Hi everybody! I am asking for your help. My wife and I do pray before our shared supper. For that we have like two books with special food prayers in it. We now have them for like four years and we have certainly prayed every prayer in it many times... So I came up with the idea to create a now book of our own and collect for that various prayers from all over the world. Since in our books here are more common and classic food prayers, I'd like to find some that are not so familiar and classic. (I also would not mind if they are not in a conventional sense "christian". Don't get me wrong, I would not add prayers that pray to another god or so. But I'd be happy to find some prayers, that are more like poems or act like an impulse for own thoughts. By now I also collected some "prayers" that where more a kind of humanist and secular quote for the table. I changed them a bit to make them suitable).
So... here's my request: I would be very happy, if you could share with me some of your table prayers. Maybe some of you wrote some of their own? That would be even greater, because so they are certainly not standard stuff... Thank you in advance!

One time I was praying for food with my family. I prayed something like, "God bless this delicious meal," then opened my eyes and realized it was Hamburger Helper. To this day I no longer pray out loud for food because I will think of this and laugh.

One time I was praying for food with my family. I prayed something like, "God bless this delicious meal," then opened my eyes and realized it was Hamburger Helper. To this day I no longer pray out loud for food because I will think of this and laugh. Its interesting how personal experience can influence something like this. My take on it is unfortunately less funny than yours, but years ago when I was drinking and homeless (they go hand in hand), a hot meal was hard to come by. So was perishable food - like meat, milk, etc. Or any food not in a can. I remember a few years after I recovered, but still a few years ago, I was served some eggs that were burnt so bad they almost tasted like peanuts. Yet I was still "Dear Lord, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS MEAL!!!!". Even to this day, I'm so grateful for being able to prepare food, and have regular hot meals. I would be very happy, if you could share with me some of your table prayers. I remember a fun table prayer from when I was a kid. Parents actually smiled when this was the prayer. "Rub a dub dub. Thanks for the grub. Yay God!" That's it. A good example of fun very-informal gratitude prayer I think.

Wow, you pray before the meal....that's beatiful. Love it. People read short biographies of the saints sometimes.
