Anyone have any opinions on this? I actually just learned a lot of information on this today from a few sites I stumbled upon.
This whole thing seems to be freedom of speech vs. illegal activity... ...but for those who aren't aware, Tor is an "anonymity browser", where you can access websites (anonymously) as well as access the "deep web" or "dark web". For those who don't know what those terms are, its the "hidden" internet with no URL where some crazy effed up sites live.
From the information I've come across today, most of these deep web sites are where you can buy illicit drugs. (I'm serious, like buy LSD and Heroin over the internet) The people behind it (obviously anonymous as well) claim that 1) drugs are still illegal today because of a conspiracy and 2) it completely nulls violent crimes regarding drug transactions.
Ironically, #2 has some truth to it if you review the data on it. Then again, computer savvy 14 year olds get free access to the hardest drugs without leaving their house...
Some of the other sites in the deep web have to do with ordering counterfeit money, child pr0n (YIKES!), learning how to hack, access to other black market / illegal goods, snuff (YIKES!), fraud, ordering hits to kill people (YIKES YIKES!), prostitution, whistleblowing (that's cool - I wonder what's there?), etc. etc. etc.
The dishonest and yikes ones are a definite "no". I think any one of us would agree those are 100% wrong.
I actually have mixed feelings about the internet drug market thing. I certainly don't condone using drugs, especially the problem(s) I've had with them in the past... I absolutely don't condone "pushing", or pressuring people to purchase or use. That's just wrong.
...but a "hidden market" that someone can access to purchase substances for consumption sure does sound a heck of a lot safer than hustling and getting shot in the streets. Even though this isn't possible for me since I'm a recovered addict, I do think its possible for people to have "spiritual experiences" with the aid of hallucinogens.
Again, I wouldn't recommend drugs in any form - but sort of like the "handing out condoms in school" gig, people are going to be irresponsible with drugs regardless of how much abstinence is preached to them - having an option that doesn't send them to a violent death does seem somewhat.... noble?
Thoughts? Opinions?
