I just stumbled on this place today (February 22, 2017). I would like to join if newcomers are welcome. I am Charles from the band Sylvan Fortress. I am also the guy behind Battlefrost Productions which is mostly an audio recording studio but may also become a small record label as well when the Sylvan Fortress CD is released later this year.
I am hoping to find like-minded fellowship here. I am a metal head from birth and am a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. I lead fellowships and small groups at my church, but none are into metal like me. It would be most excellent to mingle with other metal heads who can appreciate metal, especially black metal.
Places like this bring back the feeling of mystery and discovery that miss from days long past.
Blessing to all and thank you, -Charles

Welcome! I am looking forward to hearing the Sylvan Fortress release when it comes out.
To what other bands do you enjoy listening?

Vaakevandring, Antestor, Crimson Moonlight, Sletchvalk, Immortal, Dissection, Satyricon (old Satyricon).
These are just a few. The list goes on. I enjoy other styles of metal as well like Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iced Earth, Obituary, Immortal Souls, Extol... this could go on forever...ha ha ha.
Thank you for the welcome.

Welcome! I've heard of Sylvan Fortress, too, but I don't think I've ever heard any songs.

Welcome to the forum! Please make yourself at home!! Sylvan Fortress... why does that sound so familiar. We're you on the Blabberboard before it closed? I have never heard of the Blabberboard before so that must not be it. I used to post very rarely on something called the Christian Metal Realm or something like that; I don't know if that is still around. I have not been the most social but I am making an effort now to improve on that. Sylvan Fortress was active in the early 2,000's. We had a full functioning band and played live shows in southern California. We released one single on a compilation disc in the early 2,000's, I forget exactly what year that was. That is probably why the namd may sound a little familiar. The band has since fallen into hibernation with all the other members moving away, pursuing other parts of life, and "other things" as well. I was the founding member along with Scott Lewis of Carnifex...ha ha. Yes, that's right and that was a long time ago. It is ironic because I actually let Scott go, asking him to leave because his voice (he was lead vocals then) was becoming too death metal. I replaced him with my long time friend Lonewolf who had the black metal style I was looking for. We played some shows with Lonewolf on the lead vocals, then he, well I shall talk about that some other time perhaps... Scott went on to become very successful as frontman for Carnifex and Sylvan Fortress receded to shadow. Anyway, after years of life edging out any chance of being in a band, I am finally just doing it again anyway, despite the challenges that keep coming up. I have taken Sylvan Fortress back up. I am no longer worried about having all the members right next to me as in the past. I have recruited members from different parts of the world and we are moving forward with a 5 song disc to get started. Sorry I just typed so much. Maybe that is why I normally stay away from being social...ha ha ha.

Welcome! I've heard of Sylvan Fortress, too, but I don't think I've ever heard any songs. We only ever released one song...ha ha ha. We were mostly just a live band back in the day. But now things have changed. A 5 song album is being worked on right now so you can hear some songs soon.

I definitely want to hear some of your tunes!

I have added two new verses and changed the arrangement a bit. I am utilizing the guitar in a different way than before to fill a different role in the song. It is included on the upcoming release. It is the same song, but different. Of course it will sound quite a bit different with Ronny's vocals on it and Luke's bass and backing vocals. Do you still have a copy of that old version? I lost mine and can't find it anywhere...ha ha.

Someone sent me the mp3 of that song several years ago, I used to try and hear every obscure unblack i heard of, i think the name really intrigued me. I just gave it another couple of spins and its pretty majestic sounding and the shreikist is very strong reminds me of someone i cant place. I did see the comp somewhere online or in a zine many years ago, pretty sure i read an interview with you somewhere too.

Hey Welcome to the forum! I know of you through Demonic Extinction. Looking forward to their new ep coming out soon. And really looking forward to the Sylvan Fortress, I've checked out your teasers from years ago and would love to hear what you're gonna dish out for us.
And will eventually ask you to sdo some mastering sometime in the future. who knows, my band situation is very similar to yours

Hey Welcome to the forum! I know of you through Demonic Extinction. Looking forward to their new ep coming out soon. And will eventually ask you to sdo some mastering sometime in the future. who knows, my band situation is very similar to yours Thank you. I don't know if you know, but I am not in Demonic Extinction. My role in that is I am the audio engineer and producer involved with recording it. All the music was written by Phil Patnode and the lyrics are from Richard Vomiting Vocals. The recording is my contribution. I am looking to hopefully get involved with producing, recording, mixing, mastering, whatever, with as many extreme metal bands as possible as time moves on (especially those with Christian world-views). A while back I did a mix for a black metal band from North Carolina (they were all Christians too). That album was tracked/recorded there and they sent the tracks to me for mixing. I would like to do more of that in the future. So by all means, let's talk about your mastering or whatever you need. I love the Lord and am a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ, I only say (with Christian world-views) because these days I am a little apprehensive on labeling a band a "Christian band" as I am not really sure what that means any more...ha ha ha. Perhaps that can be an interesting topic in itself that would be fun to discuss on this forum.
