I haven't really done anything with Cephalophore in around 4-5 yrs, but ehh, I kinda felt like putting something together for the fun of it. It's ambient industrial / dark ambient / noise / whatever non-musical term you want to use. www.mediafire.com/listen/8n9n5nx42rh6lb4/01+Cessation.mp3

Whoa dude! Talk about a blast from the past! I know you! We were label-mates on Barren Meadows Recordings and chatted quite regularly on the Blabberboard. I'm Hguols. I hope Mazzie didn't end up ripping you off - cause she did me. Talk to Elan lately?

Oh yeah! I remember that time, when blabberboard died that was pretty much when I dropped out of the online Christian music thing I guess.
Well, let's see, with Elan I posted some cemetery pictures on Facebook several months ago that I put "cephalophore" in the bottom corner, as a kind of watermark, not really referring to recording or anything and he asked if I was going to do any more stuff and I said I was considering it, but I haven't heard anything else after that.
With Mazzie ... well, I didn't get ripped off, but I was and still am kinda confused with what happened there at the end. Everything was going on fairly smoothly, lots of email conversations back and forth, supposedly there were going to be more T shirts done, talking about future albums and then nothing at all for months. Then there was an email saying that there were money issues or time issues or something, I don't remember, but that everything was getting back on track ... but then nothing after that. I did manage to get a few copies of the second Cephalophore album that they put out, but I never saw it listed in any online stores or anything and from what I have heard people who ordered it didn't get it, so I am not sure what was up with that ... plus the last track got left off, heh.
The whole thing with Barren Meadows was so weird, everything was going great and then ... nothing.

You described Barren Meadows perfectly. Going strong, then completely silent.
Yeah, with Mazzie, she said there were money issues and I offered to pay for a professional pressing of Hguols CDs (the sophomore album) that she could sell and we could split the proceeds on. She was happy and agreed, ...but then completely disappeared with the CDs I paid for.
The last couple personal conversations with her, she stated that she felt like she didn't fit in the Christian scene because she was a lesbian. I told her I didn't care about that and I didn't see her differently as a person, but part of me thinks that has something to do with her disappearing...
I wish I could find Elan, but its been years since I've talked to the guy. I'd like to hear what music he's been working on and share what black metal I've created. I can't seem to find him (or you, or anyone) on Fakebook, but I've got threads all over here where I can never get it to work.

Ughh, that sucks about the money . I wonder if the discs were even ever actually made. Hmm, I can see why she would feel weird about that, but at the same time Barren Meadows was kind of like ... the "weird Christian label" anyway, it wasn't like the world was watching it and making sure it and all of it's groups did everything perfectly, according to their standards. I never cared if she was lesbian or straight or whatever, that had no bearing on the label for me. I never knew anything about it at all until she got married though, so it was kind of like "Hmm, one of the heads of Barren Meadows just got married ... to a woman. Oh well". BUT that was also right when the communication ceased and all that, so I was all kinds of confused about it. Did her wife not like the label? Did she not like the groups? Did getting married cause the money issues? Wasn't all of that discussed before hand? I do have a bit of a running joke where I say: "Does gay marriage actually hurt anyone? Well, apparently it killed my record label, so I guess it hurt underground ambient industrial / noise / drone / black metal bands". Just as a joke though, I never cared, I was really happy with the label and all the communication and the excitement to put stuff out, it was fun, being lesbian didn't change that at all. The complete lack of communication did though, at the time I was thinking "What, did I do or say something wrong? I didn't think I did". I'm not really one to say that I get "hurt" by others actions, but even beyond the label she and I had been having conversations about stuff in general and it was all just ... gone. Oh well I guess. Facebook gives me issues all the time, their algorithms or whatever. My wife and I will have the same friends on there and she will ask me if I read something posted by a common friend and I won't have seen it at all, it's annoying. www.facebook.com/cephalophore ... that's mine, though I mostly just post random stuff anymore.

The discs were made. I sent them to her. ...and then she took off with them.
HAHA!!! Yeah, I guess gay marriage did hurt our label.
I searched for Cephalophore on Facebook, and just found a rap group called Cephalophore. LOL

Hmm, that's weird then. Do you think she is selling them, or is she just living somewhere surrounded by stacks of your CDs? Yeah, there is a rap group with that name, a goregrind group with that name and I think there was some kind of prog metal group with the name. That said, "Subduction" came out in 2009, and "Ghosts" came out, in physical form, on a label in 2010 and I am pretty sure that none of these other Pseudo-Cephalophores were in existence back then, or at least a lot of internet searches at the time didn't bring up any of them.

To me, it sounds slightly more noble to stuff those away into storage. ...in comparison to her selling them and pocketing all the money for herself.
Whenever I pick a project name, I always check metal-archives to see if there's 13 other bands with the same name.
...and I still can't find Elan on Facebook. LOL

I'm surprised she didn't just send them back to you if nothing else.
But then sometimes you have instances like Incubus where even though you had the name for years another band can still pop up and get famous enough that there is no way you can practically use the name anymore.
Hmm, I know he's on there, but I haven't seen him say anything in a while.

Good to see you doing more Cephalophore stuff! I like it! I remember Barren Meadows Recordings. I was pretty consistent in making sure all of the label's releases were on Discogs (that's my contribution I guess). I was just as surprised as anyone when it all vanished. I was excited for the direction it was taking with everyone's bands and projects on there. I did approach Mazzie about joining the label, since that was around when Magical Garbage Machinery was starting to become a thing. She turned it down, but there were no hard feelings. I even had a Barren Meadows sticker on my old hard drive! Oh well Oh, and Tom, I'm pretty sure Elan is the same guy who is behind the black metal band Wanderlust. The alias he uses for the band is Der Pestarzt. The name he uses on Facebook is Asgath Uá Niáll. Hope that helps!

Ah-hah! So you are the reason Cephalophore is on there, I was always curious about how I got on there. I figure I can count the number of people that have actually heard Ceph on one hand so it always surprises me when I find it mentioned anywhere (mostly on download sites that I cannot read though).
I remember Magical Garbage Machinery, I quite liked it. I wonder why she turned it down, bleh.
