Very creative song themes. Haven't listened to it yet, but I will. Did you get my email bro? I wish the songs were longer. Its hard to dig my hooks in with an 8 second track. HAHA!!! Its spontaneous. Reminds me of DDR - musically and lyrically. [mr1]

I checked out some of the bands on this thread. Noise has some neat genres. It would be sweet if some folks could describe what they like about the genre(s). (I know that can be a difficult question -- I would have to think about an answer for even my favorite bands.) For me, its atmosphere and spontaneity. Apart from grindcore, its not like any other genres sound like this. HAHA!

alright let me try to tear this open for you so let's start with noisecore, my fav noise style. Basically just read this article. This guy was brilliant. tapesandpoverty.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-war-waged-on-industrial-colonialism.htmldrone: If genres like doom metal or sludge metal interest you, this would be the next extreme alternative focusing on the more sonic texture of audio aesthetics. Power Electronics: if you ever enjoy the abrasive degradation of being in a factory or standing by a construction site watching machines destroy the earth while hearing the souls of many cry because of their anomie, then this genre is for you. This is atonal, loud noises and small noises, chainsaws, machinery, screams and chaos and subtle annoying sounds. Harsh noise: pretty much power electronics times ten or whatever. It's more of a combination between drone and PE. There is no trve harshnoise, it's just a combo of other noise genres with a recorded or generated audio file that clips (I hope you something about audio engineering or else I'd have to explain some of those terms) HNW (Harsh Noise Wall): pretty much harsh noise at the maxx. Think about what a wall is and now transfer that idea to music. It is just an abrasive torrent of unrelenting sonic torture. This would be the right genre to play at any CIA interrogation room. The way to make hnw different from the next guy is the texture of the wall. Musique Concrète: one of the first styles of noise, watch this Avant-Garde: look up Luigi Russolo and then listen to this Field Recordings: exactly what it sounds, people taking a microphone of some sort and recording their surroundings Ambient: pretty sure you have an idea of what this is. just soft background music to add atmosphere to surroundings. Ambient also has multiple subgenres: dark, space, horror, fantasy, etc Glitch: exactly what it sounds like. Just take any song and mess it up digitally. Lowercase: the opposite of HNW pretty much, different artists have different takes on this genre. The original intent was to record the subtleties of life: recording an anthill, paper filing, water evaporating, etc. but the genre has become more of a minimalistic EDM type genre. Power/Rhythmic Noise: the marriage of the rhythm of industrial/techno and atonality of noise. And then there is shoegaze, noise rock, noisepop, no wave, aleatoric, free jazz and industrial

What do you like about any of these genres?

Hmm I can really only explain from an artist's perspective since i really hardly listen to noise for fun.
I like to put on some HNW every now and then when I'm in the mood, and I always put on a friend's new noise release because I view noise as an unhindered look into the soul of the artist. I find it very intimate at times to listen to their stuff, especially if it's drone, PE, or harshnoise. I connect to most music and anti-music on an emotional level. A lot of noise however is extremely political, philosophical, or intellectually driven which I can't connect to as easily despite my love for noise culture.
I've made some of these styles but can't really with the amount of pedals and set up I have so far. Been making some field recordings and have been having fun with those. I have a record label releasing some tapes of it soon. It's just coolatmospheric stuff to lose yourself into

It would be sweet if some folks could describe what they like about the genre(s). (I know that can be a difficult question -- I would have to think about an answer for even my favorite bands.) Noise in general - I like loudness/rawness and black metal doesn't really do the trick for me. Unless we're talking about like, Verdelger or Azrael or something. Drone/ambient noise - It's relaxing somehow. HNW - It's a combination of dissonance and relaxation. On one hand, it's one of the most extreme forms of music conceivable, but on the other hand, it's pretty much just like a really loud rainstorm. And listening to rain is relaxing. Noisegrind and blacknoise - They're like black metal, but up to my extremely high standards of noisiness! Rhythmic noise - I like industrial noises for some reason Experimental / avant-garde noise - I like weird music.

For me, its atmosphere and spontaneity. I think spontaneity is the reason that I enjoy Ampere so much. Their music is so chaotic and technical, but still manages to somehow be memorable.

TE, TV, NI, CW, thank you for your responses. Based on your answers, it seems like the reasons y'all like it are for its spontaneity, uniqueness, and extremeness, as well as some sort of provision of insight, peace, or satisfaction.
Interesting stuff. Thank you.

I'm not really a noise fan. I was just applying what Thomas said to a screamo band.
Glad that my post was at least a little helpful though lol.

Well I also like noisecore for the philosophical aspect as well.
I love putting on noisecore whenever I just want the weirdest, craziest, worst music ever. The intensity and tone gets at me too and really makes me enjoy a demo for more than its novelty. Most of the time thought I listen to noisecore so as to study what they do so I can see if I can apply any aspects to my stuff.
Performing/recording noisecore for me is about raw emotional, abstract, and/or primitive expression. There are still a lot of rules in noisecore, but for the most part, you can do whatever. It's atonal and unrhythmic. If it's fast and abrasive, it's good. Most noisecore is an attack against music, aiming to defile my sense of hearing. I just love that about it.

Inspeaking of noisecore, here's a demo I recorded today. Wrote it to deal with the fact that my favorite venue (the last all ages venue) in Fresno closed, Dynamite Vinyl. So this is me letting off some steam. If any of you want this for free on tape, let me know, but if you're not in USA, I would like help to ship it since international shipping prices are ridiculous. bulwhalug.bandcamp.com/album/dynamite-demo

I totally forgot that I accidentally went to a(n) *insert the correct subgenre of noise* show in 2015. The show was advertised as 'solo electronics' -- it was very different from anything I've heard live before. In fact, in trying to recall what the heck I listened to that day, I tried to find more information on these artists and these are the actual recordings from the show!: natetrier.bandcamp.com/album/nevernaut; chriswelcome.bandcamp.com/album/other-realms. The second song on the latter link was a bit painful at parts to listen to in that tiny room, to be frank. Definitely some interesting stuff. I mostly wanted to share because here I was asking you all about noise and I 100% forgot that I actually went to a noise concert.

Inspiration came from a bunch of random noisecore I was listening to earlier that day: Patareni, Mierda Humana, Napalm Death Is Dead, Deca Debilane, Pure Noise, Sindrome Do Odio, Payah, and Atrofia Cerebral. Maybe Sindrome Do Odio was the main influence.
The vocals was attempting a totally different style. I recorded them late at night in my apartment where I had to be quite so I did quiet screams. I think they turned out well. There was also a huge emotional release by doing the screams because just moments before I got a scary text from a friend and then saw a Facebook post that seemed pretty suicidal. I recorded the vocals in a state of fear of losing him to suicide.
This was the first Ferguson release that is more focused on emotional catharsis than political satire but I think it still fits

I can hear the emotion in your vocals, wow. The production takes a little getting used to - I tend to like "louder" production with stuff like this, but overall I think the quieter sound works well here. I should really check out more of your other stuff under the "Ferguson" name; so far, I only know this demo, and your debut "Pathetic Way to Die". Edit: By the way Ben, do you know a band called Verdelger? You might like them. They're kind of a strange case, though - the rips you can find online (the ones on YouTube) are noisier / rawer than they are on the actual CD itself.

So I'm listening to some weird experimental ambient / noise hybrid right now. MNL9 - For... Christ... My... Is... For...I like it a lot, personally. I could see myself listening to this again. Though I'd say it's definitely something you have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate.

Wanting to do a bit of promo just so you guys can literally hear my pain. I did an Oathbreaker-esque vocal freakout outro at the end of the final Ferguson. This recording actually made me late on rent but I decided it was worth it. It's supposed to be a big ending for a part of my life: my life in Fresno before I move to Tulsa and my departure from my demo band days. When I first moved to Fresno the very first band I saw live here (Dependence) made me fall in love with what the city could offer, thinking it was a lot. I was excited to work with what seemed to be a vibrant music scene. So when I went back to China with my family for a final year before graduating high school I decided that Fresno was where I belonged and maybe God did want me to move to this crap town. The music scene I thought I saw was just a vacating shell of empty shows and crappy bands. So I have tried to use every piece of this buffalo. My split side was recorded by Jacob Lee (Skull Incision, Keeper, PlasticSkull Records) who actually recorded Dependence's first few releases as well as all of FIEND's discography, the one local grindcore band that could not fill a room in its own city but managed to get booked for Maryland Deathfest and freaking Obscene Extreme Festival in Czech Republic, the drummer is now in Skeletal Remains btw. My roommate FINALLY joined Ferguson after knowing him for 3 years with us discussing from the very start of our friendship that we wanted to do a band together. This release is not just a normal grindcore release from me but a deeply emotional one. As I recorded vocals I thinking about the hopelessness and utter disappointment I've felt from this city that be so great but fails. I vent my fear of goodbye having to throw away what I built up and having to start again, knowing how many times I've had to do that before and emotional exertion that will happen. I'm already dealing with the fear of rejection of what might come in Tulsa because I already deal with enough rejection and loneliness. I had some good times here in Fresno, but it is far overshadowed by the crap I've had to deal with. The lonely nights (every single night). A church split. Isolation from family and friends I've made over the years. Depression and Insomnia control my nights and days. At least i had my band Ferguson keep me at bay. Those band nights with just my drummer and I trying to figure out what a band looks like. Not sure how to communicate to each but not able to have any real form of role model. We set out to do black metal and did grindcore instead. We never did connect and chances are I may never talk to him ever again when I move. I'll cherish the times that when no one talked to me he would reach out and ask if I wanted to go to the movies. I guess I'm already mourning my departure from Fresno. And sure not everyone will know all this subtext to this album, but I wish they did. It would mean so much if all my real friends were to check out my music and affirm me in what enjoy doing. So here it is! Oh and did I mention that the band I did a split with has been around for 13 years and gone on tours around the world and are maybe the single greatest influence of Ferguson? How often does a little local band get an opportunity like that? I'm trying to stay humble but feeling some accomplishment and affirmation would be cool. bigpharmarecords.bandcamp.com/album/split-14

Wait, you're ending Ferguson? Wait, you're moving? Your post does add a lot of context to this split - your vocals do have a particularly emotional sound here. Even the guitars sound more "emotional" than usual. And it is awesome that you got to do a split with such a big influence on your project Hoping/praying for the best when you move, man.
