LOL @ McDonald's church. Praise Jesus - that's why I'll eat extremely unhealthy. HAHA!!!
That second video, if that's how church was - I'd actually go.
I literally haven't been to church in YEARS... because every one I go to, it feels like I'm walking into a car dealership. I've walked out of a few that were really focused on the offering plate and 1/3rd of the "sermon" was a sales pitch.
We'll pass the hat once for tithing. 2nd time because we need a new building. 3rd time because of a youth group trip. 4th time because of a family 9000 miles away.
I've been told about 20 times from 20 different people they're church isn't like that. Their church is "different". The only difference I've seen is its a smaller scale, or the preacher is more wacky/zany before he asks for your money.
Don't get me wrong, I regularly - weekly - gather with others "in His name". Most of you probably wouldn't see an AA meeting as a Christ Centered spiritual fortress - but it is. Of the 12 steps, only the first half of the first step mentions alcohol - the rest mention God, spirituality and how to live. ...and having been to a LOT of these meetings, almost all of them are not only God centered, but Christ centered. ...and "living through Him" centered. Trying to "think like Him" centered.
Not only that, but with AA - tradition 7 is we're self support through our own contributions. The money we tithe pays rent, coffee and candy, literature - the rest gets DONATED to food pantries, churches or other meetings. It doesn't line anyone's pockets.
Last but not least, the Alcoholics Anonymous book is heavily based on the Book of James in the Bible.
Sorry to say it, I have no use for the modern day Church. Probably never will.

Yeah i hear you, i too have left churchianity for good and follow Jesus, seeking what he really wants. Just finished reading an awesome book “The Church in the Wilderness: What It Means to Follow Jesus Outside of Organized Religion”, i highly recommend it. Heres a related article Churchianity Today theschoolofchrist.org/articles/churchianity-today.html
