This has been on my heart for awhile. This site is pretty much the de-facto place for CBM right now. There were numerous forums before, as I'm learning from archive.org -- forums for specific bands, general places like Blabberboard, and more. But most of those forums have closed down, or aren't strictly focused, in any regard, on CBM. Meanwhile we're releasing yearly compilations with exclusive tracks and worldwide distribution, promoting the forum on various websites, etc.
The spam we got before was quite low - as I recall, only one post per day, at its absolute worst. That's just a consequence of having a place where content can be added, be it a forum or a social media site or a comment section. And given the increasingly significant role this site plays in the scene (not to mention all the worthwhile discussion about the scene itself and the theology surrounding it), it seems like it'd be worth enabling guest viewing / posting again, in exchange for a bit of potential spam we can easily manage.
Thoughts?

Allow me to be “real” and “blunt” for a moment:
Our truly active membership is in the neighborhood of 10 people, give or take. If WE are truly the “hub” for CBM.....then there is a PROBLEM....and there isn’t really a scene......
I don’t have an issue with re-opening the board to “guest posting”......but I do question the idea that there is a “need” to do so for the good of “the scene”. If someone can’t be bothered to register an account, something inside of me says that speaks VOLUMES.

” If someone can’t be bothered to register an account, something inside of me says that speaks VOLUMES. Agreed. I know I'm still the new guy around here, but I dig this forum and check it every day. Forums are more personal, IMO. If you can't be bothered to register, then maybe this isn't the place for you. There's quite a few CBM groups on Facebook that you can join.

If someone can’t be bothered to register an account, something inside of me says that speaks VOLUMES. You're remembering that guests also can't VIEW the forum, right? If you can't be bothered to register, then maybe this isn't the place for you. lolwut How is this forum "not" "for" people who don't register? Even if guests could view the forum (which again, they can't) what could possibly give us the right to view a Christian forum with any kind of exclusivity, outside of the few examples strictly outlined in scripture? Edit 2: Keep in mind also, we used to have several regular visitors who didn't register at all, or only registered after a long time. I struggle to think of names right now, but there were several. That "doom-" guy comes to mind. Doommaster maybe? The point is, there's a precedent for what I'm saying.

I see both sides of it honestly.
Exo's point was that if people don't even want to register for a Christian black metal forum, well.... they're probably not going to be awesome contributors to this community. Also, registering involves an email, a password and an email verification - not hard to do, not a long process either...
I also see NI's point. "Registration only" isn't quite the best invitation ever. I also understand, people probably want to look around before they commit. I have been guilty of seeing a forum about a topic I'm interested in, and walking the other way when registration is required - ala. "eh, its probably dead there anyway" without ever really knowing.
Right or wrong, I just now allowed for guests to post and view the forum again. If this place turns into a spamfest in a matter of days, I'm going back to registration only...

Wasn't it my fault in the first place for "catfishing" a thread I was posting on for humurous purposes, or those long - really long - posts as a guest with my former account before I created the unblackheart albums and started anew based on the experimental unblack horror I was making. I haven't done it since, and I think it was my fault in the first place, sorry...

Like, companies (or people impersonating companies, I don't know) making accounts solely to advertise products / spam links / etc

Nobody that is a “regular” here was/is the reason for the previous switch.
