You guys wanna know what I've been listening to lately (and part of the reason why there haven't been any reviews lately)? It's this band. 少女病 (Shoujo Byou). It's Japanese for "Girl Disease", which is an odd name, but I think it's supposed to tie into their conceptual story.
Anyway, these guys are a symphonic rock band from Japan with some influences from metal. Their songs tell stories (featuring voice actors and singers), but almost all of their songs are in Japanese. I'm fairly sure that their story and/or the band members have some ties to Christianity* as well, which is awesome. I found a translation blog that features a fair amount of English lyrics.
*Edit: I'm not so sure of this anymore. They use a lot of imagery involving crosses, but I have no idea what their view of Christianity is or whether their music really ties to it at all. I've seen a few websites refer to them as a Christian band (including MA), but I don't think that's accurate.
Most of their albums are sold by Japanese shops, and I have no idea if any of them ship to the US because their entire website is in Japanese and Google Translate is awful at Japanese to English. I own five CD's from them, four of which I got from Amazon and one of which I got from eBay. If you like this stuff and want to buy it but can't find it, contact me and I'll try to help.
The band's MA page. (I'm honestly quite surprised that they made it onto the site, considering how strict they are sometimes.)
One quick note about the videos below: the first three feature the album artwork for their 2012 album Sousyou Crossline, but none of those songs are actually from that album. Don't know why the video maker decided to do that, but whatever.
This first song is one of their few that is in English.
