Found a chat plugin that works with Proboards and was easy enough to install. (called Chatwing) It is a 3rd party entity requiring a login. It looks like you can log in with a Facebook account and a few other social media options. ....if you flee from social media, like myself, you can create your own account/profile on Chatwing.com
Currently, this and the shoutbox are both enabled. Given some time (or even popular vote) I'll remove whatever is obsolete.
(I'm guessing though that the shoutbox will help start chats by letting people know who's currently online)

I really enjoy the shoutbox and wouldn't want to see it go! I've never been big on chat options (I have mine always disabled on FB and such) butI know a lot of people like it, so cool!

The Chatwing seems kinda pointless to me...it's just like a second shoutbox.

You guys are right. I was hoping it would be more like a chatroom, but... oh well. I tried. Maybe I'll find something else we all like better?
Easy enough to remove at least. [actually]

Right on. Yeah this particular one did seem quite similar to the shoutbox (which I really like) but probably not necessary.

Chatwing has mobile apps for Android and iOS so you can get real time push and email alerts directly on your phone when new messages are posted. It also has private messaging so we can pm each other in real time and also get the alerts on the phone. The best thing to do is get rid of the existing shoutbox(which is old) and just put a chatwing shoutbox, it has so many more customiation options. For example instead of the existing shit emoji this shoutbox has with chatwing you can upload a bunch of custom emojis like all blackest light emoji theme.
i would say the biggest advantage to using the chatwing shoutbox opposed to this old one is the mobile features so we can get real time alerts when there is new chatter here and do not need to check this for new messages, plus being able to drop youtube videos directly into the chatwing shoutbox is a nother great feature that this old shoutbox can't do.
Everyone needs to listen to the admin and go with chatwing instead of acting like little girls..

Wow. Some good points. Thanks for pointing them out! I guess I didn't notice the features you were talking about - are they available in the free version? ....or do they come with the pay upgrade?

We should probably determine what we want before we make any changes. I see the shoutbox/chat/whatever primarily as a means to post stuff that's not necessarily worth making a separate thread for. Secondly to chat real-time in the [somewhat off-chance] that folks are online at the same time and want to have real-time chat, though that rarely happens and for our needs, I'd say isn't too crucial. As for the chatwing features... -Mobile/email alerts: I don't think we've ever chatted about anything important enough that I'd want mobile alerts hahahaha. Nor is there enough traffic to necessitate that IMO. -Private Messaging: Our forum has a plenty good PM feature; no need for another one. -Emojis: The current chatbox has all the same [custom and not] emojis that TBL has. If we want more, it seems pretty easy to add them and then we could use them on TBL too. -Youtube: Can't put videos in the shoutbox, that's true. I haven't noticed that being too troublesome though; we can always copy/paste links if need be. -Load time: My internet is decent but not great, but when we had the chatwing, it took noticeably longer to load and if I did something on it and then hit "back," the page would not go back - only the chatwing - which was quite annoying. All that being said, I don't want to be called a little girl so we better reinstall chatwing!

What if the admin acts like a little girl? *throws a Barbie and cries about it*
If anyone wants mobile alerts, that's already setup with Tapatalk. Kerrick is right about the PMs and Emoji. Chatwing actually loads super fast for me so I'm not sure what kind of delay you have?
When I get a spare moment, I'll double check the chatwing features again. I want to see if it loads on mobile pages for those who don't use Tapatalk. That's one definite advantage.
Ultimately, I was hoping for something that would let others know who's online real time... rather than the shoutbox which seems to be based on page refreshing?

Meh, second round through, I don't see anything that's much better than the Shoutbox. The only thing in addition to the chatwing is that there's "networks" that I can join... which there's Christian chat ones. It wouldn't be applicable to Christian black metal though.
Seems cool if you'd want to chat with random Christians, but I think I'll scrap this idea unless you guys are really on board with that network idea...

^Haha yeah, it's rather brazen (among other things) to come onto our forum and start saying stuff like that... Whatever.

Just a drive by folks. Nothing more to see here. He's welcome as long as he's civil. If he's belligerent his next pass, I'll have a spike strip set out for him.
