Metal bands/projects, that don't focus on 'hating christianity' when it comes to their concept and lyrics. So I guess it's all a matter of definition. Of course, if "Anti-Christianity" means "not being a Christian", there won't be that many bands left outside of the Christian metal realm...

I think my vote goes to Eïs (formerely known as Geïst). They are a german Black/Extreme Metal band, some of my first Black Metal CD's were 2 of their albums. I think I would describe their music as Atmospheric Black Metal, they often use atmospheric samples like the sound of wind or just spoken words. So far, I haven't seen any offensive lyrics by them, in fact, I think their lyrics are really thoughtful and "philosophic" in a way. And btw, (nearly) all of their lyrics are in german, so if you want to know the meaning of a text, just ask me (or google translator ). Here are three cool songs by them: Eïs - Mann aus SteinEïs - Unter toten KapitänenEïs - Helike

don't forget Immortal. One of the best in the BM genre. Their lyrics focus on winter, frost and war and of course Blashyrkh Mighty Ravendark!

I wasn't sure how you define it, because of 'paganism means anti christanity' and so on. That's what I meant: there are, for example, many bands with 'pagan' lyrics, that don't deal with the topic of Christianity at all.

To elaborate a little more, I do consider Pagan bands to be anti-Christian, mainly because their beliefs are directly contradictory to ours (in the same way that Satanism is).

Ok, I get your point of view. Have to say that I look at these things differently, though. I mean, in one way one might call everything anti-Christian, that isn't acknowledging these (spiritual) things to be true, that a Christian considers to be the truth - this would count for atheism as for Paganism and so on. On the other hand, one might simply call it a different belief. Even many types of 'Satanism' consider themselves not to be related to any Abrahamic religions at all (and - in this way - not as a direct opposite), even though specific moral topics might be very contradictory to Christian beliefs for sure.

My favorite is definitely Weakling. (I made a really nice thread about them on TBH but oh well...) They only made one album but it is hands-down my favorite black metal album ever. I made the mistake of listening to their 20-minute title track right before I went to bed one night and dreamt of time-travel, love/loss, the end of the world, the anti-Christ, and all sorts of insanity - all in one dream. It was epic!

I heard a Weakling release where the music was amazing, but the vocals sounded horrible. He does a little bit of this "reality show crying housewife" sound in the clip above, but the album I heard I all vocals like that. It was gross. ↑THIS!!!!↑↑ Ok, I get your point of view. Let me tell you all a story. I had the following outlook for a VERY long time: "Even a song on the radio about drinking beer and pretty girls in t-shirts is anti-Christian. Even though songs like that don't go out of their way to contradict the Christian faith directly, its still not acknowledging Him. ...and if you're not for Him, you're against Him, right?" ...and I was in this strict little box for a very long time - about the lyrics actually, not the music. Doesn't talk about God and glorify Him? Trash - doesn't matter what genre it is. Then one day I took a look at something. Here I was, "pure" in my music, but if I watched a TV show or a movie - if it wasn't about the glorification of God, then it was "anti-Christian" again. "What good is it to be pure with my music but not in other forms of media?" So there went 90% of my movie/TV watching. None of these video games glorify God either. Megaman being all 8-bit, shooting robots. That's anti-Christian. So my world is getting smaller and smaller and smaller... because I'm trying to be "Christian". Help me out God, why do I feel more and more limited? Then I stopped thinking and listened to Him. Then I had a spiritual awakening to my current belief. All forms of media (music, movies, games, etc.) are entertainment and entertainment tells stories. (because they're entertaining) Stories (in whatever form of media/entertainment) that are "Anti-Christian" is what slanders God or the Christian faith. Everything else, is just a story to be entertained by. "There once was a man who didn't believe in God, liked to ride motorcycles, ran for governor and caught the largest fish in the state. He had a great life and a lot of friends. Then he died at age 78 and his family was sad. The end." Nope. Not an anti-Christian story. As a human being, I have a curious nature. I like to learn and as a result of my explorations, I have some "entertainment" in my life that's anti-Christian. Does that mean I'm rebelling against God? ...or trying to piss Him off? ...or trying to justify sin? No more than I'm trying to justify murder by watching and enjoying The First 48. ________________________________ Here's the TL;DR version: God taught me being desensitized about my entertainment doesn't mean I'm compromising my faith. It means that it can't have me by the balls - because it has no power.

He does a little bit of this "reality show crying housewife" sound in the clip above, but the album I heard I all vocals like that. It was gross. I wonder what you heard? They only have one album, plus a couple demos (though I think one of the demos doesn't have any vocals). The vocals ARE super extreme. It took about a year of hearing samples for 'em to set in for me. Initially I felt exactly as you. But then it just clicked with me and now I couldn't imagine the album with vocals any different. They're so over the top and extreme, but it works so well! It really adds to the insanity and bizarreness of the album as a whole. I haven't heard of Xanthochroid before, but I'll have to check these guys out!

I love Immortal. Abbath says the new album's music is done - they just got to stop fighting with each other and submit it to Nuclear Blast.

Sounds good, the last album was ok. Not their best. I met Abbath and Demonaz once. haha strange people. Looks like they have lived a rough lifestyle.. but they had great sence of humor! Which Immortal album do you like best?

I think I like Blizzard Beasts best. Strange production, but I like that , let's say, Morbid Angel influence combined with their typical trademarks. Nevertheless, all albums are cool. Perhaps even frosty.

Best from the old School Black Metal period. Along with Pure holocaust. From the more Thrash oriented records I think At the hearts of winter is the best.

Countess Nordicathy still sings at my old church. ...and by sings I mean she's extremely Nordic and destroys Satan by singing louder than the choir and the police that show up.
