I've emailed DC. Its "game on" for the Fallen Oak release of Vol 2. For those unfamiliar, Vol. 1 was a compilation, professionally pressed, featuring artists from this forum! It was one heck of a way to celebrate this forum's 2 years of existence, and will once again be great to celebrate our 3rd year here with Vol. 2! I'm announcing this to give us plenty of time. Myself, like others, would like to create an exclusive track for this release. I haven't discussed the details entirely with DC yet, but the forum anniversary is late January. The last comp was released a month later, and of the pressing of 100 copies, SOLD OUT during the pre-order! For the time being, like the last comp, it would be best to have 1 submission per forum artist, and a song with approximately a 5 minute running time. If we don't have enough submissions to fill the disc, then we can entertain multiple submissions from those of us who have multiple music projects. Any questions? Comments? Let me know. If I don't know the answer, I'll ask DC. :B Thanks guys!

Of course I plan to appear on this, but I'm not going to say anything more yet -- I know how my mind works by now, and my plans are going to change at least a hundred times before I actually get a song submitted Might be Bozkath, might be some other project I haven't even started yet, who knows.

I will most likely not be able to be active here around the time of the actual anniversary, but I could contribute one of the nearly-completed tracks from one of my side projects, assuming 6-7 minutes in running time would be acceptable.

I will most likely not be able to be active here around the time of the actual anniversary That's fine. The first comp still contained contributions from "no posters", guests and former board members. I wouldn't think 6-7 minutes would be too much of a problem, but it all depends on how many total people we have jump in on this.

Hey guys! To reiterate what Thomas said, Hymns of the Blackest Light Volume II is a go! I'm open for submissions at this email address: vialsofwrath@yahoo.com If possible send all tracks, inquiries and info there as I'm unable to login to social media and this forum as much as I'd like. I travel a good deal for my job and also have limited time check all of my social media accounts. I'm going to push for a March/April 2018 release. Pre-orders will be announced once all tracks are in and solidified. As before, slots will be on a first come/submitted basis (as long as there are no quality issues). Once the allotted time for one CD is full, that will be the cut-off point. In the event that all tracks are not in, or the time of 72 minutes has not been reached, by February 1, this will be the official deadline. I'm trying to give time to all bands/artists, and still have ample time for CD production and mailing, along with any unforeseen mishaps. A few online stores also want to pick up copies for distribution (same as last year). I've already been in contact with a professional illustrator to do a custom cover for this album, however if anyone on this forum is a visual artist as well (draw, paint, photography) and would like to place something on the inside or back cover, please contact me and provide a link to view your work. I would like to promote that too if possible! Finally, I'm looking at options for making a shirt available with the cover art on the front, and all participating band's logos on the back. Not sure of the cost yet, but for a 2-sided print most of what I've found runs around $18-22. If this is something you all would be interested in, let me know and I'll pursue it a little more… On a side note, I apologize for my lapse in dropping by here; I've been laying low and working really hard on a new Vials album. It's in the final stages now, and I'm pushing hard for a release date sometime this winter. Thanks and God bless!!

Thomas would it be okay for me to do a drone track? I have a project ready for this type of track. I would be satisfied with 5 minutes

thevociferator, Heck yeah bro. Drone fits in with the comp's overall "theme", IMO.

I've been stirring stirring stirring these ideas for an Orationem track. ...and an accompanying music video to boot...
The iron's not hot enough yet, but soon.... very soon.

I've completed the drums for the exclusive Orationem track for this comp. Not sure if I'll tackle guitars today or not.... we'll just have to see how this day plays out.

Exo mentioned in the Random Thoughts about PC problems. I had the same thing. I was going to sit down and finish my track yesterday, but my PC crashed and a disc repair took damn near all day, but... I'm up and running again. My Orationem track is DONE. Finished it today. Affectionately named "The Blackest Light". ...its 5:59 in running time (I hope that's not a problem) and STILL feels kind of short? ....but I think that's an illusion of sorts because I packed a TON of riffs into this song. Dare I say its a little on the technical side? A little more than the usual Orationem at least. Progressive too. Not happy, but... kinda like Schaliach where you get whiplashed between happy and sad sounding riffs if that makes any sense. Also, the lyrics are a little off the usual format. Really, only half the lyrics are the prayer part to God, the other half is more of a "statement" to the listener(s). ....sort of.... Dunno, just came out that way. Anyway, what's on the agenda for tomorrow, my wife and I are going to take a trip and I'm going to try to get some video footage for this. I think this will be more like a lyric video than a music video, but I'm planning on doing a little more than just footage with subtitles. I'm gonna fancy it up a bit. If that doesn't pan out, I'll move on to plan B.... whatever that is. I'm going to try to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and make this both a new years track and of course, the track for this comp. (which is very similar to last year except then I made the track for the new year, but used it for the comp. This year, I made the track for the comp, but I'll also use it for a new years track.) Is there really any difference? Yeah, probably not. XD Anyone wanna hear the track? I'll post or PM a link to the track if you guys REALLY want to hear it. ...but I'll save the lyrics for the New Years unveiling. (that will add a little mystery to it) LOL

I would be interested in hearing it.
I have decided I will use the first movement of an upcoming Sentinel Mysterium track for the compilation. It will be a bit over three minutes long, so it will not be too long, and I feel it would be best for me to use a track from the same project as last time. The full track will probably be in the range of 8-10 minutes in length.

Actually, I could use some input on the mix if anyone is willing. From my PC loudspeakers and headphones, sounds just fine. From my phone? The drum kicks Chuck Norris everything else to bits in the mix... Moreso when the song picks up later into it. I would greatly appreciate it. Just balance/mix suggestions please. I don't want to re-record anything. Or just enjoy it if you like it. www.orationem.com/(song link removed) :B

Wow, the track is awesome. Really love the atmosphere & riffing. The mix sounds fine to me, although the cymbals (might be the ride) pierces out of the mix at some point but nothing too major in my book.

Thanks bros. My Christmas was good but challenging. I went into more detail about it in the prayer for my health thread. XD Yeah. The ride being too loud has been in about every recording I've ever done with real drums. Not sure if you can see in the black metal prayer videos, but I taped a packet of note cards to the ride, which dulled it down considerably... But it still manages to cut through everything I throw at it to make it quieter. Of course I could always use more than 1 mic to record an entire drum set... But that would require resources that i don't have at the moment, plus overkill for the higher end of lo-fi black metal. XD LOL I think I might lower the drums some / raise the guitar / whatever it needs... Dunno yet. Just a couple decibel change... Nothing major at all. Just enough to let the rest of the song breath a little more. That will be a little project over a cup of coffee in the morning... If I went with just my own ears, I would have probably kicked most of the drums out. [rofl] So I appreciate the input.

Yeah, the mix sounds pretty much fine to me, but then again, I listen to 10+ minute static samples for enjoyment, so maybe my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt If I had to suggest anything, maybe you're right, maybe the drums should be lowered just a tiny bit to give the guitars a bit more room to breathe. (Or raise the guitars, etc)

I, unfortunately, have been at "dead stop" for a month. Between the computer issues, not having the finances to take care of that, the OTHER bs that's broken loose (dryer issues, van springing a radiator leak, etc) on top of work, I've basically gone into complete shutdown mode if it wasn't "work" or "sleep". Gonna be a close thing to get what I have envisioned accomplished at this point. Do-able, but I will be VERY glad to be out of the ridiculous cloud of work stress this holiday season has been. Worst one in my 20 years wth the company.

maybe the drums should be lowered just a tiny bit to give the guitars a bit more room to breathe. (Or raise the guitars, etc) In the true spirit of metal in general, I will opt for making something louder than lowering the volume of something. [dancing] I listen to 10+ minute static samples for enjoyment, so maybe my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt Bravo! I do something very similar. ....except mine are of the 10 hour variety and I probably stop "listening" to it after a half hour, but it keeps playing. [rofl] That will be a little project over a cup of coffee in the morning... I obsess about my music too much to do that. I made the change now and replaced the track. Should be mostly thru it, I can feel my mood shifting already. "Backup plan" for tracking is in place, will hopefully get that done Friday afternoon/evening, the guitar parts are very simple, I should honestly be able to knock it out in short order.

I liked the track and it's definitely in the realm of what you discussed. I could almost compare it to Mourning Woods of Michael. My suggestion though would be to maybe change the EQ of the guitar so it's not so muddy (but I know you like the mud). And I don't really think your vocals fit with this. I think I managed to figure out what they sound like to me: Abbath.

I don't see an "almost" with a Morning Woods comparison, or that the vocals are Abbath-ish...
I try not to copy Mortuus from Marduk's vocal style exactly, but - that's what sounds good to me since they sound more anguished than most black metal vox. (Kind of a "undead agony" sound if I was going to describe it to a layman.)

I think it's just that it has a similar vibe, feeling, or atmosphere even though the instrumentation is different.
And I'll have to check out some Marduk.

Hey everyone! Wanted to give an update on the comp… Contributions are starting to come in. So far we have tracks from Synkretismos Mutare , Glavkdur, Through The Thorns, Orationem, and myself (Vials of Wrath). I've talked with a couple of other bands, but they're not ready to commit just yet. I'm pushing to have this ready for distribution and to sell by the end of March – same as last year. In doing so, the Feb. 1st deadline is still pretty solid. However, with that being less than a month out, I don't have many submissions yet. So if we don't have enough to fill the album by then, I may extend it further. After having so many great bands on it last year, we need to try to match that if at all possible. Also wanted to reveal the artwork. This is an original custom piece from a fan/friend of mine who posts stuff on Deviantart.com. He works with watercolor and ink, and did this on a very inexpensive commission. I'm considering doing digipacks this time, but the downside to them is limited space for lyrics and other notes and/or art. Looking into options and costs; I'll let everyone here know once the time comes. Any questions or comments, hit me up in an email ( vialsofwrath@yahoo.com), or on a Facebook Message, as those are the two quickest ways to reach me. I'll be doing my best to get on here at least once a week between now and the deadline for the comp as well. I think that's it for now. God bless and get those songs in!
