Zurisadai - Symphony of the Souls
Year: 2002
Genre: Black Metal
This was the very first release from Extreme Records, known as Extreme Distributions at the time. I'm not quite sure what led them to sign Zurisadai. Perhaps the band members were the owners of the label.
Symphony of the Souls is one of the most primitive black metal recordings I've ever heard, and I don't mean that in a good way. This music is extremely simple. It features a standard lineup of drums, vocals, a bass, and a guitar, but the compositions are ridiculously basic. Most songs feature just a single guitar, tremolo'ing away, playing very cliche riffs. I'm in the process of teaching myself to play guitar, and I'm fairly certain that I could come up with much better riffs than what they used. The drumming is extremely basic as well. Most of the patterns are simple, though he does occasionally blastbeat and it sounds alright. The vocals are actually pretty good - easily the best part of the EP. They're not the most aggressive thing in the world, but they're better than the vocals that I hear from most Brazilian bands. The bass is barely audible, inaudbile, or absent for the majority of the EP. It occasionally chimes in for a brief time (such as a part towards the middle of "The Coming of Annihilation" when the guitars drop out), but it sounds thin and weak.
Most of my problems with this EP come from the fact that it is simply boring. I don't find it actively annoying to listen to, but I can always think of something that I'd rather be listening to. The songs just drone on and on. Occasionally there's a riff that sticks out a little more that I can bop my head to, but that's about it in terms of entertainment.
I can tell from listening that this band had some potential back in 2002, and they've proven it with their 2014 album The Coming of the Annihilation. It is far superior to this EP in every way. It features all five tracks from the EP plus three more new songs, and even the old EP songs sound extremely better than they did on Symphony of the Souls.

Good luck finding this. It's not like it's worth buying anyway. Go purchase their album instead.
