I think its good that I'm a little on the "numb" side regarding others opinions of my music, at least at this point in my life. When it was my GRIM/Akryal era, anytime I would get a compliment of my music, I would be like ...and anytime someone complained about it, it would be like . Like complaints got way more attention, and I would make excuses and combat them. I had about an 8 year gap between projects. A big chunk of that was my drinking spiraling out of control, but another factor was "I'm not going to work hard for weeks on something just for people to hate it.". That attitude did exist. There's always been a balance it seems with my art. There's never "all good", nor "all bad". There's a balance, and the timing is eerie sometimes. Now its like, I get what I would consider a "good opinion" regarding one of my projects. ( Disgyblaeth getting an "essential release" writeup on Bandcamp) I'm happy about it. I let some people know, online and in real life. Likewise, a day later, I get a bad opinion regarding the Orationem Trve Holy Black Metal (Official Music Video)I shared the video link on r/christianmetal and shortly after, I see this. Sure I'm a little annoyed. I'm letting you guys know about it here. I had that "initial gut instinct" to lay out how they're wrong in a reply, but.... I didn't. ...and I won't. Strangely enough, there's also a really little voice in my head that's like "Yeah, they're right. Why the hell am I wasting my time.". I'm glad (in a way) that I'm not on the fence about "a main project". I mean, I'm one "train of thoughts" away from thinking Disgyblaeth needs to be my focus and I just need to cut my losses with Orationem. ....just from the 2 events I mentioned in this post. How screwed up is that? The TL;DR of this giant rambling blurb of consciousness.... criticism is hard. Its hard not to take it personally. Its hard not to base major decisions on it, irregardless of how warrented/unwarranted/professional/unprofessional it is. Likewise, I think it says something about a person's personality to volunteer something like that, all qualifications off the table. ...like, how valid is a criticism when someone says on a video, "This ice skater is terrible, they don't know what they're doing" when they themselves, can't even stand up with ice skates on? On the other hand, if they're a good ice skater, saying something like that, does it in fact make their opinion "more valid" because of their own ability? (excluding their experience on observing ice skating as a whole) I have no idea where else I'm going with this topic so, just gonna stop mid stream. ._.

I don't think you have to know how to do something to be able to evaluate whether or not it's "good". You don't need to know how to ice skate to be able to detect a bobble/slip, or poor form. Not sure how much water the "you haven't done it" critique of criticism actually holds. To me, it's an invalid arguements.
As far as these specific comments go..... Could just be a troll, CBM artists have a giant bullseye drawn on them......Could be a guy that just DOES NOT dig anything "Lo-fi" in production. I'm not a huge fan of that myself. I LOVE Immortal, but I find the first two releases to be borderline unlistenable trash......could be a guy that just genuinely isn't a fan, and thanks to the lack of civility on "the Internet", simply feels he's entitled to shit all over things like he's a goose that got into the Metamucil...the world will never know, because he doesn't actually care enough to actually expound on what's wrong. Which is EXACTLY why YOU shouldn't be worried about it. No ACTUAL interest in you or your stuff other than to knock it.
Personally, I wouldn't shutter ANY of your projects. Just make whatever music is coming out of you at the time, and release it under the appropriate banner.

Not sure how much water the "you haven't done it" critique of criticism actually holds. To me, it's an invalid arguements. Well, mistakes are a given. Even a layman can spot a blatant "oops" in ANYTHING. Could a layman tell the difference between a "mediocre" triple salchow double toe loop and an "excellent" one? That's certainly well within the realm of what's "good" and what isn't, and while a practically applied hands-on experience of figure skating isn't required to "know it", experience on what good figure skating looks like IS, and is certainly valid to the entire context of the opinion. Assuming there are no GLARING performance mistakes in a black metal recording, our tripping on the ice equivalent, I would think a country music musician who's only experience with hard music was "that one screamo stuff my brother played that one time" - would still think even the most well performed, well produced black metal was a jumbled, garbled, horrible mess-noise that only the severely mentally unstable could find even remotely listenable. thanks to the lack of civility on "the Internet", simply feels he's entitled to shit all over things like he's a goose that got into the Metamucil... XD Another good example of John Gabriel's Greater Internet @#$%wad Theory. (normal person + anonymity + audience = Total @#$%wad) Further proven by clicking on his Reddit user name and seeing the same personality unfold throughout a series of music topics, mostly in the post-rock realm from what I looked at. Even with that on the table, it still bothers me. This isn't someone saying "this isn't very good" or "I don't like your music". This is, YOUR VIDEO is the ENTIRE REASON that NO ONE ON THIS PLANET will even pay attention to Christian black metal. You've talked before on your esteem with your own written music Exo. Warranted or not, how would you feel getting THAT dumped in your lap? the world will never know, because he doesn't actually care enough to actually expound on what's wrong. Which is EXACTLY why YOU shouldn't be worried about it. No ACTUAL interest in you or your stuff other than to knock it. Good point. What's rough? The music production is rough? The video production is rough? The lyrics are rough? That dude in the video looks rough? The guitars? The drums? The vocals? The first 15 seconds was rough and he made his comment from an intro? Personally, I wouldn't shutter ANY of your projects. Just make whatever music is coming out of you at the time, and release it under the appropriate banner. Yes, I'm a "train of thoughts" away from throwing all future music in the garbage. I'm also a "train of thoughts" away from drinking again after 10 years away from it.... though I have no intention of following through with either. .........Right now. I had that "initial gut instinct" to lay out how they're wrong in a reply, but.... I didn't. ...and I won't. Sorry, but I'm gonna renege on that. For better or worse...

In complete truth and honesty.....it probably wouldn't bother me too much. I EXPECT to be told it's shit and be hated on. That's sorta why I was so shocked people actually thought I didn't suck. In my mind, I'm "probably not terrible"....but that's it. I'm also to the point with things that the appropriate hashtag would be #NMFLTG. I don't have time or mental capacity to devote to folks that just want to shit on me. I'll either give the the greatest insult of all in return: utter apathy to their words and views.....or I'd delete the comment and move on with life. #rogermurtaughwasright

This is, YOUR VIDEO is the ENTIRE REASON that NO ONE ON THIS PLANET will even pay attention to Christian black metal. I don't know about the specific dude who left that specific comment, but I've noticed in general that people who belong to "unpopular" cliques/groups/etc like to complain about those groups a lot. It's a common complaint that "Christian black metal isn't taken seriously", so then people will more or less look for ANY nitpicky fault in Christian black metal to validate that sentiment and... I don't really know, deflect criticism from themselves, I guess. You'll find the same thing in pretty much any fandom/community/group, people who throw the rest of it under the bus to really drive home the point that they are not part of "that" part of the community that gets criticism. The problem there is twofold, 1) they end up just painting their own community in a worse light by helping to FOCUS on the negative aspects of it, 2) they make the community look like a bunch of ignoramuses who don't understand the complaints being thrown at them. Orationem is a quality project, at the very very least, it's proven to be quality enough that the secular community is genuinely willing to look past its lyrical themes to listen to it. Remember that one guy who said like, "hey your music isn't bad for christian bullshit" or whatever? When that guy (whoever he was) comes along and sees someone else in the community criticizing Orationem, how will that reflect on the scene overall? Not ONLY will the secular crowd see a bunch of badly-played mediocre garbage LAWLZIES which forms the negative stereotypes of Christian black metal, but they'll ALSO see the SAME group of mediocre faggots lawl having a solid, quality project on their hands and not being able to pick up on it because we're too insecure and busy trying to prove ourselves to other people. Like I said I have no idea if the above applies to the guy who wrote that comment, I don't know him, but that's... how it comes across to me. ESPECIALLY since he didn't go into any detail about WHAT was wrong with it. Basically meaningless internet criticism. Boy, I really needed to get this out of my system apparently.

I'm also to the point with things that the appropriate hashtag would be #NMFLTG. The only Google results for this acronym I could find were some horroscope BS and a scrablagram.com blurb. Sorry, I don't understand the reference at all. In complete truth and honesty.....it probably wouldn't bother me too much. I EXPECT to be told it's shit and be hated on. That's sorta why I was so shocked people actually thought I didn't suck. In my mind, I'm "probably not terrible"....but that's it. I've told myself the same thing actually. Many times. ....but from my experience, these circumstances actually coming to fruition bypasses whatever "if then's" I've setup. Much like telling myself, I'm going to be sad when my guinea pig dies because she's old and I'm preparing myself. I'm not going to let it ruin my day/week. ....then my guinea pig dies. ...and then it ruins my week. Your experiences may differ, but I'm just saying... because he doesn't actually care enough to actually expound on what's wrong I fired back, and he responded with a mention of "low-quality", which I'm 90%+ sure is a production reference. If someone doesn't like anything "under-produced", that makes sense. Its not for everyone. I had a period in my life where I needed all my metal spoonfed to me with a sterile presentation or else it was "meh" and "not good", etc. Complete 180 on that view the last few years... which is strange because my hearing has only gotten worse. I would think that I would need BETTER production with WORSE hearing, but that's definitely not true. Bottom line, if he doesn't like it, hates it, thinks its the worse music he's heard his entire life and needs to let the internet know - perfectly fine. That's not what any of this is really about because everyone is entitled to their opinion. I haven't even thought about that. Him stating that Orationem is THE REASON Christian black metal is not taken seriously by anyone is not an opinion. That is a claim, and he's speaking on behalf of everyone who does not take Christian black metal seriously. My response to that/him, he needs to provide substantial evidence, undeniable proof or STFU and stop outright lying by putting words in imaginary people's mouths.

Boy, I really needed to get this out of my system apparently. Me too brother. Like I said I have no idea if the above applies to the guy who wrote that comment, I don't know him, but that's... how it comes across to me. ESPECIALLY since he didn't go into any detail about WHAT was wrong with it. Basically meaningless internet criticism. I'm pretty confident he's a troll. I wrapped him up just in time for another one to show up. My point is made. I told him to substantiate his claim or leave and he said "Goodbye" so... Mission complete.

I wish I had none of those left to give. I'm glad that this thread is here... because I needed to get this off my chest, but I'm not glad is HAS to be here in the first place.
I guess I came upon some blanks I could give away. XD
