No Slechtvalk thread? I'm on mobile, which I don't uae as well as off, so maybe I'm missing something.
1) Main Topic of Thread: Slechvtalk is amazing. 2) The question I currently have is regarding the options to buy their second album. There are a few cassettes I think, stupidly expensive CDs, and o' plenty vinyls. Do you know if the vinyl for TWTPTL includes any digital? I'm thinking not.

I got it on CD for pretty reasonable from Amazon, but that was a few years ago. The vinyl from Amazon is a little more expensive but you automatically get the digital. I've done this with several albums (Bossk was the latest and it works well as long as you occasionally use Amazon music). Alternatively, you could get the digital and vinyl elsewhere and maybe save a few bucks. Worth owning in my opinion. Perhaps I'll try to sell my CD copy and make a few bucks

In my opinion, The War that Plagues the Lands is not very good compared to the rest of Slechtvalk's work. At the Dawn of War and Falconry are both much better. Anyway, I found the CD version of the second album on eBay I think, and it wasn't too expensive (maybe $25), but I think what holyabbatoir suggested is the best idea.

It's still an important piece in their evolution from a one man project to where they are today and worth owning, especially for diehards like warbound But yes, the weakest album of the 5.

I must admit that I don't have their latest Output - despite that, I own the CD-Versions of all their other works - and I have to take up the cudgels for The War that plagues the Lands: it is way better than At the Dawn of War! [headbang]
BTW: Slechtvalk had some Songs up for download - especially one untitled from the Falconry era - their was a Link on Facebook, I think... do you guys have that? are you interested?

www.discogs.com/sell/item/456275687Does not have a digital code with this vinyl but for a brand spanking new vinyl this is a good price. Any record player that can hook to your pc will allow you to make a nice clean digital copy of this album for your mp3 player. That is what I did on this album. I bought the vinyl then put it on to my pc using Nero but Audacity works just as well and it is free.

I bought TWTPTL in a local secular/public CD shop about 10 years ago.
It was my first CBM album together with ATDOW. I always considered The War that Plagues the Lands better than At the Dawn of War. Mostly because the sound was more reminiscent to secular BM bands back then I guess. Now I am more matured in musical taste I consider them to be equal as good.
Though, War of the Ancients probably will be one of my all time favourite CBM songs . Even if it was just for the sake of nostalgia.

Loving the new album, which i finally picked up. Has a nice return to the old sound but with something new. The War that plagues the land is still my favourite of theres, have the CD and vinyl. I remember finding Slechtvalk on line long before falconry came out, you could hear samples there, i was so looking forward to the first album coming out.

There was a time, back in the day, that I had a decent level of interaction with Shamgar and Slechtvalk. It would have been onthe old "Art for the Ears" message board, around the time of TWTPTL.
I'm VERY disconnected since those bygone days......

That's cool Pretty much every forum you mention (e..g, Blabberboard or something like that), I have no idea what it is It's also nifty that you were pals with ol' Shamgar.

I have no idea what it is If you've ever Googled old bands like Armageddon Holocaust or Duister Maanlicht etc you've probably come across Art for the Ears. The site is still there, but not really active anymore: www.artfortheears.nl/

Well, it's that time again -- the time to gush about how good Slechtvalk is. (also exo you should consider reconnecting with the homies -- I am a strong proponent of randomly getting back in touch with people, even if it is just a text/email that takes .23 milliseconds to write). Alright, there are unorganized thoughts: - A Forlorn Throne is my favorite album in their discography for sure. It's just ... SO GOOD. Falconry is probably my least favorite, with the other three being pretty closely clumped together in between.
- Their story-telling is phenomenal. I'll probably print out their darklyrics page and read it like a book. I want Sir Christopher Lee to come back from the dead and narrate it as an audiobook.
- 'Forsaken' off of A Forlorn Throne is particularly glorious. It has lovely, lovely blast beats.
- Christian bands that deal with fantasy-based warfare themes inspire me to stay on my path and do the Lord's work He has given me to do.

I remember looking everywhere a few years back for TWTPTL. I could only find the cassette for sale. It's the only unblack cassette I own. The album eventually became a 10 dollar digital on itunes years later.

'Forsaken' off of A Forlorn Throne is particularly glorious. It has lovely, lovely blast beats. And with the beautiful, melodic ending to said song: "Torn by guilt, broken to the core, don't I deserve more? I should have followed your rule, oh Father, I feel like a fool."

Spent about a week recently listening to "Where Wandering Shadows and Mists Collide." Somehow this album never sunk in when I originally got it. The thing is amazing!
This sounds really foolish but I think I disliked the opening track "We Are" so much that it just killed the whole experience for me. It was plain, rolling death metal. The shouting chorus right from the start was so off putting! This time I ignored it altogether, skipped it every time and thoroughly enjoyed the rest. An incredible album with absolutely fantastic production. I wish I would have recognized how good this was from the start. I still think that track is terrible (by comparison) and horribly unrepresentative of the rest of the album. Too bad it was the opening lyric video and the first track on the album.

frozenfire dude! I am 100% with you. I also let the anomalous "We Are" perturb me far too much. It's a little strange to me that they chose that song as the single, it being so non representative. But yes, this album kills!

frozenfire _General agreement on most fronts here, gents. HOWEVER, big dumb death metal being my guilty pleasure, I absolutely love “We Are” and blast the heck out of it whenever it comes on. I’ll imagine the dudes in the band just wanted to do a song they could have fun with, ala “Twilight of the Thunder God”. I have absolutely no basis for this other than my own speculation, but I can only eat vegetarian* so long before I break down and have a freaking bacon cheeseburger. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for doing a really fun song that might get their music out to a different audience. *Absolutely nothing wrong with being vegetarian, vegan, etc if that’s your jam.

Bartimaeus well-thought, good sir. death metal is not too high on my list of go-to genres, so that mightve veiled me from perceiving them to just be writing a fun song, which does seem right in my thinking too.

Bartimaeus _ I agree with that as a probable purpose. I listened to it today after making this post. It's definitely made to be an "anthem" of sorts. I love me some Bolt Thrower, Obituary, some of the best Amon Amarth material (not as a big of an AA fan as the other two), all of which I would classify as classic "big dumb death metal" but their best tracks are legendary and stick with me. "We Are" just doesn't go anywhere for me. It would be a poor filler track on the aforementioned bands albums for my taste. Great solo, tight playing but there's no meat in there for me. Truly it's not actually terrible but it's the weakest link by a notable margin for me and I definitely care for it opening the album.

I actually really liked "We Are". Then again, I don't know a whole lot of Slechtvalk songs and can't compare it too much to their previous output. Listening to it just as "a song I found on the internet", though, I liked it a lot.
