After all the crazy hours and stress of the last few weeks at work, I FINALLY had a chance to do a little guitar shopping. decided awhile back that really, the only things "missing" from my arsenal were a decent 4 string bass, and a trem equipped 7 string. I'd spied a couple things on Guitar Center's used section that fit the bill as far as price, and noticed that my local GC had a listing up with a trem equipped Dean Razorback 7 for just slightly higher than I'd initially planned to pay out....but I could actually get it in my hands instead of blind buy. It was "OK", didn't blow me away, and I was waffling about buying it, because the thing is HUGE, and storage would be an issue since it didn't come with a case. I had literally just decided to pull the trigger when I spied the guitar in the picture up there on the wall.......only problem was it was about $200 more than I wanted to spend. the guy waiting on me had just taken the tags off the Dean, and ran to the back to double heck that there was no case for it. While he was gone, I picked the LTD up off the wall, strummed two chords, turned looked at my wife and said "I should NOT have picked this up". My GC rep came walking back up to the sales desk, and I looked at him and said "Pete.....buddy......I think I'm gonna have to change course on what I'm buying, man....." Meet my "new to me" ESP/LTD H-1007 FR. Light swirling in the clear coat, minor chip in the back by the trem cavity cover, missing the battery compartment cover...but previous owner upgraded from the stock EMG81-7 bridge/707 neck to their EMG X series counterparts....traded in my Schecter Omen7 with a SD Pegasus bridge pickup to get this down into my price bracket (and make room....lol!) ended up with a guitar that retails new for a grand (plus upgraded pickup cost) for about a THIRD of the "new" price.......and it feels MILES beyond how the Dean I was initially checking out felt. This thing is a BEAST.

So, do guitars have names like serial numbers now? I don't know how the heck I could remember the name... or tell the difference between it and a HRP/USN t-17398 JNN.

LOL!
Technically, "H1007FR" is the model descriptor. It's ESP/LTD brand (ESP's import line), Horizon model (body style), the 1007 means it's a 7 string model of their "1000" series, which is as "high end" as the import line get's, similar in quality to the basic ESP "main line" models. FR indicates the presence of a Floyd Rose brand tremolo unit.
The ACTUAL serial number indicates that it was made at the World Musical Instrument Co. factory, South Korea, Feb 29, 2012, if I'm remembering the first several digits right......they are a SUPERBLY capable shop that builds higher end import lines for ESP, Schecter, PRS, and several other "big name" brands.....

So that guitar would be called an ESP Horizon? Or is 1007 part of the name too?
You'd think since my brother builds guitars and I publish music with one, I should know what the heck guitar names are, or even know what I play... but I don't.
Says "Dean" on its head. That's about as far as I've went on mine.

I finally looked it up. On the Dean website, it looks like I play an ML Switchblade Floyd HSH.
Had no idea I had an $800 guitar. I paid $200-250 for it from a pawn shop. As for the name... What?
I don't even know what that means. Where does the word Dean go? I feel like I need a giant pair of glasses to shove up my face to answer what the heck kind of guitar I play. Would I sound like a complete moron if I just said I played a Dean Switchblade? ...or do I got to say the whole thing?
I hope not. I feel like Captain Picard giving the computer a security code on Star Trek just to say the name of a musical instrument.

Mine, I'd probably just tell people is an LTD Horizon 7 string. For yours is probably just tell folks it's a Dean ML. If they're confused, I'd clarify with "same thing the dude from Pantera played...."

Also, yours was most likely made in the same factory mine was.

Outdoor, natural light shots, you can see the flame a little better, and the finish chip in the back...... all told, I think I got a heck of a deal!

Maybe this afternoon I can throw a couple terribly played, feedback laden Garage Band snippets on a Soundcloud page, man 😉

I'd love to hear what you got! With those pickups, you ever try any blackened riffs? Standard tuning with the lowest string a B? I've done the custom tuning gig since 2011. I've had some guitar players make a face when I tell them my tuning is C#, E, A, C#, E, C#... but I can make some really intricate riffs with that setup. (If you've had time to listen to that newest Orationem)

Typically I tune a half step down, either standard 7 string B or Drop A, dependent on mood and riff. There's usually enough wiggle room with the fine tuner on the low string I can switch back and forth without unlocking the nut.
I don't tend to play quite true to "blackened" form, my stuff tends to blur influences between thrash/death/black/classic heavy metal......string change is on the agenda today, I'll try and toss a bit of a riff-fest together this afternoon, assuming the time change helps me get my sleep schedule back on track.

I've got an old pair of strings I ended up doing 4 albums with. My wife is going to make some rings out of them. I love the dull and dirty feel of old strings. With Orationem I've at least changed my strings once a year though.

Time change did not help enough. Got guitar back in tune, got feedback issues with IOS GarageBand and iRig sorted as much as possible, got a tone I can live with..........aaaaaaand it's time to get ready for work Clips are a work in progress, though, there's that.......

Not terrible at all. You've got a natural Gothenburg style going on. Just needs the rest of the band!

Sounds great to me! Though this is coming from someone who sucks at the guitar I don't know though, I still hear genuine talent here

From one guy that sucks at guitar to another, I thank you!
If you guys are interested, you should be able to click thru to my main soundcloud page, where there are some other little snippets and stuff floating around, equally poorly executed. Most of 'em are 6 string stuff, played on my Bc Rich Warlock loaded with Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups, and I think there might be something with my 8 string that has Dimarzio PAF's.

Tossing that track down actually has the juices flowing a bit.....today is SUPPOSEDLY a "short day" for work, meaning all I really have to do if last night's snafu hasn't caused a problem is take an hour to write an order this evening......I kinda wanna toss a few other things together now.....
Sometimes it sucks prioritizing the job to the level I've had to for the last 2 months.
