On Saturday, February 13th, at roughly 5:30pm, I asked Veronika to marry me. And she said 'yes'!!! [orly] [shoppingcart] [disco] I proposed at one of our favorite spots which we dubbed "Veronika's Beach." It was also at the same location that I had first asked her to date me almost a year ago. It was an absolutely beautiful day with a gorgeous sunset in a place that is very sentimental for both of us. It's a super exciting time for both of us, though it's also going to a difficult one. As you may know, she's not a US citizen and therefore the paperwork process is full of bureaucracy, waiting, frustration, and more waiting. Also, she flies back to Barcelona (where the school is that she's getting her PhD at) this Wednesday and it'll be a few months before we see each other again. (The plan is for me to live out that way for a few months.) So your prayers are greatly appreciated! We haven't posted on Facebook about it so for those of you who are my "friends" (and I use that term VERY loosely... ), please hold off on posting anything about this there until we've made the announcement. But I wanted to let y'all know now.

Incredibly happy for you my friend! The photos seem to capture the beauty but I'm sure it was even better in person!
One again, congratulations! Prayers headed your way. Great job working up the nerve to ask, you ol' softie!

[orly] - indeed! Blessings on you both. May you find favor with INS. Haha thanks! We'll definitely appreciate all the favor we can get from them... Incredibly happy for you my friend! Great job working up the nerve to ask, you ol' softie! ~DF Thank you! It was mighty gorgeous indeed. We also saw this guy on our walk to the spot. (He's an elephant seal. With my parents a couple weeks ago we went on a guided tour of elephant seals at a somewhat nearby area where they gather once a year so we were already familiar with them. They're super cool and very funny looking animals! I'm sorry the picture isn't great but you don't want to get too close to these fellas.)

This weekend I/we finalized the I-129F packet and sent it off in the mail!!! That's the fiancee visa application. It was probably about 50 pages in all. It feels so good to have that done! Now we've just got to wait for the government to process it and *HOPEFULLY* not need any more information (which would delay us further). The waiting period is typically ~six months but hopefully it'll take less time. Then we'll have to interview with the government so they can see that we're legit and not just trying to get Veronika a green card or something. More paperwork and more money will need to be submitted still, but the bulk of it is done!

In less than a month, I'll be in Barcelona for THREE MONTHS to spend with Veronika! I can't wait. My boss is totally encouraging and allowing me to work remotely part-time (probably half-time for half-pay) which is AWESOME. Hopefully by then our paperwork will go through and we'll be able to get married relatively soon after my trip is over!

Thanks guys! Yeah it's pretty darn exciting! It'll be so good to not have to do the long distance stuff and actually get to BE with Veronika!
Also, today marks our one year anniversary of meeting one another. What a full and eventful year it has been!

In addition to figuring out when and where we're going to get married... we need to figure out where to honeymoon! Not to be inappropriate... but the location doesn't *really* matter so long as the lodging is adequate. [shoppingcart] Nonetheless, we'd like to go somewhere nice. Due to Veronika's visa/residency stuff, we won't be able to go outside of the US or its territories. I was thinking maybe the California Lost Coast would be pretty epic. She is envisioning somewhere in the mountains with awesome views and forests and such. Any input?

And it's right above California, so you wouldn't have to go very far. And yeah, I hear you, you want nice lodging, you don't want some really small place or else pushing her around in a shopping cart will be difficult.

Hmm, lots of good options. The Lost Coast would indeed be epic: I like Fort Bragg and farther north you get the other set of redwoods, Crescent City, and such. All of that would be great. The driving on the Lost Coast really requires you to be on your toes. I wouldn't recommend it in an RV! Lots of twisty, narrow roads.
The Oregon Coast is awesome, especially from Lincoln City through Canon Beach.
The Olympic Peninsula in Washington gives you both mountains and ocean, with rain forest on top of that.
I've heard great things about Lake Almanor in Northern California, but it's been ages since I've been there.
I'm sure you'll come up with something great.

There are plenty of lodges in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (TN) including ones in mountainous and wooded areas. It is a huge tourist area (people come from all over the country and I take for granted that it's only about 1.5 hours away) with attractions, amusement parks, and shopping (oh, the shopping... more shops than you could ever visit), don't even get me started on the restaurants... it won't be cheap and it won't be secluded (maybe at the cabins or lodges but not in the shopping/downtown areas) but it's worth considering. Just Google Gatlinburg, TN and Pigeon Forge, TN with another search phrase like lodging or shopping or tourism.

I go to Gatlinburg most summers. It gets old after a while (I've probably been there at least 10 times), but it should be a lot of fun if it's your first time. The city never really changes though. After all those years, it still looks and feels the same.

My honeymoon was at a condo in Destin, FL for a week. Lots of things to do, but a lot of people too.
If she's meh about crowds, I'm sure you could find a previously unknown local gem and go from there. A honeymoon doesn't have to be one spot - travel a bit a hit several different things! Stay different places and wreck your new bride at lodging in a different city every night if you want.
There's a quaint bed and breakfast in the town where I work. It looks just like an enormous nice house on the outside, but the inside is like a really old mansion. Unbelievably beautiful woodwork, high ceilings. Even the doors to the room were huge. Huge hot tube. Awesome breakfast early morning. Nice firm bed to destroy my wife on.
The possibilities are endless!

I'm definitely leaning towards somewhere up that way. We'll see though! There's a quaint bed and breakfast in the town where I work. Huge hot tube. Awesome breakfast early morning. Nice firm bed to destroy my wife on. Yeah something like that sounds pretty good! (Not destroying your wife though... I'll keep to my own! ) And we got some great news today! One step closer!!!

We've set a date! August 27th is our day! Veronika will be headed off to Bratislava in a few hours for her final medical stuff and then the interview. Once that's done and good, she should be getting her visa very very soon!

Wow, less than a month away!!! Holy dang.
These past few days have been super productive for wedding planning stuff! -Honeymoon location booked: near Yellowstone Nat'l Park. (Still gotta get flights and rental car.) -Rings ordered (<$20 Tungsten Carbide rings; they should be great!) -Photographer booked (not a typical "wedding photographer" so no cliche silly photos but just nice pictures that capture the mood and event!)

... Are you sure today's the day? You didn't ... I don't know, ..? How did that time go by that quickly for me?? I can't wrap my mind around this.
