I haven't seen Extol of Light and Shade... but I have seen Extol of Metal Horns and Middle Fingers.
Sorry. I won't troll this thread (anymore).

I preordered them. Extol singlehandedly introduced me to metal AND Christianity, so I owe a lot of who I am today to them.

I've seen it twice, and the documentary is really nice. Looking forward to the bonus material on the dvd.

I think you will have a totally different view on them after. they have gone through a lot. both religious and personally.

I remember when Extol was this unheard of band on a Rowe comp. Then I remember when they were THE underground Christian band. I remember when Schaliach's frontman joined Extol and that magic was the Burial album. Then I remember they got commercial and their foot in the door at Century Media. ...then I remember being (disgusted is too strong of a word) embarrassed on their behalf because of the band picture with obscene gestures.
Look, I'm no angel. I've been known to cuss and say vulgar things in jest, but I don't do obscene gestures and I don't cuss at people. More so, I see a huge difference between a picture of someone smiling and flipping off... and the doing that while posing with your Christian band.
I mean, come on guys.

More so, I see a huge difference between a picture of someone smiling and flipping off... and the doing that while posing with your Christian band. I mean, come on guys. While I wasnt aware of that picture of Extol, I do to an extent hold the same stance as you. There are a few Christian bands I have come across over the years that have used cursing in their lyrics, and I choose not to play those songs on Metal Blessing Radio. The only reason I omit only the songs instead of the artist altogether as I have seen discussions on this very topic in the past of how in alot of countries culture the words are not as big a deal as they are over here and apparently are accepted. Personally I feel that regardless we should take care when representing Christ and present ourselves as an example, taking into account how others might see your words/actions. However one could also argue that these are man-made words and are not "curses" so to speak. When it comes down to it though I believe that whether or not these words are wrong is not the real problem. The Word says to obey the laws of man, and while "Dont Curse" is not a law per se, I think its more an unspoken cultural law or whatever, so I think regardless we should try live an example not only of living Godly, but also taking care not to offend our fellow man. Besides I dont think Jesus would be dropping f-bombs if he were walking around our modern day earth. Of course all that being said I recognize that bands are comprised as humans, and this was probably a mistake they made while caught in the moment in their youth. The rest of their career shows fruit, so I think I can let it slide. A few Christian bands I know of that have used cursing in their lyics are Sacrificium, Krig and In Process offhand

On that photo you guys refers to it was former members who was part of Extol in the Blueprint era. Not current / founding members. I think it was the Mantric guys. And it was taken during a nightmare tour Extol had in the US. (see the movie)
