Hi there!
Over the past years I got to enjoy neofolk music more and more. I always liked some tracks from that genre but never cared to look deeper into the whole thing. I was wondering if there are any explicitly christian bands doing that music? Somehow I think this could be a very good mixture. Coming to some of the conventional neofolk bands, I really got problems with their leaning to paganism, fascism etc. I like the ideals of the romantic movement (which are imho very comatible with christianity), but I can't stand when they get twisted into something inhuman.
A neofolk project I very much enjoyed listening to was "Sturmpercht" from Austria. I later learned that their singer found Jesus and became a born-again christian, but that was after "Sturmpercht", so they are regretable no christian band, even though I think they had no inclinations towards any kinds of inhuman ideology either.

I did a project that has some elements you could call "Dark folk", but its probably not exactly what you're looking for. There's probably as many similarities to Sturmpercht as there are differences. If you still have an interest, the lyrics are verbatim from the book of Revelation. (the song names being the designation of the lyrics) Still, I was quite honored for BandCamp to consider this an "essential release" for November 2017. Wow - hardly feels like this has been out 1 year already... Here's one track, but I do have the whole album on YouTube. Vision of God Records has CDs.

You can check out my project "Mašta" What does "Mašta" mean? I guess it's pretty unlikely to find a group that sounds like Sturmpercht at all. Their approach is quite unique, because they focus on legends from the alpine regions and stuff like that. A song about the Wolpertinger for example, which I enjoyed very much, because the whole song sounds in way silly I can enjoy very much. Also taking into account that I am from bavaria, so I of course feel a strong connection to the Wolpertinger My search is more for any kind of christian neofolk. Lyrics that celebrate the mysterious beauty of goods creations, topics like solitude, the eternal, etc.

There was a pretty good christian neofolk/industrial playlist on youtube, but unfortunately most of the videos got deleted. Of the videos remaining, this is the most neofolkish And then there's a band called Bloody Woods. They are from China and the main two composers and vocalists are a couple who are both Christians. The rest of the band I don't think are Christians, but this band should still be listed in every christian neofolk list even if it comes with an asterisk. bloodywoodsmusic.bandcamp.com/album/romanzen

The first couple songs were enjoyable.

A recent discovery of mine in the non christian neofolk sector: League of YouthWhen I first listened to some of the songs this guy put up on the internet ("Reich der Träume", "Im Sturme treu", "Raise your hands and take my arms") i felt like beeing put on high voltage electricity. I can't describe it. A certain flash of emotion: sadness, melancholia, hope, heroism, oneness with everything that ever happend to me... Guess I'll get the record end of this month. Regretable I do not know anything about the guy who does this project. I found out that League of Youth played in my town two years ago, but I do not know from where exactly the band or the project is and nothing about their philosophical background. Some of the lyrics are abiguous and the imagery of the band is so as well. But I like it. Maybe that is exactly what I like. If you check LOY out, I'd be happy if you share your oppinion.
