Just curious how music affects your mood and how your mood affects your musical taste. I tend to listen to heavy music when I'm stressed out, and this year I have listened to a lot of heavy music. I have been feeling better lately and the other day I put on a Rottweiler Records comp and couldn't get through it because it was too heavy for me.

This is an interesting topic. I'm not really sure but I feel like it does have a big influence on me. I'll have to give this some more thought and if I can organize the ideas that are bouncing around in my head I might make a more thought-out response.

Heavy, fast music is suitable for pretty much any mood for me. When I'm angry, there's Broken Flesh. When I'm determined and ready to get a bunch of work done, there's stuff like Wintersoul. When I'm depressed, there's Cryptic Rising. I definitely have to be in a certain mood to appreciate a lot of the music I like. Like that Cryptic Rising song I just linked -- that's a real downer if you're not already depressed about something, which currently, I'm not. I really don't feel like listening to Cryptic Rising right now, BUT, there are times when I feel so bogged down by everything, that music actually helps me a lot. So, very unintentionally, music does tend to affect my mood a lot. ......... Although when it comes to my mood affecting my musical taste, what I said above about extreme metal fits pretty much every type of music I like. There's rock music for various moods. There's rap music for various moods. I don't think I really listen to styles according to my moods, as much as I try to find relevant songs within those styles.
