They're only somewhat black metal... but I'll put 'em in this section anyways. Kauan plays a very high quality style of black/doom/folk/post-rock. Each album is quite a bit different than the other. @dc, the intro to your new album conveyed similar emotions for me as the intro to Kauan's album Aava tuulen maa. I think you may dig 'em. Even though the band is from the Ukraine, all the lyrics are in Finnish which I think is cool.
Their first two albums are more black/doom, next two albums are post-rock, and their fifth album a pretty even combination of those styles. You can listen to their latest album in its entirety on youtube. It's a masterpiece: one long song (broken into eight tracks, but shouldn't be listened to individually).

Man, I love this! I'm a huge fan of doom/funeral doom/gothic stuff. Swallow The Sun, October Tide, My Dying Bride, Katatonia (older for doom), Loss, Evoken, Daylight Dies, Draconian, Helevorn – all stuff I jam to regularly. Haven't heard Kauan before, but really like this. I'll have to search out where I can get an album… Thanks for the reference.

Sure thing dude! I'm glad you like. Their albums are a little hard to come by because they're all on smaller record labels, though after a quick internet search, it looks like they're not too bad. I've had to buy their albums from all over the world, but now that they've been out for a little while, I think they're a little more broadly available.

This would be the kind of stuff I'd have going during a long car ride, or let wash over me in the background at home...

I love driving to Kauan. For some reason their album Pirut has become my go-to album to listen to while I drive up the beautiful coast north of Santa Cruz haha.

Got my copy in the mail and cranking now. (I didn't listen to it on Youtube so this is the first time hearing it.) WOW. Kauan has created another masterpiece. It's pretty impressive to see how they just keep growing and maturing with each album - and yet all of their albums are fantastic.

You can get several of their albums from here too kauan.bandcamp.com/musicI heard two of their albums earlier today and they are WAY more Post Rock/Doom than Black Metal but I really like them thanks for introducing me to them. I just wish they sang in english though.

Now that I've had a chance to digest the latest Kauan album... I just love it even more. It's a really spectacular album! I've seen multiple best-of year-end lists with it included - and for good reason.
