I don't know if this is the right section or not.
It seems CD-Rs just... won't play on certain media players, and as my current one gets older, it seems this is becoming more and more of a problem. We're all part of a very underground scene where pretty much everyone (even labels) has released something on CD-R, so... How do you guys listen to CD-Rs you purchase? Are there brands of CD players that work better than others? Certain years of manufacturing I should be aware of?

This is actually a pretty common problem.... and from what I've read about this online, its basically the quality of the CD-R disc, vs, the quality of the read-laser in the player.
Obviously, more expensive/name brand players and CD-Rs will yield better results on actually working. ...and I totally understand not having control on the CD-Rs someone else chooses to write the music too.
Back when I did CD-Rs for Orationem releases, I went with name brand discs, not generic. I didn't have reports of people telling me it wouldn't play for them, so I'm thinking that played a part in that.
