I'm definitely my mother's son - that Christmas spirit hits after the Thanksgiving meal. I know my wife and I don't look like we're enjoying black friday shopping... ...but its easy on the pocketbook. I wouldn't be able to get the volume/quality of gifts at a normal price. I personally like having a live tree in my living room because of that awesome pine smell. I came home from work to this, which my wife did before she had to go to work: ...which is awesome. My wife is the best. Of course, (and I don't have a picture for this) I woke up at 5am for work the next morning with the tree down because the oldest/heaviest Tom cat decided to make sweet love to climb the tree. Nothing like anchoring the round 2 decorated tree to the wall to keep the Christmas spirit alive. (and a horse sprayer for the cats when they try to claim the tree) ___________________________________ Anyone started their Christmas stuff yet? Anyone have any special plans? All my shopping is done. Things just need wrapped. My mom and my wife are having a cookie and soup day next week where they make all sorts of Christmas goodies. ...and I'm tagging along to eat those goodies.

Lol damn cats, our tree was knocked over the other day as well but I'm not sure which of the 8 cats did it because it was discovered when I went home for lunch break. We haven't done shopping yet, we don't have the patience for Black Friday but honestly we could have shopped online but vet bills delayed us so now we have to shop not this weekend but NEXT weekend after we get paid again. C'est la vie.
I hate Christmas music. Just wanted to point that out. August Burns Red - Sleddin' Hill is pretty awesome. I'm aware there are a couple extreme metal Christmas albums but haven't acquired them yet.

I hate Christmas music too, but I also like Sleddin' Hill (I heard it for the first time about a week ago, and the blastbeats in Frosty the Snowman filled me with joy).

@crimsonwarrior : I'm actually a pretty big ABR fan (yes *gasp* I like some 'core). I have nearly all their albums except I think the first and last, and even a t-shirt! Kerrick : Yeah, I saw some of those when surfing the web earlier. I may try to pick those up some time next year after my wallet recovers from music and holidays. LOL! I'm especially interested to get a copy of the one that has a VoW Christmas song on it.

The most cats I had at one time was 33. It was when I was growing up on the farm, but they were ALL outside. My dad actually hated cats, but liked having them around because of the grain and mice. I remember it was 12 cats, then 3 mother cats all got knocked up about the same time. They each had 5-6 kittens. Baby kittens will chase you, especially when they miss mom and get treats from people. I have a fond memory of my brother luring them out for some of my parents friends that stopped by. 15-18 kittens running toward you is certainly surprising, and I remember him running and screaming while "the pile" of kittens chased him. Of course he wasn't really scared. He hammed it up like he was mortified though. It was hilarious!!! HAHA!!

On Saturday we made gingerbread houses. Veronika and I made ours complete with the Frankenstein monster on top of it with mobbing villagers burning it down. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

You guys are so cute together. I had to wallow my wife and my cats because that picture made me feel so warm and fuzzy.

Haha, that is a very "warm and fuzzy" picture.
About Christmas music, I'm indifferent to most secular holiday music but the hymns we do at my church have always spoken to me. I really like those. "What Child Is This", "O Come O Come Emmanuel", "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Silent Night"...

I guess it just dawned on me that GRIM - Vespers is essentially a Christmas album. I mean, its black metal music along with Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Vespers".
Those vespers are the choral presentation of the texts used during Eastern (Russian) Orthodox all-night vigils, often sung at the eve of major church festivals.
Like Christmas Eve!

For more 'core Christmas music there is Solid State's compilation "Midnight Clear." It has a couple of ABR tracks and Becoming the Archetype's "O Holy Night." Also, Rottweiler has just made a "best of" compilation of Christmas tracks available on their Bandcamp. It's got some of the same tracks as those other compilations Kerrick mentioned.

Merry [belated] Christmas! How was everyone's Christmas? Mine was really good. I was on vacation in Palm Springs with my parents and girlfriend the weekend before Christmas and then did a bunch of family stuff. We went on some sweet hikes and it was fun to get to introduce my extended family to Veronika. My parents got me new tires for my car which I really needed so that was nice! I also got a ton of beer, spicy food, and some CDs (that I posted about in the latest purchases thread). All in all a good time!
