I know we've talked about these German Nautik Funeral Doomers before, but figured we should just start a thread on 'em. I got The Boats Of The Glen Carrig for Christmas and have been really enjoying it. I haven't had a good opportunity to listen to it properly (loud and without interruption) but I've listened to it three times so far. It's really quite good! It doesn't seem as "catchy" as some of their other stuff but that could just be that I haven't had the opportunity to fully dive [pun intended] into it. I have all four of their albums and there's not a bad song on any of them! Any other fans?

The Giant was hands down their best in my opinion, it had plenty of catchy moments, plenty of heavy moments, and a barrage of feeling. In my opinion, it was too good, therefore making it a hard act to follow. The Boats had some good songs, but the slow passages were boring and drawn out, and most of the heavy moments seemed a bit forced.

Ahab is perhaps my favorite Funeral Doom band of all Time. But if you like them Shape of Despair is a great one as well. I love the Themes of Ahab's being based on Mellville's writing, at least on one of the albums.

After a few listens, I would definitely agree with you that The Giant is overall a better album than Glen Carrig. I don't dislike the new one by any means, but there's not much that really grips me like The Giant does. Something The Giant had that IMO none of their other albums do is the more emotive aspects, as you mentioned. That being said... I'm still not certain which album I'd consider their "best." The Call is awfully good... I love the raw heaviness of it. While they've certainly matured in their sound, there's something pretty classic and timeless about The Call.

Just saw them tonight, the show was killer, such an immense sound (even a bit to loud for my taste). Also bought "The Giant" vinyl(now my collection is complete), a shirt, patch and a beanie(that I forgot or lost somewhere xD )
Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time. The support acts were Cranial(also a great band) and Arkuum(had some cool songs but didn´t really get me)
