I found these songs on MySpace and really want to share them somewhere. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKkUrbFonSRFkW1Qsf7O_8L3eYZ3elQxw The songs are mostly based on traditional hymns. There's something strange about this music imo, almost as if it were actually created for worship in an insane asylum. "Oh the Blood" is slow and pensive - the singer sounds close to crying at points - and there's also a guitar solo in the middle of it. "I'll Fly Away" is faster, and even has black metal screams.* Also on MySpace, for both versions of "I'll Fly Away", the band have pictures of bats for artwork. Make of that what you will. "As the Deer" is just... beautiful. Especially the version with only the backing vocals. They seem to really... speak the language of their audience - whoever their audience would be. Myself, I guess. Definitely not recommended for casual listening, but I would be quite interested to hear if someday, someone "in a dark place" or "at wits end" gets any sort of comfort or reassurance out of these recordings. *The band have Eirene Records added on MySpace, so apparently they were at least slightly aware of the unblack scene.

I'll listen to this later when I have more time. ...just wanted to say I had a random/weird conversation with the guy from Eirene Records back in the day.
I e-mailed him asking if he wanted to release one of my albums (Hguols) ...and he e-mailed back saying "Hey! You're the guy from GRIM!"
...and that's all he said. ...and I didn't reply.

LOL that's quite the interesting conversation. It seems that you'll always be "the guy from GRIM" in our scene, since the album was released in '99 while the scene was still young. I guess it makes sense, but it's still kinda sad, as Orationem is so much better but gets far less attention.

A lot of it has to do with the phenomena of current project vs time passed. Comparing Orationem now to GRIM when it was "now" (still active) feels very similar in terms of "attention".
I sold more CDs with GRIM, but that was a different economy and CDs were THE medium for music. Now, a lot less people have money for music, and music is drifting towards the digital realm and most of it you can watch free on YouTube. (though I don't think having sold 13 Orationem CDs so far this month is a bad start to the year)
I know I mentioned multiple people e-mailing me, asking me to make another GRIM album, and that resulted in "Vespers" - which pretty much flopped in sales. I think the nostalgic idea of GRIM formed this mystique, and THAT mystique was more appealing than the (old or new) music/release itself.
I think if 15+ years passed since I stopped doing Orationem releases, there would be people coming out of the woodwork that reserve a certain passion for it... something I would never see while it was new, here and still active.

I would be quite interested to hear if someday, someone "in a dark place" or "at wits end" gets any sort of comfort or reassurance out of these recordings. Also, it turns out I was pretty much correct about this. "There are people in the world that others don’t want around; they’re not liked for some reason. There’s always someone in the back of the classroom that nobody wants. People treat them like they have leprosy. They don’t want that kid, but God wants that kid. So that became the mission statement: The world didn’t want me, but God wanted me." Leper Interview

Hey, welcome to the site! I'm not sure if these songs were ever "officially" released - I can only find them on Myspace. I could ask Skot, if you want. You can find his other projects here
