the album listening thread and now playing thread are popular. this thread could be viewed as a spin off. we consume so much music and i do enjoy sharing that quantity in the aforementioned threads. in this thread you can take a moment and reflect on which of the many songs/albums you listened to today stuck out in any way that was meaningful to you, even if it is just a song/album you remember particularly enjoying. Today I discovered the band Grendel, an epic black metal band whose first two albums recount the tale of Beowulf. Sometimes I personally connect with the character of Beowulf, especially regarding his night adversary Grendel and the idea that his war-mindedness brought about good (e.g., protecting his people) as well as his personal downfall (...at least per my recall and understanding of the poems motifs). And the music is really great! The albums I listened to were "Beowulf" and "Dragon's Awakening" -- really enjoyable, talented musicianship/songwriting, in my opinion.

Sabactani - Instincts
Jefferson M is one of the few artists who left Christianity, whose old music doesn't convict me at all. Normally in cases like this, there's something "unpleasant" about the music, but Jefferson's music is an exception. I talk to him now and then, and while we have differences, I can relate to a LOT of the feelings he describes in these Christian projects. The core message of "Instincts" has always made sense to me, denouncing human instinct as flawed, but the song is just so melancholic (as opposed to "angry"), and that's how I feel about this world sometimes. Exhausted. Today was one such day.

Today was this flamenco song because 1) a dear friend sent it to me and 2) i was totally not expecting this sound (as i've never actually heard this genre of music before). Upon my first listen I kept expecting a "beat to drop," as they say, and I am very glad it did not. I may want to look more into this artist -- I've listened to this song a handful of times through.

This song has been blowing me away for about an hour and a half now. Absolutely stunning: his playing and vocals, the lyrics, the background, the current struggles of Turkey and Brazil. Also one of the youtube comments was "The turkish Burzum."

Not necessarily meaningful, but certainly the most interesting thing I listened to over the last few days.
Blackwave? (80s synthwave x blackgaze, or something)

@bartimaeus wow, really like the Abstract Void song, I did hear of them before but not this song. Really beautiful. My song of the day would be Andrey Vinogradov playing the Hurdy Gurdy. I remember, back when I was a kid watching Ducktales in one episode there was a villan playing the bagpipe and people acted like it hurt their ears. Back then, I couldn´t understand it, because it just sounded beautiful to me. And still to this day I LOVE bagpipes and the hurdy because it has this droning sound to it.

Cool story (nonsarcasm), Borndead. The hurdy gurdy is awesome. I have one that, seemingly, an amateur built -- it's more or less unplaybale in terms of the clunkiness and detunedness. That particular song you chose is great. I posted this song in the Now Playing thread -- you may enjoy the drone elements of it as well. Yesterday's song of the day, per say, is below. I found it randomly and it fit my melancholy mood; rather, a mood of a despair about which one can do nothing, not even be still and abide it.

Today it´s this song by the French band Throane, what makes this song special to me is the self-control the musicians have to deny themselfs and the listener off the "resolution/headbang part" of the song for so long, without making the song boring

It's a fun juxtaposition to hate your self/life and love God -- makes for some interesting times crying in the car and laying in the shower, both to this song yesterday Another component of the meaningfulness would be that I began listening to this song say 5 years ago when things were better and have not listened much in the past few years.

_, wow what a song, good that I´m in a different place today, because I can see why one would cry. my song of the day is without a doubt "There then to Thee Thine own I leave, Mold as Thou wilt my passive clay... But let me all Thy stamp receive, But let me all Thy words obey... Serve with a single heart and eye, And to Thy glory live or die..."

Forgive me, this is a departure, but this song hit me in a good place today. The song is about the Great Tribulation (a reality I don't love to think about) but the chorus and bridge are about God's holiness, His set-apartness (a reality I love to think about). It's an interesting juxtaposition...

One of the songs I listened to back in the old days. It fit well with how much depression was in me. Plus it was beautiful -- bringing images to my head of skies clearing after pain; of flying away. Listening to it tonight... It hurts, but 1) it also brings comfort. It reminds me that through the immense shadows in my mind, God is there with me in it. 2) I think this music needs to hurt, to bring a catharsis.

A good cry is very cathartic. This song is different than the one I posted in the "Prayer Request" thread, but it wrecks me every dang time. I think a good lamentation, a justified lamentation, is healing (see Jeremiah/Lamentations).

I get it, I love the way this sounds, strange as it may be. The versatile cello is amazing!

I don't have a "why" on the meaning.... but there is a metric ton of emotion in the music and lyrics.

I listened to this song a lot in the period of a few days of deep depression and suicidality a few years ago; it seems like yesterday.

Found this gem this morning. These guys were the musical entertainment at a huge youth rally I went to in HS. They had more gospel in their little sets than the rest of the speakers had the whole weekend. A couple punk rockers found Jesus and were/are absolutely on fire. I love the lyrics, I love the acoustics and I love the punk rock aesthetic.
