I'm 9 days early, I know, but I couldn't wait!!!! This forum is still alive and kicking a year later. We've come a long way as far as attendees, new music, awesome contributions and fellowship. This wouldn't be the thriving forum it is without you guys. ...if it weren't for you, I'd just be here talking to myself! I plan on posting some stats later, but right now - I just finished "the gift" which was already mentioned in the other thread. Dramatic Dill Reincarnation was a bit of an insider "grindcore" joke a few months back. I mentioned having this on "my list", and while life through a pretty big hurdle at me the end of last year, I'm pleased to say that I can check this one off! I'm pleased with the results, and this is 7 songs of the funniest grindcore I can imagine. If you guys laugh even 1/3rd as much as I did making this, your sides should be splitting!

Listened to the first couple songs, great stuff LOLOL!!!
And 1 year with The Blackest Light is definitely worth celebrating! I came in about half way so I may not be a vanilla forum member, but maybe I can be white chocolate?

Wahoo! Wow, it doesn't seem like it's been a whole year already! I can't wait to listen to the songs! Is there going to be a vinyl release of DDR?

I came in about half way so I may not be a vanilla forum member, but maybe I can be white chocolate? HAHA!! Well, in my opinion, its not how long you were here, but how many posts you've made. I know no one probably cares about the "ranks" everyone has, but again, that's set by number of posts, not duration of visits. On that note, the top 3 posters are Myself, Kerrick and Crimson Warrior. You're actually in 4th place with number of posts so... you're definitely a staple here. Wahoo! Wow, it doesn't seem like it's been a whole year already! I can't wait to listen to the songs! Is there going to be a vinyl release of DDR? I would have no qualms allowing physical releases or compilation appearances for DDR, but I'm not going to plan it myself.

Dude, you should make an uber trve grim kvlt CDr with the band name hand-written in indecipherable grindcore font, h and numbered in binary to seven copies. The slip-sleeve should be made out of toilet paper rolls cut, flattened, and stapled together.

I listened to the other songs on this (listened to the first two earlier) This was wonderful, haha, I think I recognize the Family Feud clip in the one song - is that from the YTP you shared in The Outskirts the other week?

I had some laughter envisioning myself doing a youtube video, showing myself making Kerrick's idea and being all "Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!" about it.

Oh yeah! If you read each song description on YouTube, it states that I got all the samples from Dathings1's channel.

Yes Thomas please do!!! I'd buy a copy... Eh, the samples are from another person's YTP videos. And the clips on those videos are taken from other things. An official release probably wouldn't be legally feasible (I almost wrote "A physical release wouldn't be physical") unless it really were an "unofficial" release, like Thomas literally releasing 7 copies for us.

The sample clips aspect is perfectly legal, physical release or not. That wouldn't stop be one bit for making this a physical release. Death metal and grind bands have been including clips from movies/documentaries/tv shows/etc. since the mid 80's. As long as you reference where you got it from, its all good.
(The Akryal CD I did in 2001 had sound clips from Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen and I referenced what I needed to do to be "legal")
Same with cover songs - legally, you do not have to ask permission to the song writer at all to produce/publish a cover song. All you have to do is cite it as a cover, and you're good.
What would stop me from making this a physical release is (pretty much like you said NI) only a handful of people would want this. I learned my lesson from GRIM - Vespers. The only way I (myself) would make this into a physical release to sell is if there was a petition floating around with 20 signatures on it that they would buy a CD.
Now if a label wanted to do a physical release, well hell yeah - I would give them permission and there would be a physical release then.

Well since it's a joke project to begin with, I think making the physical release a joke too would be appropriate. I mean, actually release it, but on a CDr with goofy packaging (I still like my toilet paper roll idea... though I'm not sure it'd be big enough) and the like. And definitely under ten copies made. If you make the packaging out of recycling, it wouldn't cost much of any money to make!

The money cost is nothing. I'd break even on that if I knew 20 people really REALLY wanted CDs. HAHA!!! The toilet paper roll thing is hilarious, but it would have to be a "stripe" as its 3.71" and a CD insert "square" (heh, square) is 4.75.
The cost of time involved in special-physical production is something I don't want to invest in myself. I'm totally passing the buck to a label about that. LOL

As I promised, here are some stats. _______________________________
These are from the board's creation (January 24th 2015), to the end of 2015. (December 31st) When 1/24 gets here, I'll actually release a downloadable spreadsheet featuring all the numbers... for anyone who wants to view.

The highest number of threads created in a day was 10, shortly after the forum was created. (1/27/2015) There were 140 days in 2015 when 0 threads were created.
On 1/27/2015, 6 people registered / became members. The day before, it was 4 people. In 2015 there were a total of 49 people join The Blackest Light.
Regarding Averages, number of posts made per day in the 2015 year was 15.13. Average of 523 views per day Average of 1.2 threads were created per day (evened out, that would mean 6 new threads every 5 days)

If I wasn't so under the weather, I would have posted this yesterday. Here's a spreadsheet with The Blackest Light forum data. Views, posts, threads created and members. If you don't have Excel, you can open/sort/etc. using OpenOffice, which is completely free. www.eversoul.net/TBL_2015.xls

Can I just say how dope "The Blackest Light" is as a name, considering what we stand for? For real, it's awesome.
