So I'd like to do some field recordings. You can see a variety of examples at acloserlisten.com/category/field-recording-soundscape/ and can choose a project that tickles your fancy. Here are some other examples of recordings of trees and recordings of buildings. I've toyed around with recordings: car with the windows down, house heating system, subway train arriving. If I can get that last one of my phone and onto my computer in a playable file, I'll put it up here -- I actually think it's pretty interesting. I'm still in the idea phase for this potential project. With those ideas is a little research into what folks use to record (e.g., iPhone, fancy mics I don't know about) and to produce/put on a computer (e.g., Audacity, GarageBand). Have any of y'all done field recordings? What programs do you use to produce your metal stuff?

I record things with my phone. Since I can't figure out how to export audio files, I record things as videos, and then just upload them to YouTube as "unlisted videos". This also helps save a bit of space on my computer since these sounds are available on YouTube rather than taking up even more space on my harddrive.
I use Audacity for mixing/production, and sometimes noise generation

Https://landscapearchitecture.bandcamp.com/album/melting-landscapes: super freaking sweet recordings of a glacial area. "Over the past three years, the Chair of Landscape Architecture of Professor Christophe Girot and architecture students of ETH Zurich have been documenting the melting landscapes of the Morteratsch Glacier region, using underwater and self made contact microphones, as well as large- and medium- format analog photography."

So this is interesting, for sure. The noise in the background makes it seem "dark". And the repeating voice clip, ostensibly not related to anything going on around it, but still repeating, makes the clip feel "isolating". Like a broken record, repeating the same clip to itself. Also, I just really like the sound of industrial machinery, so there's that, too. This is really abstract and I'm not sure at all that I'm getting what you want us to get out of it, but I definitely like it anyway.

Hopefully I'll work on this for some time tomorrow. I have collected much over the past six weeks. Now to convert it into a product.
Earlier today I was considering asking for prayer to work on this. Then i thought, no that's stupid because it's not important enough for prayer. And then I thought, what does that mean -- that I can do things without God's help or without the humility to pray about the work that I am doing, which should ultimately be for His glory anyways? Then I thought, I am overthinking this. Then I thought other stuff that I have since forgotten. Also if you feel like it you can pray for me to be focused and intentionally work on this project tomorrow. Cheers.

Copyright question: I recorded a subway station platform that includes a 1904 written classical piece played by someone associated with a 2012 copyright -- should I not upload this to my artist bandcamp? (even as a free track)

If it's in the background, surrounded by other sounds, etc and ESPECIALLY if it's just a portion of the song, it should be protected by fair use, because it's transformative. If you think it's too far in the forefront, if it's the focal point of a certain recording, it might be better to omit it. Fair use is vague, but hopefully this helps

That does help alot nocturnaliridescence. One of the recordings I'm considering falls into the transformative / fair use category, and another falls into the latter.

I submitted ten tracks, each with a bit of reflective writing, to a label the other day -- I hope I have good news to share when they get back to me in a few weeks. In other news, nocturnaliridescence , I was wondering if you would enjoy this recording I made, koute.bandcamp.com/album/symphony-of-man-and-machine -- of course I wouldn't want you to waste your audio time ("audio time" bc the work you do for UA etc requires lots of listening) on something that wasn't interesting to you, so yeah, it's fine if you don't listen much. I was wondering your perspective because you tend to like industrial sounds I think, and I enjoy the recording but I'm thinking I might be more so enjoying the fact the I made the recording rather than enjoying the recording for its own sake ... how wonderful it would be if this verbosity made sense.

I DO enjoy this! A bit more minimalist than the "industrial noises" stuff I tend to like, but I'm certainly not complaining I like having these sounds playing with a bit of relaxing minimalism.

I like the term "field recordings" much better than "ASMR", which isn't quite the accurate descriptor to the YouTube channels I subscribe to that are videos/recordings of "an environment".
