Tonight I listened to "Solace" for the first time in a year (or more) and, crap, can we just talk for a second how incredible this album is? I know subsequent releases weren't as well received, but perhaps it's because they had to live up to "Solace?" I mean, other than the strange artwork, they really caught lightning in a bottle. Do yourself a favor and listen to this Black Metal gem, you'll be glad you did.

For those interested, the band have released a demo/remix version of Solace on their Bandcamp page. It sounds similar but the drums are brought way up in the mix and give the songs a much more muscular feel. I enjoy it immensely. Also, The Kiss, The Hope is available as well.

Yes sir, this is a fantastic release--one of CBM's best. I'll listen to it ASAP, haven't in a while. I was not aware they released a version with better drum sound... I may have to get a hold of that. Thanks for the heads up!

I may have to get a hold of that. The CD version of that compilation was released 6-7 years ago and was limited to 200 copies, just so you know

Oh, I don’t think it can be debated in the slightest that a good portion of why what came after wasn’t as well received is simply that this particular album is at or near the pinnacle in terms of blackmetal OVERALL, much less the output of the Christian scene. It’s THAT good, in my estimation.

I remember listening to the last track on the Solace album quite a bit. Some of the album I didn't really care for - Coat of Arms for example, felt too repetitive for too long to me. Whether I like their music aside, I was REALLY happy that some black metal made its way to a more established hard music label. (Tooth and Nail's Solid State) I didn't see Lengsel play Lengsel songs, but I did see them play. All 3 Lengsel dudes were session musicians for Extol at Cornerstone '99. Got to meet all of them - and they made the Burial tracks sound just like the CD.
