Hi everybody. Stumbled upon this forum I think by a Vials of Wrath comment somewhere in the depths of the internet. I was actually looking for something that I could not find in Germany (or German language) so far: People who listen to this very specific kind of music, but without this misanthropic or satanistic junk behind it. So, I hope to be not too boring for you and have some interesting discussions, haha
I listen to this music for more than 20 years now and started with the Scandinavian Black Metal wave early 90's. At that time I was also negative, full of misanthropy and felt a little bit "elite", so this music was a good fit. Unfortunately, it took until mid 2000's when I noticed that all this negative crap cannot be the final answer to the questions of life and being. This is why I put the whole music stuff a bit on hold. But for some reason it felt like a "cold turkey" (if that's the proper term) because I have found nothing so far that could provoke such intense emotions. So you can easily understand how delighted I was to find out that there were also bands like Horde, Antestor or Crimson Moonlight or - more nowadays - the phantastic Vials of Wrath or A Hill to Die Upon and many others that present the music with a different spin.
This is also the reason - with a delay of some 20 years - to start playing guitar. Due to a very limited time budget (job and family are very time consuming) I cannot spend more than an hour or sometimes two per day on practice and progress is very slow (very, very slow, haha), but I did not want to go into the grave without having given it at least a try. Learning an instrument at the end 30's is a very humbling experience, I can tell you that, haha
I would love to find further bands that are equivalent to Burzum, Inquisition (who - by the way - play this evening a few kilometers away), Arckanum, Ondskapt, Deathspell Omega but with a different lyrical context. I would love to get in touch with others who share the passion for the music AND for a more positive approach to life. So, please feel free to reach out. Does anybody here have any connections to Germany?

Hey, welcome Solafide!
Sadly, I don't know of any CBM bands that sound similar to the secular ones you listed because I don't listen to very much secular BM. Thomas might be able to help you out there though.
One of our members, @bones, is from Germany and runs the label No Sleep Till Megiddo Records.

Welcome, Solafide! I am also from Germany (aus dem Schwabenland) - I am glad to notice another German CBM Lover unfortunately, I cannot help to recommend bands in that manner you mentioned - but I highly recommend Hesychast hesychast.bandcamp.com/ as some atmospheric BM stuff with Christian Background

Welcome, solafide! I've heard of all of the bands you mentioned, but I've never listened to most of them. Could you possibly name a few specific songs that best demonstrate what you're looking for?

Man, for some reason, I am having a rough time finding bands similar to Arckanum. It's like, the style is so generic, I could name tons of bands that play music like this ... Katumus, Cabalistic, Neizbezhnost', Righteous Wrath ... but none of these bands have the atmosphere of that album. The only band I can think of right now with a similar atmosphere is Sabactâni, but he plays post-black. Inquisition - Ira Divina, certain songs by Arch of Thorns, Dark Endless, Tertullian, maybe Atarot, Darkaliel, Hazeroth, there are a lot of bands that sound like this in the South American scene Skipping through that Deathspell Omega EP, it also seems there are a lot of bands that sound like that in the South American scene. I'd recommend just looking around this thread and looking at the South American coutnries. Unless there's something I'm missing by skipping around? I don't know, this Deathspell Omega EP, like the Inquisition song, just sounds like standard black metal to me.
