I'm biased, but this is the best death metal - as far as I'm concerned. It GREATLY influenced the music I create.
...and yes, this is a Christian band.

What's really cool is that I'm seeing a lot of YouTube footage that's really recent of these guys playing these songs. Like the Christian Myrkskog. (No new songs for 20 years but still playing) HAHA!

Any of you guys talk to them? I haven't been on their website since they had the name Detrimental instead. I'd like to send them an email, just to see what they say...

As far as I am concerned this is very likely the best death metal to come out of the Christian scene.

Picked up both demo tapes back in the day. Them, Oblation, Pale Horse, Groms, Discarnted and Morty was mean as at the time. I Remember seeing in Deathhead Disciples zine (i think it was) a photo live of Disencumbrance with this exaggerated GIANT, warlock style guitar with the main body tail almost reaching the floor ... freaking cool as. Just amazing they havnt recorded more since 1995.

I got so happy when I found about the re-release. Now, if only Oblation would take note about this and make a comeback too I'd be way more happy!

As far as I am concerned this is very likely the best death metal to come out of the Christian scene. I still think Mortification - Scrolls of the Megilloth is THE Christian Death Metal record. By all means the Disencumbrance stuff is good.

I'd rank them like this, but what do I know. 1) Disencumbrance - The Betrayal 2) Crimson Thorn - Unearthed (1995 please) 3) Mortification - Scrolls of the Megilloth

Its been years since I've listened to that album. If you think its one of the best in death metal, I need to revisit that album!

Yes I think so. It's more progressive than the others. It is fantastic. Extol was at top of their game on that record

I knew of Disencumbrance but havent actually heard them. I may have to pick up the re-release. As far as extol goes I personally rank them:
Undeceived Extol (New one) Synergy Burial Blueprint Dives
Not sure where I rank Paralysis and Mesmerized.
Undeceived is definitely a death metal classic now. I consider this essential listening for any Christian metalhead

resurrecting this because I agree Disencumbrance is my favorite christian death metal band as well, only broken flesh has come close to topping them. I hope they will release some new music though, it's been some good time since the re-release.

Personally this isn't that far off the same style but this has long been a HUGE favorite of mine. Dirty, blasting, classic death metal. I even got a hoody back when Starve the Flesh was around. They're finally getting something going on a new album after a ton of trials. Still looking forward to it.
