Today's work out. 245lbs x 7 245lbs x 7 245lbs x 7 3 sets of 7 with 275lbs on the flat bench today. Are you serious? 30lbs on my bench from February 12th to March 12th? Man... I am happy about that.

So I watched a video last night of Dwayne Johnson doing shoulder shrugs: 3 sets. 25 f-ing reps. 315 f-ing pounds! Maybe I'm just a noob, but it was jaw-dropping to watch. That guy is a monster.

At least my workouts are going better than me posting about said workouts in this thread. Even though I lifted Saturday (one of my flat bench sets was 9 reps of 275lbs) I decided to trot over to the gym to "shock" my muscles. Threw on 350lbs on a machine (easier) and did 3 sets of 5.

275lbs for 9 reps, 8 reps, 8 reps - for 3 sets on the flat bench. Did some squats and curls as well. Middle of my 2nd set, feels like a muscle was starting to pull? Maybe a cramp? Not sure. My pain tolerance is terrible and it wasn't enough to stop or slow me down. I'm sure I'll be right as rain by the time of my next workout. I talked to the gym owner today. Apparently, he's socialized with some of the people at the businesses that are on my route of walking to and from the gym. They told him of this "big scary bald dude with a long goatee" they thought was going to his gym. We both got a good laugh out of that.

Middle of my 2nd set, feels like a muscle was starting to pull? Maybe a cramp? Not sure. Yeah, its a pulled muscle. I don't think its bad though... I was in "oh no" mode last night, when it was hurting more and more.... but after I woke up this morning, it doesn't hurt at all.

Pretty good workout today. 275lbs for 9 reps, 8 reps, 8 reps (3 sets) on the flat bench. No torn muscle blues at all! Did some lat pulldowns and called it a workout since I had some errands to run after work.

275lbs for 10 reps, 10 reps and 10 reps (3 sets) on the flat bench today. Fixed. For today's workout. Time to bump my weights up.

275lbs for 1 set of 10 reps, then 295lbs for 2 sets of 7 reps on the flat bench. As crazy as it sounds, my hands feel better after this workout. I'm more inclined to think it would be curls or popeyes that aggravate my hands more. (a push grip vs a pull grip)

I did decent on the weights today. 2nd set was 9 reps of 295lbs on the flat bench. Well I'm spamming this thread. Anyone else "exercising"? XD

I don't know if that counts. But since some time I do various exercises at home for like 15-20 minutes every day, like press-ups, sit-ups and some stuff with two 5kg barbells. It is not really much, but it makes me feel better and I hope it is good for something.

It is not really much, but it makes me feel better and I hope it is good for something. That's more than what I do bro. I hit the gym for like 45 minutes, and then do nothing, like a bug on a rug, for 2-3 days before I workout again. I hope no one feels inadequate or intimidated by my bench numbers. I'm well above average to the point of being a freak. XD This article has a decade long study of 1) gym members (regular lifters) and 2) how much they can 1 rep max. fitnessfromgroundzero.blogspot.com/2013/07/percentage-of-people-who-can-bench.htmlOnly 15% of all people that ever go to the gym will hit 275lbs on the bench press.... for one rep. I'm actually in the top 1% because I have hit 405lbs on the flat bench. Got a video on YouTube of that actually. :B I'm not saying this to toot my horn. I just know how rare it is for someone to move weights like I do. I'm only a numbers guy - for me. For other people, how I see it - lifting is better than not lifting, in all cases. Numbers Shmumbers.

Well I'm spamming this thread. Anyone else "exercising"? XD Absolutely! I workout 2-4x a week. A solid mile on the treadmill, then stationary bike for a bit, then free weights. I got some additional weights a few months ago and I'm happy to say it's almost time to add more! I throw in some yoga and extra stretching every so often. Now that the weather is warming up, I need to get my road bike out and do some cycling too.

I've really fallen behind on this stuff and am paying for it in being EVEN FATTER THAN I WAS BEFORE, anyway, I'm getting out for walks again and building my strength back up there, and I'm planning to get back into sit-ups, push-ups, weight-lifting etc. Hopefully I'll get to that today, but if plans change or whatever, then I'd like to do that in the very near future.

Same. Well, not so much "again" -- I've never been much of a runner. But it was always part of our mandatory gym stuff, etc. And since I'm not in school, that incentive is no longer there. Running is 100% definitely a long-term goal, for when I'm in a bit better shape.

Nope. A prior commitment taking longer than I expected, along with an unexpected "tiredness that I hope is just allergies and doesn't turn into an actual sickness" prevented me. I... am unsure if I will get around to any exercise today or not. I want to either work on music or exercise today. I guess I'll edit this post later with what happened! Edit: No progress on exercise or music unfortunately, but I got A TON of stuff done on UA today!

I throw in some yoga and extra stretching every so often. I need to do better at this - I tend to only put time into stretching AFTER I lift. I've had some people cringe at me for putting 295lbs on the rack and just getting to it. I feel a tad on the rather-achy side sitting up after that first set, but I've got some stretches I do that work that ouch out in seconds though. Man, that's a wish for me, but I don't see it happening. In high school I was working on my abs having a flat stomach, more than I'd lift, but.... after my surgeries, my stomach is WRECKED. I mean, shirt off, my gut is misshapen now because of the surgeries/scar tissue. I mean, wrecked enough people would think I'd been in an accident or something. I kinda have this "what's the point?" feeling about sit-ups, since I think abwork would just make my stomach muscles larger, therefore, make my fugly stomach stick out even more. -_- ...but if I ever had a change of heart, I'd be getting more into jackknifes than crunches or situps, since they work more stomach muscles. Running is 100% definitely a long-term goal, for when I'm in a bit better shape. I'm scared to run honestly. I had a doc state that "running" is what wrecks a lot of people's backs and knees. (the repeated impact over time) The extent of my higher speed cardio is what resembles a really fast shuffle.... cause the last thing I need is impact ache. (with as much as I weigh) my undergrad actually required gym for two semesters and for everyone to be able to swim Swimming is HARD for me. ....cause I sink like a rock. I can swim underwater for a little bit, until it becomes more or less underwater walking-with-arms. ._. ____________________ I did good in the gym today. I got sidetracked and forgot to post this, but last time I went to the gym, I decided to put on 225lbs on the flat bench and just see how many reps possible I could get. I don't think I did too bad.

Yesterday was quite epic. The once a year fair is in town - on the square. My gym I go to is also on the square, and they had a bit of an open house going on. It was workout day for me and well... By the time I finished my first set on the bench, I had a bit of an audience. ...so I put 315lbs on the rack, a spotter on each end of the bar, and got 7 reps unassisted for a 2nd set. YEAH! Very encouraging stuff!!! There were a few young fellers that were there with their parents. They watched me as I continued to work out, while they're parents were touring the gym. :B

I did pretty good on the flat bench today. All 3 sets, combined number of reps was 18. That's the best I've done since putting 315lbs back on the rack.
At the gym where I work out, there's a couple pictures of body builders, signed type things - I don't know who those people are. With the autograph on one, there was a little hand written saying, "Long term consistency is better than short term intensity."
Lot of truth to that... but unfortunately, I adhear to that to a fault, and the fault is head games with myself.
Last time I worked out, I got a few less reps. I was tired, wasn't feeling the best, but still suited up and showed up at the gym.
That's all it takes for an internal battle with myself to start, and it lasts a full day. The gist of the back and forth is essentially this: "Less reps today. I'm losing strength. I'm getting weaker. I'm never gonna get 3 sets of 10 of this again." "Ok, even 1 rep of 315lbs is massive. You're doing great and everyone has bad lift days. Stop beating yourself up and just keep at it."
I wish I could just shut that off. I'm sure its pride or ego or something...

I had a pretty good sitting on the couch session today. I'll start on a workout program, do well for a few months, then go on vacation or something and not be able to get back into the groove. I don't know what the deal is. I feel like I don't have a lot of long-term motivation. Not sure how to get out of this rut. Maybe I need something I can do when I'm on vacation or feeling weak.

I find myself dragging my feet with workouts sometimes - I might push it back a day or two, convincing myself I don't feel up to it, or that I'm achy or whatever... but its always temporary. The worst that happens with me with pushing my workout back a few days is that I'm VERY ready to hit the gym after that. My theory on why some people can't stick with their workouts, is because they're not "getting high from it". I had a buddy that ran about an hour a day - he'd get a runners high. Lifting heavy weights - yeah, there's a high with that too. I feel it on the bench. Just moving around some, getting a burn and a sweat on, and that's it (not pushing yourself to fatigue), your brain silently concludes, "what's the point?" When the brain gets a bump, a rush of good feeling chemical when someone pushes themselves, the brain will also say, "hey, lets get after that again, that was fun." Again, this is my theory. I don't think its a certain amount of weight or a certain distance ran - its what finally procs the endorphins. For me myself, after I'm done lifting, I'm shaking like I have Parkinson's. (muscle fatigue) I can literally remember in the past, having to put peas in mashed potatoes to eat them after a work order, or else they'd just roll off the fork. XD Last 3 workouts, first 2 sets on the flat bench I got 7 reps - 3rd set was 6 reps. I'm getting sooooooooooooo clooooooooooooose to 3 sets of 7. Today at the gym, I ALMOST went for it. BAH! I'll go for it next time.

I'm still hitting the gym regularly, but I'm 2 weeks + since I've hit the bench press. My left shoulder finally gave me a heaping pile of "nope". The flat bench hurts too much to do... And going with a lighter weight isn't scratching my itch. Last time I had a shoulder injury from lifting, was about 2013. I resorted to a Plan B then and it worked well... Went back to it recently, and again, it works great. Granted, my incline is more like an incline-shoulder press hybrid, but it boggles my mind a little bit that the flat bench hurts like hell, but doing this, doesn't hurt whatsoever.

Right now I lift heavy stuff for my job. I would much rather lift heavy things 3x a week in the gym, but at least I'm getting a workout in and getting paid for it.

Starting in October I joined a Krav Maga club. It is not very cheap, but if I wanted to I could go there like four times a week for training (and If I still not had enough it would also be possible to go to kickboxing lessons in addition). I try to go there on two evenings over the week, at least one time. I find it very helpful, plus I just discovered how strangely activation such training sessions are. Yesterday I had terrible headaches and felt tired, tired, tired... all the world around me literally took on a kind of gray colour. And after the training I was the happiest person alive... No headaches, nothing! I love it. I hope I can improve my fitness a bit over time.

Well I've been rather terrible about contributing to this thread. At least, I haven't been terrible with maintaining at the gym. Last few workouts, I went back to bench press. My shoulder doesn't hurt when I put 275lbs on the flat bench, so I'm going to just stick with that. I'm not sure if I'll go higher than that anymore or not. I have nothing to prove, and even 275lbs (more than what I weigh) is pretty darn heavy. Dude that owns the gym I go to, showed me a workout I can do for biceps that will not hurt my hands! I've been doing this for a few weeks and well.... heh.... ran into a bit of a very high class problem. So anyway, all my t-shirt sleeves are getting pretty tight now. Like they're riding up into my armpit because of my biceps. Looks a bit funny, but I tell you what doesn't look funny. Big biceps. LOL Also, they got an ab machine that I've been hitting hard for a few weeks too. My gut will ALWAYS be a mess because of the surgeries and scar tissue, but looking into a mirror. Eh, I look a little bit more "trim" compared to last year, before I started these. :B

Unfortunately, I have been neglecting this thread. Fortunately, I have not been neglecting the gym.
When it opened June 1st, I've been hitting it quite regularly. My last workout a few days ago, Flat bench - 275lbs x10 reps, 295lbs x7 reps, (2 sets) Curls - 90lbs for 7-8 rep (3 sets)
I stepped on a scale for the first time in a while. A bit surprising. I've never weighed so much in my life.... but the gym owner said it looks like I slimmed down, and my wife swooned at my "muscle weight" numbers. I'm still benching more than I weigh, but I don't know... I didn't really think I would actually weigh this much. HAHA!!!
