I have been listening to Taking the Head of Goliath. Luke Renno from Crimson Thorn is in that. Its good stuff. Some people might consider it "slam death metal" but it sounds plenty deathy to me.
My only wish is that they had more than just 1 release out. ....but something is better than nothing!

I'm not a huge fan of TTHOG's music, but they are awesome live. Stylistically it's just not the kind of thing I enjoy listening to, but it makes for a fun concert.

Both Sacrificium and Melech have some new stuff out and, lets just say I'm pleased.

Kenneth Holsen is back to releasing music! For his first new album, we have a new "Turn to Christ" album. It's basically death metal, but the guitars are played in a somewhat experimental style.

Max (Shadow Puncher)'s Walking Through the Storm is now on Bandcamp! If you like more "progressive"(?) death metal, CHECK THIS OUT FOR SURE.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was there. The sound quality at the gig I attended was abysmal. Every band except Living Sacrifice had that horrible fake kick drum sound which drowned out everything else. It became very apparent whenever the drummer's kicks were off-sync. Crimson Thorn stopped one song in the middle because they forgot how to play it. It probably wasn't that bad of a gig, but it was right as the coronavirus was starting and I had a headache, so I wasn't in a good mood.

I saw the tour too and I had a good time. I get what you're saying about that fake kick drum sound, but I don't remember any significant issues at the stop I went to. Crimson Thorn sounded good and Living Sacrifice really got the crowd pumped. It was nice to meet the guys from those groups. It would be cool if they'd add one of the more aggressive black metal bands like Crimson Moonlight to this tour in the future.

Keep in mind that I also had a headache the whole time, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I normally would have. Seeing Crimson Moonlight on the Hasten Revelation Tour would be amazing. Their performance at Audiofeed last year was spectacular. It's too bad that so many of the really good Christian black metal bands are from Scandinavia, or have members spread out all across different countries or states.

Does anyone know any good Christian death metal bands? Bands I already know and how I feel about them: A Hill to Die Upon--love them. Technically "blackened death." Broken Flesh--great live, not my thing. Vocals are too deep. Abated Mass of Flesh--same Cardiac Rupture--same Taking the Head of Goliath--same Groms--as far as I remember, I like this band, but I'll need to give them another listen. Mortification--Scrolls of the Megilloth leaves me cold. Maybe it's just not left-field enough for me. Monotheist (early)--love it except for the gurgling vocals on a few songs. Angel 7--the closest thing to Amon Amarth in the Christian scene. Like it a lot.

A Hill to Die Upon--love them. Technically "blackened death." Broken Flesh--great live, not my thing. Vocals are too deep. Agree and agree. I don't go for the guttural vocals much. I don't listen to a ton of death metal, but there are lots of bands out there. Others will have better suggestions. Mortification--Scrolls of the Megilloth leaves me cold. Maybe it's just not left-field enough for me. It might be difficult for us to be friends. Monotheist (early)--love it except for the gurgling vocals on a few songs. Yes - agreed! When I do listen to death, I mostly go for the progressive stuff: Extol (depending on the album, they're more thrash or black). Fleshkiller (vocals veer toward 'core). 7 Horns 7 Eyes (full length; tech death; have one of my desert island tracks (is that a thing?); veers toward djent). I enjoy Deus Invictus sometimes. I enjoy In Vain. Not a Christian band, but supposedly Christian members? I like Aletheian, though there's too much power metal for me usually. I like Sanctifica's Negative B, but it's very strange. If you can tolerate 'core seeping into your prog. death, then I really like some of Becoming the Archtype's stuff. I really enjoy In Grief's album. Sometimes I enjoy Hope for the Dying. Pantokrator scratches an itch sometimes, especially Aurum. I've heard them described as progressive, but I wouldn't say they are. One album that is supposedly old school that I really enjoy is Bloodwork. They seem (at least somewhat) blackened to me. I like Sacrificium sometimes. Dagon is more hybrid, but has another of my desert island tracks. I don't go seeking bass drops, but the one in that track is killer imo. Never get tired of it. Sympathy plays some great tech death. There are several melodeath bands I like. Can discuss those if you're interested.

Blood Thristy is great tech death. I also want to plug Hilastherion and Deuteronomium as At the Gates-lite. Melech is like Pantokrator but with less prog elements, great straight-forward, very tasty DETH. Revulsed is tech death, not Christian, but the songwriter is a Christian and uses gore/horror tropes to get Christian themes past those watchful dragons. Death Requisite is symphonic blackened death and the last two albums (LP and EP) are awesome. I love death metal.

I forgot about Death Requisite and how good they are. I wish they would do another album with better production.

If you like the old school death metal sound (kind of like Groms) try Deracination, Pale Horse, Red Ink, early Sacrificium, and Hearken.
Crimson Thorn - Unearthed is probably the greatest Christian DM record. Mortification is right up there as well (though very different in sound). I prefer the S/T and Post Momentary Affliction over Scrolls (more Thrash and other elements). Another all-time favorite is Sympathy - Arcane Path. The bands on the "Chords of the Grave" compilation are also all fantastic brutal death metal (Obliteration, Oblation, etc.) Implement and Azorrague are very good new DM bands.
If you like symphonic DM like Monotheist try Renascent (which I like more).
If you want something like early Amon Amarth try later Holy Blood. If you're looking for general melodic DM try Schaliach and Immortal Souls. Lament is also somewhat in that style.

More fun with Transcending Obscurity bands and their recently released albums; Diskord--really enjoyed the song I heard from them, want to give the whole album a listen. Replicant--this guy's scream is really weird. Throws off the band for me. Bizarre--I like anything Lovecraft, so I had to check this out. I wasn't bowled over, but I'm not against giving it another chance. Monument of Misanthropy--This was labeled "Brutal Death Metal," but surprisingly, I liked it. It didn't have the gurgly vocala I associate with brutal death.
And also:"Picture of Decay" by Atvm. Normally these genre-bending projects ("It's jazz-funk-melo-prog-death") are gimmicky, but this one waa actually really solid. I want to listen to the whole album now.
Disclaimer: None of these bands are Christian.

Navigating this is tricky and really depends on your own personal boundaries about what is too violent or what kind of violence bothers you (I'm more OK with violent depictions of war than with serial killer stuff which bugs me).
I would say to check out Obituary's first album because they didn't actually write lyrics and most of it is made up of random words mixed with sounds.
The first couple Gorguts albums are pretty good OSDM with surprisingly decent lyrics. I thought the lyrics would be like Autopsy or Carcass bad but they really aren't objectionable to me.
Malevolent Creation might have some material that works for you on the second and third albums in particular.
Six Feet Under has some very violent lyrics but also some that aren't and the first two albums are very good. You might try individual songs like "Beneath a Black Sky."
After the first album, Death's lyrics are mostly social commentary type of stuff. The music becomes more progressive going forward (especially beginning with Human).
If you like Death's progressive stuff you might look into Pestilence and the third Atheist album (which has no objectionable lyrics despite the band's name).
I've been going through a journey of finding DM that fits my criteria and these are some of the things that worked for me.

Abated Mass of Flesh's The Existence of Human Suffering slaps! \m/ I've been wondering. Are their last 2 albums even Christian? I know at least one of the band members isn't anymore, and there aren't any overt/obvious references to Christianity. (Cryptic Rising is now secular for example.)
