Being a great fan of potatoes, I recently discovered the Laura potato. Maybe it is just imagination, but I find them even tastier than normal potatoes. And the red color makes them special anyway... Any more potato friends here on the board? I absolutely love potatoes but cannot have then anymore as I am doing keto currently.
I can't complain though, easiest I've EVER lost weight. No exercise, no trying to eat less or count calories.. I have felt FULL after meals.. and still maintaining/losing weight.
When I start exercising again, there will be nothing holding me back MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Any more potato friends here on the board? Yes I love potatoes. I like sweet potatoes too, prepared much the same way as regular potatoes. I am doing keto currently. My brother lost of weight doing that. So did my dad, but my dad does a "crash" version of it. (you know, lose a bunch of weight quick, stop the diet, gain it back slowly, have an "oh no!" moment and then go back to dieting again)

Yeah, I know the lose weight/gain weight routine... that's why I'm stoked to have FINALLY learned what truly adds weight: carbs. Not calories, not fat.. carbs (sugar, flour, etc.). Eliminate most of the carbs and your likelihood of gaining any weight is very slim (haha, no pun intended).
Early last year, I went from 240 lbs. to 220 lbs. over a period of a several months. I had to bust my butt to lose it though. Working out 3 times a week, recording my calories every single meal on Fitbit app, etc... then I gained it all back in summer/fall. Now I'm back down to 223 lbs. again (only 3 lbs. away from what I had lost last year) with ZERO effort (except keto lifestyle of course). It's amazing. It's not just for weight loss.. it's a very LOW inflammatory foods diet as well so it's good for overall health.

It's not just for weight loss.. it's a very LOW inflammatory foods diet as well so it's good for overall health. I agree bro. When I was in highschool, I watched my dad lose a LOT of weight, eating things like bacon and eggs every morning, and green beans and steak for lunch. I've seen this with myself too - carbs (including sugar) are so rich that the body often ends up storing some of it, even if small portions are eaten. My wife is counting calories, is often hungry, and even though she hits the gym hard several times a week, she's often breaking even or barely losing. On a separate note, slightly related, I have found a great way to make a boring can of green beans (keto diet approved ), to be quite the delicacy. What I do: - put some hot water into a sauce pan - add some spices to the water - whatever you want! Make it A BROTH. (me, I add my favorite brand of seasoning salt, a little bit of dark brown sugar, and some beef/chicken/pork stock) - taste the broth! It should taste like the broth of a soup you'd want to drink. (If its too weak, add more spices. If its too strong, drain some of it and add more hot water.) - drain the water out of the canned green beans, and add those to the broth you just made - put them covered at a low heat that still reaches boiling. (don't be heating the broth before the green beans are added. My stove burners go from 0 to 6 - and with 5 being a pretty quick boil, I went with 2.5.) - leave it alone for a half hour. If your lid doesn't have a way to let steam out, then tip it to the side a little so you don't boil over. When you check on it, it should be at a mild boil. - remove from heat, and completely drain the broth. Enjoy! I never thought I would have ever wanted to gobble down a can of green beans, but man, they're delicious made this way. The slow boil makes the broth soak into them and each green bean is bursting with flavor. This works with ANY canned veggies too - peas, corn, potatoes, carrots. I've tried them all and they were quite delicious. I rarely make my broth the same way either, for a variety in tastes. My only complaint - I can't eat more than 1 can of veggies in a day or I will be paying DEARLY with obstruction type pains. T-T

That actually sounds pretty good! I bet you could re-use the same broth for a couple days also, just keeping it in the fridge & reheating. That would make your seasonings go farther too. I might try this soon, thanks dude!

I've done this before, but I've also PLANNED to do this and ended up dumping broth that was forgotten in the fridge for a week. Since it doesn't take too many spices to season a small saucepan that's half full of water, its not a big loss to toss it either.

Yeah I don't formally 'prep' but I'll do stuff like make boiled eggs and bag them in sets of 2 to eat through the week... make a large meal and eat on it for a few days etc...

Eggs are a regular in my diet. Good protein and easy on my gut. ...but I either do mine poached, or over easy on the skillet. XD

Over medium is my preference. I don't always have time to do it though so I like to have the boiled eggs as back up.
I love to make a mushroom, onion, and cheese omelet too! So good... could add green peppers too.

I use onion powder anymore for eggs. Actual fresh diced onions of course taste better, but they like to form a barrier in my gut. Same with peppers and mushrooms.

Canned fish. Yay or nay bros? I'm not talking tuna. XD Man, I love em. Sardines and kippers - I'm eating them daily now that I'm hitting the weights and I need a good healthy protein, and lots of it. Not all brands are equal though. Bar Harbor. Oh man, they're the best. Wood-smoked wild herring or sardines. Only other ingredient is salt. Utterly delicious. 31g of Protein in 1 can is some good gains too. ...but I'm a freak though. I like them better with skin and bones. Crazy right? Everything but the head, fins and guts. Omm nom nom nom. AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! LOL

Omm nom nom nom. AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! LOL Just in the past year I tried sardines for the first time. I had to force myself to swallow (that's what she... never mind)...
The thing is, sardines is about the healthiest fish you can get. VERY low mercury. Predator fish who eat other fish have higher levels of mercury because they have their own inherent mercury PLUS the mercury of all the 'prey' they have eaten. Sardines are on the bottom of the food chain (feeding on plankton) so they are one of the most pure fish you can eat. VERY VERY good for you.
I haven't been able to start eating them regularly, but it's something I want to start doing. I might try to pan fry some with arugula and lemon juice. I think it's supposed to be good? Maybe make a 'sardine' salad with mayo etc.?
Any suggestions to make it more palatable until I can adapt to the taste?

Yeah man, herring/kippers are one of the "lower mercury" fish as well - though sardines are the winner I think, since Kippers sometimes have zooplankton in their diet. Any suggestions to make it more palatable until I can adapt to the taste? Brand makes the difference bro. I mean, I'm gross XD - I can choke down any type of sardines right out of the can and still like it relatively well.... but like I mentioned, Bar Harbor. Get that brand. Night and day difference in the taste - and its not just me that thinks they're the best out of all of them. Every Walmart I've been in has had Bar Harbor. They are more expensive than the other types, but that makes total sense to me. You get what you pay for. I've done the "sardine/kipper salad" before - like tossing them in a bowl, Miracle Whip, some shredded cheese and bread crumbs - its ok.... but I still prefer them right out of the can for the most part. :B

Do you 'chop' them up or just fork a fishy and chomp down? Do you get them in water or oil? Salt them or no?

We keep our canned foods on these shelves that are right inside the door that goes down to the basement. Its maybe a little difference to room temperature. I open the sardines - peel the "lid" back about halfway. Pour the liquid out. Then I fork fish to my face - right out of the can. Omm nom nom nom. I'm always a little sad when the can is empty. XD

so do you get them in water or oil? The Bar Harbor ones I pick up - the only ingredients listed are: Wood-smoked wild herring/sardines, salt. Not sure if its water, oil or oily water in the can, but its in there - and I pour it out. I don't drink it - like I do tuna. XD

Well, I went to three different supermarkets this weekend and no luck. I cannot find Bar Harbor brand. I can order it from Walmart.com and have it shipped to a local store though. I might try that soon because you have me very curious.

Since this talk about canned fish started, I couldn't help getting me some canned sardines and eat them. I am grateful that my wife, even though she's a vegan, does not critisize me for eating fish again. Maybe I will stop it again in some time, but right now I do not only enjoy the taste of fish but also think that it benefits my health. I think it is a shame though, that canned fish mostly comes marinated in oil. Right now I have a favourite brand, called "Phare d'Eckmühl", which is sold at our local health food store. They have them "naturelle", which means the sardines are marinated in lemon juice and salt. I would love if the company would just leave the salt out or reduce it, but I am quite happy, that "my" sardines do not come marinated in oil.

Anyone here in for salmon and/or trouts? Last weekend I (for, I believe, the first time in my life) fried some salmon filets, which we had with pasta and green asparagus. Quite tasty! My next cooking project in fish will (I hope) be baked trout.

I love smoked salmon, but I hated paying the primo price for it at the grocery store. Well, last year my wife got me a Traeger grill (a smoker grill for dummies, basically) and now I get to enjoy smoked salmon as often as I want plus, it makes great burgers, chicken, etc. I love salmon in general though, any way that I can get it.

Well, I was gonna post more pics than this of one of last week’s grilling adventures......but postimages doesn’t like me, so we’re just gonna go with the three file attachments thing..... What we have here here is a sirloin tip roast, just under 3lb that I made a Greek-ish stuffing for then cooked on a charcoal grill using indirect heat and hickory chips, for about 4 1/2 hours to a nice medium rare. The bread is a ciabatta round that I scored and put the rest of the leftover stuffing into, then covered in mozzarella and baked 275 to melt the cheeses. stuffing was 4oz of goat cheese crumbles, a package of frozen chopped spinach a tablespoon of olive oil, a package of sun dried tomatoes and a can of olives, chopped in halves. Made it up off the top of my head with no recipe, and ended up with 4x as much filling as I needed.....

Is anybody else here seriously addicted to Tabasco sauce? I just LOVE this stuff! 🌶️ For hotness, I usually go with Frank's ReHot. Tabasco is tasty too. I don't know if there's any "tabasco like" sauce available in Germany except tabasco... The traditional german food is not that spicey-hot. A shame... But what to do when you live in the middle ages and for some stupid reason peppers don't seem to grow around you, so you are forced to develop a traditional cousin without this glorious stuff... haha. These days I am quite into fish and eggs (not eaten together, though). I keep telling me that my body is responding to my training sessions and needs maybe the proteins and fats for building up muscles. Can't say though. But I really like dishes with fish, and also some hard-boiled eggs.
