Have you ever heard a song that was so captivating and amazing that you felt as if you could have basically left your location and been transported somewhere else? Post those here. I put this in The Great Music Mesh to make this open to all genres, but feel free to post any kinds of metal in here too.
The first song that immediately comes to my mind is this:
Yes, it's brutal, technical deathcore at first, but you have to stick with it, and then...wow...

Dude, that Contortionist track is dope. Thanks for sharing.
A few songs that fit the theme for me (though the "somewhere else" to which I am transported is quite other than that prompted by The Contortionist tune): Jonsi & Alex - Stokkseyri
Blamorhea - Truth
Ekki Mukk - Sigur Ros

Also this is what I thought of when I read your post, CW.

As conceited as it sounds, the one release that turns me into a transdimensional space goat is the last Hguols release.

Ooh fun topic! Gosh, there are so many... The first that comes to mind is Les Iris from the appropriately-titled debut album of Alcest: But all of their stuff is pretty other-worldly. The related band Les Discrets is awesome too and the first song I heard of theirs immediately took me away: Kauan's newest two albums ( Pirut and Sorni Nai) as well. Morgion's album Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth was my first foray into doom and it is amazing. Doesn't look like Youtube has it but they do have their other full-length Solinari which is one of the best doom/death albums I've ever heard: And of course Virgin Black's album Requiem - Mezzo Forte, as we've discussed in other threads.

Great topic idea.
Amaseffer's concept album "Slaves For Life" transports you to the book of Exodus:

Virgin Black's Mezzo Forte for sure and Explosions In The Sky's The Earth Is Not A Cold, Dead Place -- absolutely! What a terrific postrock album.

One of the best (if not the best) opening riffs I've ever heard.

And besides the song mentioned above. A lot of German black metal bands can take me to another world. They can do that... better than any other country in the world. Maybe Russia, but they come second I guess.

Some great songs/bands in here, especially love Alcest, Les Discrets & Virgin Black. There are a lot of songs that take me away but these come to mind:
