Please use this thread to post Bible verses. Commentary is not required, but its certainly allowed. Ideally, this is for inspiration and Christian guidelines.... verses-for-laughs are also welcome. If you post a verse, please state the version of the Bible you're using. (NIV, KJV, ESV, etc etc - all versions welcomed, just please label it) This thread is NOT intended for debate or theology wars. Questions and opinions are fine, criticism of others for their opinions/beliefs is not. I'll start! _________________________________ For me, this below is the answer regarding personal conviction. While the one example listed has to do with diet, I think its very applicable to other scenarios. What comes to mind, especially on this forum, is convictions and questions related to music. (ie: can Christians listen to non-Christian music?) Ironically, the title of the section I'm pulling these verses from is called "The Danger of Criticism".

Double dip. I'm a fan of very strange WTF verses in the Bible. Oh there's plenty... Deliberately taken out of context, without explaining the WHY, can be good for a laugh. (or confusing others, which again - is good for a laugh/jokes) A recent favorite of mine....

See how your brothers are getting along, and bring back a report on how they are doing." -- 1 Samuel 17:18 NLT I don't remember this verse, I just found it on the side of the BibleHub page: "Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese?" -- Job 10:10 ESV

I really enjoy the simplicity of a verse in Psalm 56: "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." ESV

I can relate to the last part. "He does great things that we cannot comprehend". The word used here in the german version can also mean "big". It`s more neutral. Sometimes I see things that don't make sense for me. I think it is important to keep in mind that some things happening in the universe or in the life of men are beyond asking what it all means or how it happened and why. Off course one can think about it, but some things will stay hidden. For my personal faith it is important to keep in mind God's hidden sides. We know the things about God which he has chosen to show us. But there are aspects which we are to small to understand.

I like how Christ lists two commandments as the greatest, but a 3rd is implied. We are to love our God, love each other and love ourselves. Love love love!

Here’s another verse that’ll make you do a double-take, from Psalm 137:9, to wit:
O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, Happy the one who repays you as you have served us! Happy the one who takes and dashes Your little ones against the rock!

Liked turtles since my first day in "kindergarten". Because my coat hanging place had a turtle sticker on it. Wanted to get one as well, but carring for them is a pain in the butt(who´d imagine)

*turtle screaming intensifies* This is just awesome! I don't know if I posted it before, but Luther translated something in the Psalms with something like "God save us from the wrath of the unicorns", which I find awesome. Beware of your local angry black metal unicorn!

Ha, just researched into the matter of psalmic unicorns. While Psalm 22,21 nowadays is translated (in the English Standard Version. Note: it is verse 22 in the german Luther translation): , Martin Luther back then translated "...and from the unicorns". Hey, Martin, what is wrong with just sticking to the wild oxen?

Research I've done on this: A lot of people have mistakenly translated the Hebrew word "re'em" as "unicorn", leading some to think unicorns are mentioned in the Bible. In reality "re'em" refers to some sort of normal, everyday animal. I can't remember if it's "oxen" or some other animal in the Bible, but it's the same basic idea.
Apparently there is an unidentified animal that was used in the making of some material used to make one of the temples (I think it was Solomon's temple?) and some people think that animal might have been a unicorn, but as far as I can tell, that's just a guess.
Personal thoughts: I really don't want to say that unicorns "never existed" because there's no proof of that, that I can recall. There's no verse that says, "Oh, the pagans before you, believed in horses with horns, you shall reject this teaching" or anything like that. It's not entirely "unbiblical" to believe in unicorns. However, since there's no mention of them, and no scientific evidence for them, it seems unlikely. Before I was born again, I did have an experience (remember: my therapists have said I'm NOT schizophrenic!) where I briefly saw a horse-like animal run across a path, and leave no tracks on the ground, leave no path in the grass, etc. I have often thought of this as a "unicorn" sighting. However I haven't seen anything like this since I turned fully back to the Christian faith. Looking at this through a Biblical view of the supernatural, I have to wonder if there have been genuine "unicorn sightings", but these unicorns were actually deceptive spirits simply appearing that way to pagans/esotericists/etc, similar to how they appear as "dead relatives" / ghosts.

That reminded me of the verse I posted here. As far as a beautiful white horse like animal with a long twisted horn, I'm thinking no on that. ...but a large animal, with hooves, that charges things, and has 1 horn between its eyes - sounds like that's what Daniel saw. Maybe what you saw.

I never noticed that verse! That's so strange.
But given it's in Daniel, I'm assuming the context around it is metaphorical / symbolic / etc not literal.
I'll have to do more research on that though
