I didn't get the abbathy-thing until mid track. Yeah! Totally even felt like it belonged on the last Immortal!! Man, I had some serious drum beats going through my head while listening to this...

That first riff is actually something that came about from me botching a riff from "Spit out the Bone" from the latest Metallica release, believe it or not. Botched it a bit, then went "I kind like that...", then went in a chorded direction instead of a single note riff.
Honestly, if I had to name the 4 biggest influences on my playing as it stands right now, it's probably be Hetfield, Jon Shaffer of Iced Earth, Arnt "Obsidian C" Gronbeck ( I probably butchered that spelling), and Abbath/Demonaz. I often wonder if it's as apparent to other folks as it is to me......

I lost count how many times I was looking (with my guitar) for Orationem riffs, messing up something but totally dug the mess up, do it stayed.

Another night off, another track stitched together. I'm getting fairly productive at this; this one really only has about 90 minutes in to everything from grabbing my iRig to uploading to soundcloud. Again, rough patches here and there, and the faster riffs in the second half are literally something I came up with Tuesday morning before bed. They're a speed/style that's outside my comfort range, and I tried them with minimal practice. Nowhere NEAR how tight and clean I want to be with them. I've decided to go ahead and post up where I think I'm headed in an ordered playlist form. The newest number is "no drums demo track 6" in the playlist, "track 7" was previously posted as "Abbath-Y thing the other day". Track 3 is yet to be recorded, track 4/5 are slated to be the "stormsinger" bit off the soundclick stuff and a lengthier intro/interlude for it. soundcloud.com/exolasher/sets/no-drums-demo-2016

Thanks! I wish I was a better player when it comes to recording, and that IOS GarageBand had better options for fading in and out on songs, tracks, and various takes, because I'm envisioning this as one fairly cohesive work without a lot of abrubt switch in between tracks, and it's looking like it's gonna hit 40-48 minutes total. I'm happy enough with my results as a sort of musical sketch pad, though. Gives a fairly good idea what I'm going for.....

Have you tried Audacity for that?

The only reason I'm using GarageBand is simplicity and convenience. It's very "plug and play", has self contained amp sims and stomps built in. Keep the iRig in the box with my headphones, literally just plug that into my iPhone's headphone jack, plug my guitar and headphones into the iRig, and I'm ready to go.....
We've actually got both a Mac mini and a MacBook Pro with Reaper installed along with the "full feature" GarageBand app, it's just WAY more convenient to use the phone for sketching things out and stitching things together to lay out the song. When I'm happy with my base results on this stuff and feel like I've tightened my playing up enough, THEN i'll work at getting a GOOD set of takes going on something more "pro oriented". I don't even own a set of decent computer speakers right now, much less a decent interface or set of monitors.......

↑ what you described Exo, is pretty much how my setup works with my software. Contributes a lot to me finishing albums as fast as I do. Just plug in and go to work.

Update again..... soundcloud.com/exolasher/sets/no-drums-demo-2016Now to 7 pieces, almost 48 minutes. "Track 7" has been re-vamped with several new parts in front of the older "Abbathy thing" bit, to smooth the transition between part6 and 7. It's a complete new recording with my new iRigHD2......

I'd love to have drums.....but I don't really feel like THIS is ready/good enough..... Doesn't truly fit my vision....YET. Most of these tracks are meant to flow seamlessly, no real break between them fade out/in stuff that was not accomplishable while getting this together. This was all literally JUST the first step for me. This initial process is also DONE. Last track concept is up. Gave the project a "real" title, took the easy way out as far as track titles because lyrical concepts and snippets are still bouncing around in my brain, grabbed a bit of public domain art for a project background......I feel a very slight sense of accomplishment to have actually seen it thru this much, because there's been several aborted attempts to get something off the ground in the past.... soundcloud.com/exolasher/sets/no-drums-demo-2016

I'm not sure where this fits into the conversation, but I'm really feeling the first track from the above soundcloud link, Exo.

Thanks!
That acoustic open in track 1 is actually a bit that was initially written by my oldest daughter. I heard her messing with it, she taught it to me, I tweaked it a bit for "my" playing style, and the floodgates opened into the rest of the song. The lead bit over it was an idea that was completely spontaneous, which surprised me, because my brain just doesn't DO "lead" playing....(.or maybe I should say "didn't", because that window has opened a crack over the last couple of months....).
I ALWAYS heard it as an "album opener" in my head, just to set up the overall melancholy thing I feel is in a lot of the more laid back bits. It's subtitled "Initium" because it coming together is quite literally what started the whole deal.

Not metal!
This is a song I made like a year and a half ago when dealing with depression and addiction: (one or two pretty ugly notes I didn't rerecord) This is a rap that I spontaneously did about this forum two nights ago: (please feel free to NEVER listen to this ha)

Like a month ago, I was improvising on my 12-string a bit before going to night-shift. So, yeah quite messy with a few wrong notes.

Oh, I'll be taking another stab at it under better circumstances with a more beloved guitar. Doing it from a camp chair with my lesser set of headphones isn't conducive to much more than "don't lose the idea".......

Ok, so overnight, I have realized that I can play the newest piece on a 6 string tuned to drop c#......which places it in the same key as this, IF I play it on a 6 instead of the 7 I used. soundcloud.com/exolasher/my-song-10I've had that floating for literal years, so I used it to demo the same 7 string I brought to camp for you guys when I got it.........never had a good way to get "in" to them......but if I play THEM on the same 6 string i'l be rr-recording yesterday's bits with when I get home....... Looks like I've actually got another of my typical 8 minute bits going, AND I have a lead but I can actually play marinating as well. .
