Any other fans here? To me, this is one of the few bands who truly seem to be able to do no wrong. I just got their latest (Damnatio Memoriae) in the mail yesterday and it is fantastic! Really solid doom/death. While most of their material is gothic doom/death, they also have some absolutely stunning acoustic stuff as well as some really good ambient material. I highly recommend!

Haven't heard this band before. Not exactly my cup of tea. But they have some great guitar melodies. That's for sure.

I Love MSW. Even Though they are not a Christian band I DO play them on my live show, well I did till I had to shut down my live show cause of internet problems. I need to get this new album. Did they release it on vinyl?

I have there first 3 albums which are great, and then became bored with there sound and lost interest in them. I totally loved the Seventh Angel come back sound and wished that had kept going.

Yeah but I don't think Ian wants to keep Seventh Angel going as it was a Christian band and Ian really doesn't want anything to do with Christianity right now. He has become agnostic and I don't think he really wants to take Seventh Angel in that direction.

Second to Maiden... they're my favorite band. I have all of their albums and they're all excellent!

For their ten year anniversary, My Silent Wake is releasing a greatest hits album. You can preorder it here (as I did!). More info on tracklisting and such can be found here, which I copied/pasted for your pleasure and convenience. Having taken great strides last year with the release of their most powerful album to date – Damnatio Memoriae – My Silent Wake decided it was time to take a glance back over their collective shoulders and reflect on their ten years as a band. What better way to celebrate that journey of music, friendships, critical acclaim and never-ending hard work than with a compilation of their finest work? A compilation that includes material from their fourth ever gig, from vinyl only releases, from classic albums, fan favourites and band favourites, all freshly remastered – not to mention a new and exclusive song. An Unbroken Threnody 2005 – 2015 has all of this, along with sleeve notes from Ian Arkley – the band’s constant, creative force – and beautiful artwork from Matt Vickerstaff, known for his work with My Dying Bride, Autopsy, Mayhem and many more.
As a thank you to all those fans who support them by purchasing a copy of An Unbroken Threnody, My Silent Wake have added something special to the album package. Each CD purchased will come with a download code, giving access to nearly two hours of remastered, classic material, making An Unbroken Threnody a truly essential purchase.
For those who have walked this road with My Silent Wake since the beginning, An Unbroken Threnody will be a wonderful trip through treasured memories, for those drawn in by the dark drama of Damnatio Memoriae it will be a gateway to the rich and varied history of this magnificent band. Then there will be many who have yet to uncover the magic of My Silent Wake and An Unbroken Threnody lays out an array of treasures at their feet, an almost overwhelming plethora of riches. And this is no ending, no melancholy goodbye, rather the beginning of the next volume in the story of My Silent Wake. There is so much more to come...but for now, let’s sit awhile and reflect on bleak glories past.
Track Listing:
1 - Sturm 2 – The Last Man 3 – And So It Comes To An End 4 – Cruel Grey Skies 5 - Burning 6 – Journey’s End 7 - Oblivion 8 – Tunnels 9 – The Dying Things We’re Living For 10 – Bleak Endless Winter 11 – Highwire 12 – Shadow Of Sorrow 13 – Mímir’s Well

^I'm listening to this one right now. The bonus material is a LOT: in total there's almost four hours of music! And it's all really excellent stuff. For £8, there isn't many better values than this...

For £8, there isn't many better values than this... I have most of their albums and enjoy them a lot, but I'm wondering whether this album and the bonus material is worth it. Is it mostly just a compilation of tracks from prior albums? This is random, but I'm wondering if "Silver Under Moonlight" might be a reference to The Princess and Curdie by George MacDonald.

There's only one new song and it's an ambient, relatively short one. I'd recommend it really only for new fans or hardcore fans (like me haha). However, much of it is remastered and a bit different than the original releases (the Et Lux Perpetua material is taken from the vinyl release's mix and is quite different, for example).

Thanks much for the info! It sounds like I might be better off getting the albums I'm missing (the redo of Et Lux and Damnatio) rather than getting this compilation.

Sure thing! Yeah, if you're only going to do one or the other, I'd get those two instead of An Unbroken Threnody. I bought it more for collecting's sake.

I really started getting into My Silent Wake after they put out IV Et Lux Perpetua. I was deployed on the USS Truman at the time and had the CD shipped directly to it.
Ever since Damnatio Memoriae was released, however, my respect and appreciation for their music has only grown. I've found that there's literally nothing they've released that I don't like in some fashion or another. They do doom metal right, they do acoustic music right, they do ambient music right...
I definitely got their "greatest hits" album when it came out, and I've listened to those tracks, and the bonus tracks, a couple times now while doing homework or cleaning my apartment.
My Silent Wake is awesome!

I saw that! Funny, I was just listening to that album yesterday. I already have it though so I probably won't be buying the re-release - especially since the three bonus tracks are just different versions of songs already on the album. But for those who didn't get the chance to get the old version, I highly recommend it. It's one of their better albums from recent years. (All are good, but DM is very good!)

I appreciate Ian's message in the A Garland Of Tears album notes.
