Offerblod - Offerblod (Compilation)
Year: 2007
Genre: Raw Black Metal
This is a compilation of both Offerblod demos (Offerblod and Sönderknullad) that was remastered and released by E.E.E. Recordings. Offerblod is an obscure Swedish band featuring Karg, the vocalist of Shadows of Paragon. This is some extremely raw and very primitive black metal. I can't say that it's particularly entertaining though; in fact, it's quite bad.
The best and perhaps only good thing about the compilation is the vocals. Karg doesn't sound as good here as he does on Through the Valley Within, but the vocals are still nice and harsh. Sometimes they get too lost in the noise and end up sounding a bit like Flaskavsae (especially in the tracks from Sönderknullad), but for the most part, they do what they need to do. The rest of the music is ruined by the poor production. If this is remastered, I'd hate to hear what the original sounded like. The tracks from the self-titled demo definitely have worse production than Sönderknullad, though not by much. The instruments are mostly audible, but the drums are quiet, and the guitars feel very blunt and soft. The drumming seems decent, but the guitar riffs, as far as I can tell, are very basic and not that interesting. The music just feels lethargic and boring. Sönderknullad is better, though not by much. The guitars are more piercing this time and the drums are a LOT louder, creating a much more noisy sound, but this drowns out the vocals a little bit more. The composition is improved too. The music feels more energetic. "Förvirrad" even features a pretty good riff. "Mänskligt avträde" has a fairly neat and slow intro to help create some kind of mood before the noise takes over.
I simply cannot recommend this. If you really like excessively noisy and raw black metal like Verdelger and Bloedoffer, then you might like the Sönderknullad tracks. But overall, this is simply quite bad raw black metal. If the production were better, it still probably wouldn't be good.
45/100

The compilation and both demos are rare and not really worth looking for unless you're a collector. However, you should definitely go listen to Karg's other project, Shadows of Paragon. You can read my review for their album here.
