The Drowning is a very good doom/death metal band from the UK. They're friends with My Silent Wake and some years ago the two bands put out one of the best split albums I've ever heard. Anyways, they've got a new album that's FINALLY going to be released soon! I am stoked and have been eagerly awaiting it for a long time. Here's the artwork: Here's a song from their most recent album.

I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but I think I'll like them when I do. I see they have a bunch of their older stuff for name your price on Bandcamp.

Right on! All their CDs are worth owning for sure. That split with My Silent Wake is a really really good album and both bands put forth very high quality material on it. I'd try to get that one on CD because the digital version on their Bandcamp only has The Drowning's stuff.

Sounds really good but makes me want to listen to Dalit to be honest. Those dudes got me spoiled with doom/death.

sounds excellent to me, new fan gained. Need more similar sounds as I gravitate towards more death metal.

Sounds really good but makes me want to listen to Dalit to be honest. Those dudes got me spoiled with doom/death. Dalit is mighty good and hard to beat! And DF, I know you prefer music with Christian lyrics. While for me I haven't found anything objectionable in The Drowning's lyrics [they've got a couple f-bombs but that's it], they're not a "Christian band" by any means. sounds excellent to me, new fan gained. Need more similar sounds as I gravitate towards more death metal. Right on! If you like them, I definitely recommend their friends (or "mates" since they're from the UK haha) My Silent Wake. And if you're looking for Christian bands in this vein, check out the thread I started for Christian doom/death metal and such. There are lots of bands in there you may enjoy too!

Pre-orders are up and if you're one of the first 25, you get a free shirt! I've ordered my copy. From Facebook: They do have a song called "Betrayed By God." I'm curious to read the lyrics on it. It's a pretty juvenile sounding, but I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. When I ordered the CD, I inquired about it so we'll see if I get a response. They've got a new singer/lyricist so I don't know what to expect. Their old singer and I emailed back and forth some about lyrics and I didn't get the impression anything was anti-Christian or the like.

Let me know soon as you find out about that one song. I do like The Drowning, and I love when a band has name your price for albums, especially ones I don't have yet. This Death/Doom has become one of my favorites and I listen to alot of it on Spotify, not alot of cash to buy much yet, But I love this style. I have found that really a large majority of bands in this style are just about sadness, dispair sorrow etc. I do come across some that are anti Christian but for the most part many are not. I used to like November's Doom then they came out with this album : www.metal-archives.com/albums/Novembers_Doom/Into_Night%27s_Requiem_Infernal/223776 It seems plain on the first two songs especially to be anti Christian Then I went and looked further into other songs and found that there were SOME hints at this but not as up front as this album. But MOST of what I find doesn't seem bad. Of course those that do I don't listen to anyway so..

^That's interesting about November's Doom because some of their members I thought had ties to some Christian bands (though I could be remembering wrong).
The new album by The Drowning is very good. I was just cranking it yesterday actually. There aren't any bad songs on it. I haven't read through all of the lyrics yet but they seem to mostly be about generic sorrow/anger, etc. Betrayed By God is about the loss of a man's wife - from the man's perspective. I need to re-read them and study them a bit more, but I get the impression that the woman left him for God. Perhaps she became a Christian and the man wasn't so she left and he feels like he was betrayed by God because he was forsaken. If I wasn't a Christian and that happened to me, I'd be pretty pissed too. But from a Christian perspective... I realize just how crucial one's faith is in every way we view the world, interact with others, and the like. I cannot imagine being bonded to and spending the rest of my life with someone with whom I had such a fundamentally opposing worldview and set of beliefs. Otherwise, I noticed in one song there are a couple four-lettered words but whatever. (Something to the effect of a human being an "eating, s**tting, f**king machine...") So for the Christians on here who are careful with lyrics, that's what you can expect. That being said, the lyrics are IMO pretty well written, poetic yet not too cliche, and emotive. I definitely recommend the album (and their entire back-catalog too).
