This is my all-time favorite melodic death band. They've very popular, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of you have heard of them.

Ah I used to love these guys! Since then, my tastes have changed some and I no longer listen to them. Jari is a very good song writer and talented musician.

Love them. ...even though they got soft on last years album. (yeah, another band that after 9 years FINALLY does another release - HAHA!!!)
Still, my favorite song of theirs. Ever. ...probably because its VERY symphonic.

I honestly didn't enjoy Time I nearly as much as the debut. That first album was such a masterpiece, and the second album seemed to lack the epic feeling that the debut did. Sons of Winter and Stars was the only song that I actually liked on there.

I've only heard the S/T which got a lot of spins from me fifteen years ago. It's hard to beat the back half of that album. Once "Death and the Healing" kicks in it's quite entrancing. I have a lot of good memories from listening to it. I was a big fan of the first two Ensiferum albums as well and I've continued to listen to these three albums to this day. Due to my hiatus from metal, I never checked out the later Wintersun stuff, but I plan to do that at some point.

I like a small handful of Wintersun songs, but all the others I've heard are boring to me. They shouldn't be considering the style they're in, but they just... are, for some reason.
I also can't explain why I like some songs but not others.

I want to like "The Forest Seasons", but it's painfully boring to me. Edit: Although I do like this, which I forgot about until now. From "Time I", I like "Sons of Winter and Stars", and "Darkness and Frost". From the first album... I haven't really listened to it much, I probably should, but it seems hit or miss overall.

I think the general consensus is that the first album is the best. I haven't really listened to the ones after that. Try the second half of the self-titled starting with "Death and the Healing."

It's decent imo. Not the masterpiece people seem to think it is.

It's decent imo. Not the masterpiece people seem to think it is. I'm probably a little biased because I bought the CD as a teenager and loved it and have been listening to it for 15 years. It reminds me of a lot of good times. I feel the same way about the first two Ensiferum albums, but I do actually prefer them musically. If you are interested in something in the same style that might be a cut above Wintersun you might check those out.

I only know one song by Ensiferum. I like it musically, but overall I've gotten away from pagan stuff over the years.
Have you ever noticed that if you turn Ensiferum's logo upside down, it almost looks like "Wintersun"?
