Is anyone into this band? Theyre friends of mine but I have never been their biggest fan. Their first EP was pretty good black metal -influenced hardcore a la Sweden's Breach and the likes and I also liked their one sided LP Jemima. The new stuff is more post-rock and later theyve gone more towards doomy stuff and something that I cannot totally put to a box. Anyways, check em if you havent, you might dig it! I have the True Nature Unfolds album, and brought it on a recomendation years ago that it was associated with doom metal. I like it as it's very atmospheric with a doomy heaviness. Features great proper death growls and not even close to those annoying constipated while trying to sound aggro vox so prevalent in metalcore-ish bands. Some of it reminds me of the self titled era of Zao, dont know what style its officially filed under, not really metalcore with a ton of experimental and creative flair. I just dug it out now as i havnt listened in years and Its a very strong atmospheric and powerfull album actually.

Markus, the vocalist, was and is a huge Zao fan and Dan Wayandt alongside with Jeff Walker from Carcass are probably his main inspiration for vocals. It is so cool that he can do that vocal style pretty effortlessly, since I sure havent managed to pull that off myself

I've been a huge fan of Callisto ever since hearing True Nature Unfolds. After listening to Noir, though, I have to say that Noir is my favorite album of theirs. It's really just perfect. Atmosphere, the sound of the guitar, subtle drums and percussion, sparse but important vocal delivery, it's really a perfect album in my eyes (ears?). I've listened to this many times over.
That being said though, I still really enjoy the direction they went in Providence, though the album was a bit lengthy and got campy at times.
Has anyone heard their new album Secret Youth? It's so good! They've kind of stayed with the Providence sound, but the guitars sound a bit dirtier and they're experimenting a bit more with the overall sound. Pure post metal goodness!

The vocals are good. Guitars are good. Song structure is good.
The drumming... is good, but doesn't fit the genre.
