I've briefly mentioned here that I have a project. Actually I have two (active) ones, but the main one is LAYATS. I cannot begin to describe the music I do, lol. I'm honestly debating if this should even go into the "black metal" section. Edit: Thanks for moving this to "the great music mesh", Thomas! I primarily make black metal influenced music. But I make all kinds of different stuff. Most songs I do are improvised and made in two days or less. lookaboveyouatthesky.bandcamp.com/ ^There's a link to the music. My personal favorite thing on there is the "Unblack Something" EP. And yeah, I'm a brony. Sue me : P Anyway, I've mentioned a new EP/album I was working on that had a lot of electronic influences and was really trying to work solely on that. I couldn't help myself, though - I also did a black/noise song yesterday. I still have to do vocals, but it's pretty much done. I'll probably post the song here tomorrow. Edit: For black metal, check out "War EP". It's improvised, most of it was done in one take but it... it is definitely black metal!

I only had a chance to listen to that lake song, but I want to listen to more and comment later. Never understood brony's.
I mean, colors and ponies aren't a deterrent, I'm just wondering where the cool is. I must have missed it.

The "Unblack Something" sounds like something that would play at a twisted black metal carnival. I hope you take that as a compliment lol. I'm going to check out the black metal improv when I get a chance today.

War EP is kinda like post black metal on some parts. It's pretty cool. Impressive knowing it was completely improvised.

... This is definitely better feedback than I was expecting! Thanks! Sure "something that would play at a twisted black metal carnival" is a complement! "Unblack Something" is a weird EP, I'm glad to see it described with words that are specifically not typical black metal adjectives. I was kind of afraid you'd be put off by "War EP". That stuff's pretty dark. Glad you liked it though! You compared parts of it to post-black. I'm not actually sure what post-black is.

You've never heard of post-black metal? It's kinda hard to describe. The only Christian band that I know of is Scroll, though they (he) also have a lot of noise influences as well. scroll.bandcamp.com/

I heard of it, but wasn't sure what it was. It... seems to be like blackgaze but with a bigger emphasis on the black metal part?

The intro about lost me man - wasn't a big fan of that. ...but the noise is good man. Especially when that intensified drumming about 2:11 holds longer.
I like your vocals!

Thanks! I think the reverb helps to be honest, but I did really strain my voice for this. I think I'm a bit out of practice with screams.
But I'm wondering - why didn't you like the intro?

That high pad sound was too friendly - the riff too progressive (major key) and ancient "space voyage" sounding. It didn't fit the onslaught that came after it. The last few albums I've done (Ankou Awaits, Orationem) I've recorded the vocal tracks consecutively until they're all done. 40+ minute albums with multiple takes in a few spots, it might be a solid hour + of harsh vocals. I've learned to scrape all my blackened vocals off the back of my throat rather than throwing my lungs into the bottom of my throat and throwing my speaking voice out. My vocals are maybe a little bit louder than a normal speaking voice, but definitely not as loud as core-ish screaming vocals. In my experience, too much lung is baaaaaad for endurance.

I'm still planning to do more with this project, but the more time goes on, the more I wonder if I'm even going to bother including guitars. I have extremely minimal passion for the guitar, and it always just slows down my productivity. Not to mention my motivation. I haven't had much motivation overall lately to begin with, but if I did sit down to make more music, I'd probably get hung up on the guitar like I always do.
I want to include the guitar in some of my music, but not that much. It'd probably just be every now and then. Or from session guitarists, if I could find any if the need arises.

I meant to check this out yesterday bro but I forgot I'm sorry! It's tough to check stuff out because usually I am at work when I visit message boards and I can't play music out loud. Will try to remember to check it out tonight!

I didn't know this was here. I like that "So Close to Destruction" track better. The riffs used seem too progressive for my tastes and the 2:40 song length means it's over before I can really get my hooks into it. The guitar lead/solo was really cool though.

Hey, cool vocals man! Sounds like they would go great with industrial music... like, I found myself wanting an electronic beat... but then there was the guitar section that Thomas mentioned which was great! It made me glad this was an experimental piece. I liked it, good song overall dude--nicely done!

Thanks guys!! Thomas - I know you said you preferred full-length albums, I'd still like to do longer stuff, I just... wasn't gonna get much more than 2:40 out of this unfortunately. Deepfriar - It's funny you should mention that - originally I was going to include dubstep in this thing too lol but I got lazy. I'm really glad you guys like the guitar in the middle!

So far for the new noise EP, we have:
Completed: - harsh noise + text-to-speech whisper screams + electronic elements
In progress: - distorted wind samples + whisper screams + other effects that I'm working on - VERY noisy electropop + death/black vocals
Haven't started: - black/noise + electronic influences - short rhythmic noise song - noise / post-rock
I can't even imagine what people with even slightly normal musical tastes are going to think when they hear this music. It's not the greatest music ever; just some stuff I need to get off my chest.

Thanks! I'm actually pretty excited about this, it's technically the first thing I've ever had released by a label!

Listened to and enjoyed again 'Yours Also The Night'. More of that first track in future work would be awesome!

I'll keep it in mind I tend to just be ... confused, in a way, with making music. Inspiration is very sporadic for me, and tends to be for extremely random and differing types of music. I genuinely don't know how bands can stick to making one style of music for decades on end. I'm not saying that facetiously - I genuinely am unable to comprehend it.

I was listening to the 17 minute track earlier today. I ran through these and I actually enjoy them all with the weird noise thing one being second favorite and the Acts one being a clear favorite -- it was awesome!

Thanks man! Though of course I can't take full writing credit for the "Acts 5:19" song since it was just made with loops in Soundation. Very glad to hear someone enjoyed these random songs though!
