The following took place on Facebook.
I had an agreement with Cameron "Brother Cameron" Fanger. I get his CD, and in exchange, I draw a band logo for him. (Something I normally charge $5 for, so it's basically an even trade since we live in the same country)
I sent him shipping info on 6 November. I sent a message 25 November because I hadn't received it; he said something about trying to get some cover art made. We agreed he wouldn't bother with art (at least for my copy), and would just send out the CD.
5 DECEMBER I sent another message, this time a little less patient... and today I found out, he blocked me.
And remember, this was over a FREE CD. He didn't even get any money from me, he didn't even get the logo from me, and he's still being this shady???

I've dealt with that more times than I can count, which is why I stopped doing art for trades. I've done numerous band logos where the agreement was merch for logo. If I'm taking my time to do the logo and you get to use it as a main visual for your band it's only right that I'm compensated for my time and ability. Also, you should up your charge. My minium for a logo is $50 and it only goes up from there depending on whats wanted from a band. Example: $50 logo: $100+ logo: Don't sell what you do short man. Charge people for the work you do for them.

I feel like my logos aren't quite at the quality of the samples you provided yet. Getting there, but not quite. [Bottom logo here], [Other example]. Also, I'm just starting out -- that 2nd logo is actually for my own project. Once I have a bit of an actual portfolio going, I might raise my prices. Also, did you actually draw the two examples you gave? They're cool, but if you want to remain anonymous, should you remove those images?

You have the right idea for sure, keep with it and it come along easier and easier and you’ll be able to do crazier and crazier stuff. I guess a huge thing that helped me was networking with artists I loved. A lot of those guys love talking to fellow artists. I worked with Christophe Szpajdel for about a year on logos. I helped him with a few bands and we both really fed off of each other’s ideas. It was an amazingly surreal experience. I was working with The Lord Of The Logos, the guy who’s artwork got my into logo design and he was praising my work and envious of the creative aspects I was contributing to our pieces. So branch out and network, feel free to message me if you ever want ideas or help with a design. I did do both of those logos and considered deleting them but I really don’t care. I made a post on my personal Facebook account yesterday about my religious preferences and the response was asoundingly positive, especially from those in the metal community so at this point it doesn’t really matter. Let me know if I can ever offer you any assistance in design.

Yeah but he didn't just contact me about a logo. He added me to his friends list, liked/commented on various posts I had made etc. He hadn't released a CD at that point in time and had no idea I drew logos.
I'm not saying we were best buddies by any stretch, but it seems odd that at that point, he would just block me instead of saying he wasn't interested.
Then again, you could also be right. Hard to say.

That is strange that he would resort to blocking you instead of just letting you know in a sentence or two that he wasn't interested. I know you said you were less patient in your December 5th message to him, maybe he read something wrong in that? The only thing I can think of, some people are nomads online. Not only to the extent of moving one place to another, but completely or mostly "shutting the door" to areas where they will no longer socialize. (ie: deleting their account, blocking someone, etc.) I can think of a few examples a while ago from this forum. People that took something that someone said the wrong way and ragequit over it.... or just up and leave without saying anything to anyone. Who knows bro.

Speaking of making logos for others - last logo I made for someone was free. (on my own time) I also made the Orationem, Ankou Awaits and The Blackest Light forum logos. If I was going to design logos on a regular basis, I'd be getting some of the premium fonts from Doubletwo Studios. Those 2 logos were made with the same ONE FONT. Insane... in a good way.
